Another great reaction and breakdown. Glad you're taking the time to just enjoy the Maids, the comments and stops are welcome, but seeing you enjoy the music is truly the added bonus. Kanami was lead singing, versus her normal "backing singing" she does in most songs. Always what's best for the song, in a band which lets everyone shine. Egos don't get in the way of greatness. Keep rocking with the Maids. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
Just to let you know, MISA, the bassist, started out in the Tokyo School of Music as a sound engineering student. She later realized after she picked up the bass and decided she wanted to perform before and audience rather than behind the scenes. Band-Maid has some of the best sound engineers in the business, but they are very involved with the sound during their recordings and live concerts. Their sound checks are never perfunctory. They are all involved. Also, Kanami after she composes a song immediately sends it to MISA for her input into the music. MISA composes her bass lines on a piano and then translate them to bass. Kanami can then program Akane's drumbeats into the song, again with Akane's input or suggestions to make the beat and the song better. I honestly feel their sound comes from a lot more experience, technical expertise, and talent that we sometimes give them credit for.
Great reaction. A lot of good thoughts and insights. Yes, Kanami's guitar does the singing. As far as the song's origin, Saiki (the vocalist) apparently pushed for a killer instrumental and she insisted it be the first song on their 8 song Unleash EP. They will sometimes open with this song at festivals to establish their musician credibility to a new audience
i have seen them do this song many times live ,and I can assure you they don't miss a note sounds just like the studio version. This track is usually played in the middle of the show to give Saiki a break. But if you watch the Lollapalooza 2023 show they opened with it.
Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re writing and recording for their new album! The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE! Thx, Chaos!
You should check out "Gion-cho" by BAND-MAIKO. It is the same 5 girls as BAND-MAID but this version of the band layers in traditional Japanese instruments, along with using a Kyoto dialect that maiko would use.
It is absolutely amazing, live. I caught it in Minneapolis last year, standing ten feet in front of Kanami. (And Saiki was indeed off to the side, drinking some water.) They led off with From Now On at Lollapalooza '23.
And if you'd enjoy some more instrumentals, consider checking out the guitar-bass-drum trio Asterism, some time. Rising Moon MV is a nice kick off. Keeping in mind they were then just a shockingly advanced high school band, with the guitarist was still just sixteen, if that. Oh... and you'll find a masterfully played *seven* string bass. With a bass solo, showing off those higher tones that such a bass can produce.
Instrumental excellence from Band-Maid! "Without Holding Back", "Don't Be Long" and Without Holding Back" are a few more Instrumental songs that will blow you away! Not showing off, composed for a purpose! Another interesting song that has both an instrumental version and with vocals is "Giovanni"! All four will blow your mind!
Saiki the lead singer has had throat surgery in the past so the band are very careful with her voice. They play 2+ hour sets so to give Saiki a break around mid-set they do three things. 1. Play an instrumental, 2. Miku (rhythm guitar) takes lead vocals for a song or two (she usually has one track per album where she is lead vocalist) and 3. Miku will do her legendary and hilarious "Magic Time" MC set. Then Saiki comes back on to finish the set. Even though Saiki no longer needs a break nowadays, it's become more of a tradition. So yeah, they have a number of really cool instrumental tracks. Check out the live MV of "Onset" for another instrumental banger!
Great Reaction please continue! Band-Maid has many great instrumentals! React to “Play” next - it was written as just as instrumental but Saiki loved it so much she wanted to be part of fun! So Miku added lyrics. 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO,
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Do you know there was a special concert by Band-Maid & The Warning on June 12 in Tokyo? I went to see it. What a bliss! It looked to me Paulina and Akane literally and happily competed to see which drummer can break their bass drum first in the joint finale 🤣 I witnessed "From Now On" performed live four times with this MV quality in Japan and dropped my jaw four times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their three US tours in 2022 & 2023. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄
Thanks for the reaction and comments. Band-Maid has several instrumentals. You may want to check out Onset (official live video) or Without Holding Back (MV) if you want to react to more instrumentals. Play(Official Live Video) was originally composed as an instrumental but Saiki loved the song and wanted in on the fun so she had Miku write lyrics for it. Until next time…Cheers!
Band Maid use instrumentals and Miku songs to give Saiki breaks. Some of the songs that Miku takes the lead are "Sayonakidori" (there's the regular version and also an acoustic one, both on YT channel), "Time", "ROCK IN ME", "Beauty and the Beast" along with a couple on their 1st album. Something to amuse yourself, check out the instrumental they did for when you're washing your hands during the pandemic, called "Hard Wash"... there's like a 1minute video of Miku demonstrating. ua-cam.com/video/R1TRdeM8SgA/v-deo.htmlsi=USsJLy0npP4ONpHW
Akane was using her Ludwig Black Beauty snare for this. There is a behind the scenes photo of Akane with about 10 snares racked on the shelves behind her in their practice studio and she had her Ludwig and her Gretsch snares on the floor in front of her while she sat on the floor behind them using her IPhone to snap a photo in the mirror they have on one wall to coordinate their live shows. From what I've read she has 2 Black Beauty's and the Gretsch all of which are made out of brass to give that unique tone. And the Ladies have 4 "Official" instrumentals and instrumental versions of many of their songs. They also have a couple "Unofficial" instrumentals that they have never recorded officially. Just played at a "Serving". The entire Unseen World album was also released as an instrumental with the scorebook for the album. They have also done "White Room" videoswith several instrumentals that are available on special edition BluRays.
That's the list of "true" instrumentals I have (the number at the start is from my own full list of instrumentals, there are 48 in total): 10. BAND-MAID - [CORONAVIRUS] HARD WASH 11. BAND-MAID - [Day of the Maid] Want more! 12. BAND-MAID - [Gekidou Kobe #14] Go Nuts! 14. BAND-MAID - [Different CD1 #02] Don't be long 15. BAND-MAID - [Genshin Impact] Dawn Winery Theme 22. BAND-MAID - [start over #01] onset 23. BAND-MAID - [The Day of Budokan] ENTREE 25. BAND-MAID - [Unleash CD1/1 #1/8] from now on 42. BAND-MAID - [Unseen World instrumentals #13] without holding back
Even without Vocal, they will make sure they give THEIR ALL❤(for Themselves & Fans), of course if Saiki here It Is A PLUS. They have more than 1 INSTRUMENTAL. Their concerts(OKYUJI) normally 2+hours long and 20+ songs So Saiki do need enough break). Thank you 🙏
The lore? Band-Maid has several pure instrumentals(someone will list them I hope) that they have played live and included on recordings. "from now on" is a bit special because it was the first track on their 2022 EP "Unleash" AND they made a music video. (typically during okyujis(concerts) they play an instrumental followed by a Kobato lead song to give the lead vocalist a two-song break)
"To see this song live would be insane" if you have time search out Vladimir Chupin's (Band-Maid Unofficial Chief Archivist) channel and find his Oct 29 2022 fan cam of "from now on". He's recording from Kanami's end so... quite a show! Thanks for the reaction!
Some lesser-known lore is that the world premiere of this track (prior to its release) was the very first track they played live after the covid lockdowns at Download Japan festival in August of 2022.
There was an instrumental track, but Saiki (the lead singer) loved it so much that she asked for lyrics to be written for it. And so we got PLAY, you should check that one out :P
Akane's drums are always perfectly tuned- you can tell which drum she is playing easily. I'm always surprised when I see some live bands, that the drums have no tone to them what so ever. I know that it is a bit of a pain tuning drums, but come on. You got it right- Kanami usually plays the melody line even when Saiki is singing.
As I write to everyone who is reacting to From Now On: Kanami🥰 took the vocals into her own hands on this one. Imo, this is not even their best instrumental. Check out Without Holding Back.
Yeah, you're right, Kanami (lead guitar) is 'singing" in this song. I have seen them play this live. And, they pull it off flawlessly. They put it in half way through the show along with "Onset", another instrumental. To do exactly what you said, give the vocals a rest.
This is how they "introduced" themselves at Aftershock 2022. Wife and I were right there watching. Band-Maid... your favorite bands favorite band.
No, this is not 'just' an instrumental 😉 It's THE instrumental 😎🤘
Until the next one!

