On a Friday morning married women must wake up early take bath and drape silk saree and wear gold jewellery.
One must observe fast till the Valakshmi pooja ends (elderly women or women having medical conditions can have fruits and milk).
During the festival of Varalakshmi Vratham, it is customary to wear green clothing and decorate the puja room with green flowers and other objects.
Priest Pradeep Chand Pandit says that Goddess Lakshmi is also known as 'Dhanya' because she loves 'dhan ka lava' (a kind of puffed paddy or kheel).
What are the rituals of Varalakshmi festival?
On this occasion, women worship the goddess Lakshmi with utmost devotion, offering fruits, sweets and flowers, usually a kalasham (representing the deity) is decorated with a sari, flowers and gold jewellery, with offerings placed in front. The puja begins with the formal welcome of Lakshmi into one's house.
