i heard someone say that elliot was purposefully trying to represent transmascs who are early in their transition and still in those awkward boyish stages of trying to fit into their masculinity and not really knowing how to dress yet - he can afford to get things better fitted to his body but a lot of trans people cannot and so if he was trying to represent that and celebrate early transition i do think that's really sweet and lovely.
idk, like if that’s what it is i don’t know how i feel about it. Something about that gives me “rich people pretending to be poor” vibes. If you have the money and the means to look a certain way but you intentionally dress like someone who doesn’t…I don’t like the implications of that lol

that would be sweet, but I think it was just because that's what Balenciaga (Elliot was dressed by Balenciaga) has been doing with their suits on the runway lately, I don't think there is any deeper meaning to the fit of the suit. The meaningful part of the look would be the green carnation. If you look up Balenciaga runway mens suit you'll see that most if not all results have that same sort of over-sized fit, and for Elliot it was probably already heavily tailored since he's 5'1.
if anyone gets confirmation that he said this, can you please tag me? I'm surprised that they didn't interview him on the Met Gala carpet, because it would be so interesting to hear his commentary on what they decided to wear.
@@masonmori8669 I agree, from what I've heard that is what balenciaga suits tend to look like (baggy/oversized). Bottlerockk on tiktok pointed out that parts of the suit are not the modern style (the lapel and the single button) this style suit is likely a nod to older styles. That would also fit with the homage to Oscar Wilde as he lived in the late 1800's.

Seeing Ryan's character development is... awesome. I remember i was toxic, watching reaction to trans tiktoks by Kalvin and Ryan and feeling better about myself putting other people down. Glad I am not like that anymore. I remember Kalvin's video making me fucking dysphoric about my eyelashes dude. EYELASHES. I love them now. I love being feminine from time to time.

@@codesofdan9182 My husband has gorgeous eyelashes that make his eyes look like twinkling stars. Every woman we meet compliments him, and he's really started to appreciate something that made him feel self-conscious. It actually makes me sad that men or people who want to present more masculine have been made to feel bad about eyelashes!
i got so dysphoric about little things just because i felt like i HAD to be, in my. transmed kalvin era. i’m so glad i grew out of that mentality!!

Apparently the green carnation Elliott is wearing might be a refrence to Oscar Wilde-- he often asked friends to wear them at his plays. Also for those don't know Oscar Wilde was a queer man during the Victorian era, whose career was ended when he was charged with public indecency for his private relationship with another man.
Unfortunately the flower Elliot is wearing definitely isn’t a carnation. (it looks like a green rose to me, and although I was a gardener identifying flowers isn’t my strong suit). It would be very cool if it is a reference though, which I think it likely would be because green flowers are fairly rare, at least in your average garden. If he was representing Wilde though, I’d love to know the symbolism of him wearing a green rose over a carnation!
@@fern-in-wild6919 The rose is the national flower for the United States, so it's an allusion to Oscar Wilde while swapping out the flower to keep it in theme. It's subtle, but I like it.

Can I just say how much I absolutely LOVE you guys' chemistry?! You guys are so fun to watch.. I feel like, for example, Trisha and Ethan's frenemies was 99.9% enemies, 0.01% friends and IMO, it was obvious that the main reason they were doing it was for views.. most of the time, you could honestly cut the tension with a knife. Watching the two of you is truly like you're just hanging out and you just happen to be filming it. Two years ago, I would have never believed it if somebody told me the two of you were going to have a podcast together. Keep it up, we love to see it 🖤

Brennen and Ryan have honestly opened my mind up to some of the true issues within the trans community that I wouldn’t have realized. As a cis bisexual male, this has become one of the most informative shows that I’ve ever seen in regards to the trans experience. Thank you for opening my mind you two. Keep posting content and will always support this show
If you know any trans people feel free to let them know about this show, this show is most of all about healing for trans people especially those like Brennen and Ryan who were harmed by old cissexist transmedicalist concepts being used to harass and divide.
Since you guys were talking about trans fashion, I was reminded of the manga Boys Run the Riot! It's about a trans boy, Ryo, finding comfort and euphoria in fashion, and it's one of my absolute favorite series. The creator, Keito Gaku, is a trans man, and the translation and localization staff for the English version are also trans! I'd love to hear you two talk about it (or other trans comics) sometime!

