Been waiting on this! Spent 8yrs as an MP, then 4 more as a DACP working out of the same office. Was a reservist with multiple mobilizations, but all right to the same CONUS instillation because I was in a Garrison Support Unit. Spent 6mo on the installation SRT till we demob’ed in 2002, never got to go to the SRT school house, but found out I was supposed to be there alongside another guy when I showed up to guard mount and a random team leader that wasn’t even my shift team leader asked WTF I was doing there, why wasn’t I at FLW with SSG ****? Uh, because nobody flipping told me?

Also, while alluded to, the Army & USMC both have a joint school. So much so that primary instructors for the Army (especially pre-9/11) were Marines, where as Jar Heads were taught by the Army. Then there’s the SRT school house. It is ran by the Army yet is usually staffed by civilians, & is an all service school as USMC, Navy, & AF tactical teams all go there for it.
Also out of USAMPS is the USMC ran INWIC. That’s the non lethal weapon instructor course.
The K9 school, ran by the Air Force out at Lackland, and is an all services course. In addition to the all the service LEO organizations, it is also for most of the special ops guys as well.
I’ve been out of the MP game for a minute or two but that info should all be correct or very similar.

Oh, and y’all completely didn’t mention the investigation teams. Just like each branch calls their tactical teams different (SRT, ERT), the local level investigation teams are named different as well. Army MPI, believe the Corps is the same, while navy and chair Force have oddball names for it.
Anyway, MPI is the local detective agency. They do what amounts to misdemeanor and minor felonies, then augment the CID guys whenever needed.
And while you’ve covered CID and NCIS in the past, there’s also a joint CID/MP task force called the Drug Suppression Team. It’s made up of line MP’s and CID agents.

The entire reason I chose not to go AF back in the day was because they had split the LEO’s into two sections and you were not guaranteed which one you would be. Security Police & Security Forces. Police did the patrols primarily & forces were flight lines and combat units. This was circa ‘99-00. Post 9/11 my reserve unit was mobilized and I had joined the SRT. Since we had an airfield on base we traveled the 60miles to the nearby AF base to learn from them about retaking an aircraft. I served as an MP in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army for 12 years, with several combat deployments to Iraq. After getting out, I transitioned to civilian Law Enforcement, where I've been for the last 16 years. In my opinion, the Military Police MOS is one of the best to have in the military. I often joke that MP really stands for Multi-Purpose, due to all the various functions MP's perform. While in Iraq, my MP unit actually saw more combat than the infantry units due to our unique mission. That being said, the only reason we did was due to how modern warfare is conducted in an urban environment. Meaning, there are no phase lines or rear areas in said environment, the second you leave the wire, you are surrounded.
I highly recommend the MP MOS to anyone interested in joining the military. The Marine Corps will always be important to me, but the Army will offer more opportunities within the MP field. As a matter of fact, the only reason I got the MP MOS in the Marine Corps is because of my fathers advice, who was an Army MP for 25 years. The Marine recruiters tried to trick me to join "Security Forces" because "they are basically like MP's." My dad said to tell my recruiter the following: If you can't give me the MP MOS, then I'm sure the Army will be more than happy to take me. I was out of there in 2 weeks with a guaranteed MP MOS.

While it's true that MP's rolled outside the wire in Iraq I seriously doubt you saw more combat than my infantry platoon. While I was with the 101st I ran over 100 air assault missions while attached to the 1st Cav and ran many missions with 5th group; we lost 8 guys in our platoon to IED's, we had a soldier shot in the neck, one shot in the arm, one paralyzed after getting shot in the back, and another got hit with a grenade; we were constantly in fire fights in and around Al-Hawija. The MP's around us conducted police actions while we were air assaulting, kicking in doors and hog-tying haj, doing sniper route clearance missions, and grabbing HVT's. Regardless, MP's are a good group of guys.

I started my career in the MP field as a 95B, the MOS was later changed to 31B. During this time I deployed to Hungary for duty on the US NATO base and ran convoy ops/route security, later went to Croatia and ran convoy ops. After 9/11 I was called to active duty to secure the governors command bunker in Georgia State, I was there with Georgia State Patrol SWAT. I was later activated for duty at Ft Benning to fill in for the 988th MP company normally doing LE work so they could deploy. I was again called up in 2003 to deploy to Iraq to help with Internment ops, convoy escorts, and base defense. 2009 I deployed back to Iraq for convoy escorts, mentoring Iraqi police officers, and training Iraqi Military Police. I was later deployed to GTMO for ops there. I did all of this as a MP with the National Guard.

The one thing I want to add to Army MP, is a few career opportunities is SRT and PSD. I started as a 31B and was fortunate enough to get tasked to K9(before 31k was a thing) and as they transitioned to being their own MOS i was offered either an MOS shift to 31k or a shot at 31D and SRT. I chose 31D and SRT qualification. SRT are the Armies swat and work hand in hand with secret service, FBI, ATF, DEA and a few other federal agencies.

