There are things about this song some people don't like. One tutorial seemed to have his doubts as well.
I can appreciate the genius that went into this, but can't say I really like the song. I'm trying to learn it, and it is not easy, especially the verse. It's almost out of Michael's vocal range on this video.

Instead of trying to sing in a higher like he did when he was a young man, and this song came out well over 40 year's ago, he nails it by singing in a lower octave as an older man. That is a true artist!
He only took it down 1/2 step from the original…
He definitely did not sing it in a lower octave, but he should’ve lowered it at least one more half step. This key was at his falsetto limit and he fell out of it a couple times.
Hes actually singing the lower harmony on "beleives" because the other voices do the higher harmony