I really love hearing Ryan's point of view about people like Marcus. He provided such insight into why someone like Marcus acts the way that he does and humanized him without necessarily giving him a pass for behaving that way. Looking forward to hearing more from Ryan!
The irony of me listening to this before remembering to do my t shot aksnjs , but it's interesting because I'm almost 2 years on T and when not binding,,,,,i do not pass. People see my large chest and immediately assume but always recoil when they hear my voice or see that i have facial hair. Best moment was dressing more feminine the other day and an employee asking me if I needed help and me responding then the guy jolting cause my voice was deeper than his.
I got really lucky in the facial hair and voice area, super deep voice and fast growing dark facial hair (thank you sicilian blood) but really unlucky in my body shape. I'm curvy, still have really wide hips and a large chest, i have an hourglass shape. I'm lucky I'm tall for an afab person making me average for a cis dude. Genetics play a big part in passing and it's exhausting seeing folks say that I'm "not trying hard enough" like pal I've been stabbing myself with an inch long needle for almost 2 years now I'm trying pretty hard, ,,

for those of you, which i think includes brennan and ryan, who might not know anything about the legacies of these major fashion houses, particularly Balenciaga, its known for simple designs that are slightly off kilter in some way, especially when it comes to proportions and tailoring. i think that ryan and Brennan's theory about why elliot Page's suit fit that way might be partly true, but Balenciaga really is just known for this kind of tailoring in their designs.

Suggestion-I noticed you two use the term “pass as male”, I think it’s more accurate to say “pass as cis.” Saying someone passes as male implies that they aren’t already male and they’re trying to look like they are, whereas pass as cis means that they are already male but are presenting in a way that makes them look like a CIS male to cis people. It especially helps for nonbinary people that consider themselves to have passing privilege of a binary gender, but don’t want to say they pass as male/female, because they aren’t trying to look like one or the other

In response to what y’all were saying at 16:30, I think there’s such a massive difference between talking about trans issues all day in a positive manner and actually advocating for the trans community rather than talking about trans people only to make fun of the trans people that look different than you. It’s fine to say “get a hobby” in response to that because it’s so plainly just ego-driven and its only putting negativity into the world. It’s something that I’ve been insecure about, the idea that being trans is my whole personality, but as long as it’s centered around actually caring about trans liberation I think it’s totally fine.

So idk if anyone has said this but Elliott’s suit construction is intentionally vintage to the time period of Oscar wilds life. The lapel, the stiff shoulders, and the construction is intentionally from Oscar wilds time. So it was an homage through and through. The lapel specifically and the long single button look is very very pointed to the period.

As a non binary person, my ultimate Transition goal isn't to pass as androgynous or another gender, it's to LOVE myself. I'm not gonna get top surgery to look non-feminine/female, I'm getting top surgery to I can feel comfortable in my body and love myself. I'm not gonna take a balance of hormones to appear more androgynous, I'm gonna do it to love myself. The trans experience is so much more than pain and passing
I'm glad to have something to look forward to on Fridays :-)

I’m a trans kid with a transphobic family (I’m currently 16) and for a while when I figured out I was trans I was judgmental like Marcus, but now I realize that everyone has their own experience, and we’re all in this together. We should be building each other up not tearing each other down. I don’t pass yet, because of my parents, but I know that once I start my transition, I will pass easily like Marcus. And I’m just glad that I figured out how to be a nice person before I become an adult

I kinda wish that you guys didnt spend a segment of of the show kind of only showcasing the opinions of one guy. I like the conversation of passing, and it needs to be had, that its problematic for trans people to “flex” that they pass and that passing is lucky, but I felt like *he* himself was targeted, because the conversation was less focused on what he had to say and more about him. I think using tiktoks, and specific tiktokers as examples as what not to do for the trans community is a great idea, but I just hope more in the future theyre less focused on the person themself and more on what they are saying. Like, I feel like the conclusion of that segment was that he should get a hobby and that will help his opinion on this, and not a solid conclusion to the argument that trans people shouldnt judge other trans people who dont pass as well. Idk, I just hope the People are less of the subject than their rhetoric is in the future. You guys do want to lift up as many trans people as possible, and not bring them down, which you didn’t do but Im worried is possible in the future though.
Great episode though, brenemies has already helped me feel more comfortable in my identity and I look forward to every friday:)
