The struggle over the ongoing influence of TikTok has recently intensified, following the decision of US lawmakers to take steps to ban the popular Chinese app. There is mounting evidence that TikTok causes significant harm, particularly among young people, who increasingly get their news from the platform. Barak Hershkovitz, a former executive at TikTok Israel, and Refaella Goichman, a social media reporter for Haaretz and The Marker, delve into the workings of the world’s biggest influence machine in the new episode of “Fakeland.” They explore the damage TikTok has caused to Israel and to the Jews, as well as the algorithm that drives the division and animosity in the world. Additionally, they discuss how Israel deals with the danger.
