    I won this album on a phone-in competition on Beacon Radio back in 1981. Still got it and still like it, but I don't know were the time's gone.

      I was involved in doing some production work with Beacon Radio back in the day. Nice to hear the name again! My friend (programme researcher) and I thought this album was going to lead to something and thought Dave Tregunna was a cracking bass player. We both became massive fans of Lords of the New Church.

    I've known about this album since it's release and it's still one of my favorites. I wish people had believed Stiv and done something about the world back then, we might not be in the "pickle" that we are in now. But then that was what "Punk" was all about. Thanks for posting it.

    This is actually Sham 69's 5th album! Problem was Jimmy Pursey had the rights to the Sham moniker- hence, "The Wanderers". After this the Wanderers called-it-quits. The Lords of the New Church were formed out of the ashes...

  • @willhelm8230
    @willhelm8230 3 роки тому +2

    There's a line in Please Kill Me where Robert Quine dismisses the Ramones and The Clash in really fast order, saying something almost offhand, to paraphrase, "they didn't do anything interesting with playing," or something like that. I like the Ramones and The Clash, but I have no creative talent when it comes to music. So to hear Robert Quine just say that was a bit startling. I don't think he's right, outright. For many of Dead Boys, post-RFTT songs, it's never about decibel alone. RFTT comes right into your room and so do the Dead Boys at their best. But Robert Quine isn't wrong. Many of the chantings of Dead Boys chorus/song titles sound like Frat Party interruptions of an established song.
    This album isn't anything less than maybe the best thing all parties involved ever did. It's really, really good. Not all of it works. I don't think Dr. Beter is very good. That is followed by LIttle Bit Of Frightening, which is so good it's a bit hard to believe.
    This is just an album I want to leave after starting off about it, because it's really one worth exploring & discovering on your own. All kinds of synth silliness is awaiting you, rapid drumming against slow guitar licks, and of course Stiv, always Stiv. Bless this record. And if you don't like this album I'll (_insert_awkward_threat_here_).

    This could be the most underrated album of all time. There are SO MANY lines throughout that can be applied to the state Amerussia and the Trump administration has got us in. Personally, I think the vocals have too much effect on them. Stiv is more articulate on most everything else he's done. So be sure to look up the lyrics to all these songs. 36 years later and The Wanderers nail it. This record has crystal BALLS!