Kanami is just something else 🔥❤️💥🤘 Lovin’ that amazing musician.
Yes, seeing it live was insane...!
During MISA’s bass solo listen to Akane’s bass drum with her high hat sort of fuzzing the end of the bass drum tone. That sounds really cool
You should check out "Gion-cho" by BAND-MAIKO. It is the same 5 girls as BAND-MAID but this version of the band layers in traditional Japanese instruments, along with using a Kyoto dialect that maiko would use.
The more you listen, the more you will be rewarded. The Maids put so much, so many layers into each song, it’s like an onion. Or a parfait. 🫏

I love that a band is confident enough in their composition and skills that they can just play music feely, so few bands do it..
Nice you saw that this is a song where Kanami does the singing with her guitar. many miss that.

They've opened a lot of shows with this song, and yes - live it is indeed insane. Insanely awesome.
Great Reaction please continue!

Yes, Band Maid as few insrumentals to allow Saiki to rest her voice during the shows following some health issues. Onset being my farovit, so groovy.
Saiki’s “pee” break

Great reaction and interesting insights and comments.
Everyone is awesome in this song, but Akane is in the driver's seat.
Akane once again beating the drums into submission
They used this to open for Guns N Roses
There was an instrumental track, but Saiki (the lead singer) loved it so much that she asked for lyrics to be written for it. And so we got PLAY, you should check that one out :P

Pork Rinds, beer and Band-Maid how can you go wrong.

Watch ONSET and WITHOUT HOLDING BACK for two more great instrumentals.
Have You Not Listen To Onset Yet???
14x5 Ludwig Black Beauty.
Band-Maid never phones it in or does it half-assed. It's always at least 1.5-assed. Probably 1.75. Usually 2.0. Sometimes 2.75.
They played it many times during the last two tours in the USA. Just in the last concert Kanami said, she can’t play it anymore. It’s too technical.
So you're going to listen to BAND MAID - FROM NOW ON - Right?!
Versitality?
Please react to Band-Maid Don’t let me down and please read the lyrics after you watch the mv