    • @FighteroftheNightman

31D is a CID Special Agent. It requires submitting a packet and being accepted. Its open for anyone E4 and above in any MOS. SRT isn't a different MOS it is an ASI - Additional Skill Identifier similar to how MPI is. Anyone can go to SRT if they have a good PT and weapons score and there's an opening. The school is hard ad though. SRT did not work with any federal agencies. They were literally just the swat team for their post.
31D's do not go to SRT school. We went to hostage negotiation, psd (bc we do psd for secdef and a few other pentagon folks at the protective services battalion and its always our 2nd assignment after school)

  • @DavidJarvis

In the USCG, you can do some of this without going to ME school. Since it's a small service, you get a chance to wear many hats. If you are deployed on a cutter, you can get an opportunity to get trained to be a boarding team member - even as an E-4. While I was afloat, we had tons of boarding operations that included safety checks of pleasure boats, to Homeland Security boardings of container ships. While not a tactical team, it still gives a great experience.

@adamcuneo7189 you're very welcome. I had both AFSC's , law enforcement and security specialist over the years and can tell you that from experience. The security specialist job entails protecting millions of dollars of USAF priority resources such as air craft and sometimes even nukes so you need battle rifles moreso than handguns. The LE troops were basically like your city police on base. Yeah, wearing all that gear can certainly be a challenge to ones mobility trying to get in and out of a police vehicle. The ME rating in in SoCarolina at the FLETC, the same as Boarding Officer School. The USCG does however have an actual police department that works very similar to traditional military police. There are only a few USCG Police areas, which are mostly in training centers in other bases in the US. There are some different billets for SF/SP in the Air Force. At Joint Base Andrews, there were 43 SP's who flew with the Special Air Missions of the 89th. 5-6 of them were permanently assigned to the AF-1 crew and 4-5 more to the AF-2 crew. The rest flew SAM missions and augmented AF-1/2. Then you have what I think were called the Ravens, back then at least, the SPs who flew with the 747 platform that would have a mission of their own. Only thing I wish you had added was the SRF alpha class but I get why you didn't since it is an additional school and ultimately just a qualification. Amazing video though!

I served at Fairchild AFB with the 92d Security Police Squadron. I served on the weapons security side of our career field. We secured B-52 bombers and KC-135 Tankers on 15 minute ground alert. We were trained to protect the base and restricted areas containing special weapons. Our primary weapon was the M-16A1 rifle and 38 revolvers as a side arm. We also carried the M-203 grenade launcher and the M-60 machine gun. We never had a successful penetration to any of our assets or restricted areas. We were tested every so often with written tests, practical exercises and oral questions for our specific assignment. We also assisted the Secret Service when the President came to our base. Each of us possessed a secret clearance as a part of our job.

I was 95 Bravo, Military Police a long time ago. Are you sure about the 20 weeks of training time today? When I went through, it was only 16. We did our basic and AIT in one location - at the time, Ft. McCullen, AL. They trained both Army and Marine MP's here. Which means we had both Army and Marine course instructors during the MP training phase. Marines of course did their basic first and then joined in 8 weeks MP training. When I went through Army MP school (95B at the time) it was 8 weeks basic, then 8 weeks MP school. Our 9th week was dedicated entirely to learning the Beretta 9MM and man-oh-man did we run through some GREAT shooting courses. Thanks for posting, love your guys videos! Straight info and no BS.

Army MPs now go to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for a 20 week OSUT. 10 weeks basic and 10 weeks AIT. Also, we now get to utilize the M-17 (Sig Sauer P320 Full-size) and the MP Investigators and CID agents use the M-18. The Marines have they’re own school house for their training but utilize our Mock Village for Law Enforcement Exercises.

So pretty much 9 in total, altough really only 2 of the Army ones and 1 navy one have a environment close to the US ones, so in the end its only a choice between 3 forces and all those 3 are extremely elite, their standards probably exceed the green berets of the US as they‘re closer to the Seals with their training focussing on pretry much everything there is, so it is quite insane to try and last year 1 guy died in the selection process.

I was a 95B Army M.P. 52 years ago. It was great duty. One thing that was different back then is that the Marines did not have their own M.P. training facilities so they joined us at Fort Gordon Georgia where the M.P. academy was located.I as stationed in Germany. At the time the wall separating west from east Germany was still a big deal. Tensions were very high pretty much during my whole deployment.

The difference is like street officers and detectives. Some of the NCIS/CID/AFOSI investigators receive their training at Marine Base Quantico where agencies like the Secret Service, NBS, FBI, and DSS get training.
There’s also FLETC, where Border Patrol, ICE, Air Marshals, some military units and some local civilian law enforcement agencies get training too.
The U.S. government also trains “selected” foreign agencies at times.
