The great thing about Chaka is she has always been able to sing in all the genres but jazz has always been her first love this what greatness looks and sounds like and the musicians are stellar 🎼🎼🎶🎶❤️❤️
As the intro said GREAT WOMEN OF THE 20th CENTURY, what a stunning and phenomenal showing of what else Chaka can do besides being a tour de force funk/soul vocalist. The basis of Chaka is jazz! She pretty much sings all the songs from her one off jazz ensemble album (Echoes of An Era) with the industry heavyweights of Chick Corea etc. What an arsenal of jazz techniques she employs here! The band is top notch with Chaka being in her vocal prime. Just exquisite! I love her undying love for Joni being shown as early as this and I wish she would hurry up and release that tribute album she’s been working on. I also love the nod to Dionne Warwick with my eternally favorite Bacharach/David composition that is Alfie. Chaka you outdid yourself girl!
Omggg thank you!! Love it!! She was so on here. Her phrasing and that horn tone she uses with her voice were both so good!! I haven’t heard this recording of Carey before. Joni Mitchell is one of my favorite singer songwriters and I know Chaka is one of her biggest fans. It makes me sad that she wasn’t invited to perform at Joni’s Gershwin Award ceremony. I feel like that was a big oversight on the Library of Congress’ behalf. Especially since Chaka regularly performs Gershwin. Shoot, Summertime is one her signature pieces!!
@Kong She also has another set with BET Jazz, that's nice/similar to this as well. Yeah. She killed it with that Etta; Glady's, Billy Ocean thingee, though she was out of sorts physically. She did the damn thing, especially on that crazy riff that wobbled Etta's head.
This performance used to be in pieces by other You tubers (ZanDTV, Chaka JamTV), and I used to religiously listen to the songs cause they were so great!! So kudos to them, and to you, posting the entire performance. Thanks!!!
It amazes me the amount of shows I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this woman perform. It’s so cool that people are posting this stuff. I remember one show she did at the blue note and Natalie Cole was at the table next to us and she called her up to sing Ain’t Nobody. I believe it was the only hit she sang everything else was strictly jazz.❤❤❤❤

If Warner was smart they would have released this in 93
Who's in the band?
The credits roll at the end, if you didn't already get the answer.
