- laios’ desire to become a monster stems from his want to escape his failure at being a human.
as an autistic person, i heavily connect with laios. im surprised people dont talk about his nightmare. yes, it was a marcille centered episode and shes one of my favorites but laios’ nightmare just hit me hard and i don’t know why. just everyone looking down on you because you’re ‘different’ is just. yeah. i made this as a vent, and i planned to do more but i didn’t feel like it anymore. i’m really tired and i’m sorry. but! this one is dedicated to my fellow autistics. i’m proud of you, stay strong :)
btw toshiro haters here will not be tolerated. if you come into my comments hating on him you will be ignored. toshiro is autistic too and i feel like people just fail to realize that. i relate to him a lot too, perhaps even more than laios but that yapping is for another time

Ngl even tho I jokingly call him crazy, it’s genuinely upsetting to see some ppl in the fandom call him a lunatic, psychopath, or potential cannibal. Being confused with social cues and the fear of not being loved by his friends is such a big part of his character, he’s got morality and a kind (not SAINT, but normal person-level kindness) heart, just because he doesn’t know how to express them properly doesn’t make him any less of a human, idk, the way how ppl compare him to beasts or monsters just eerily similar to how non-socially-gifted ppl are treated in certain situations irl.

It fucking breaks my heart when I see people genuinely refer to him like he’s a psycho, or would fuck monsters. Like a lot of monsters are straight up *wild animals* in Dungeon Meshi, yet still people look at Laios and go “monster fucker”
Same with his interest in eating monsters. How the hell did people draw the conclusion that he is a cannibal?! Laios and people who relate to him all deserve so much better than this.

Many people calling laios autistic and i'm jokingly called him deranged. But its surprising that someone dare to call him psycho. He is just "unique", misunderstood and doesnt understand social cue, but laios at the core is a good boi. I'm glad someone get him.
You are entirely right, but to be fair they were only on the second level and he already proposed eating goblins, who in the illustration of his book straight up wear clothes and all. Wich is hilarious

I relate to Laios and Falin so much, they could never fit in with anyone or any group, like me! I couldn’t ever fit in with anyone. And when I saw Laios and that fight with Shuro, i almost cried. That fight scene described my whole life experience. The way Laios interacts with others and others interact with him, the way he acts is so relatable to me!!!! He’s so me fr!!!!!! And Falin, quiet and ostracised from the people in her school and many other places, like the village she and Laios grew up in. They(especially Laios)have to deal with misunderstandings with other characters all the time, like in real life where autistic people get treated with disrespect and get hated upon just because of a small misunderstanding. They’re amazing autistic rep for us :)

RANT INCOMING:
I love Laois character so much and how he is written and how the creator writes Laois autism! But I HATE how certain people in the Dungeon Meshi fandom dumb down Laois or sexualizes him all the time and say "he only cares about eating monster." Yes, he likes eating monster that is his hyper fixation. BUT him eating monsters is not all of his character. That is one part of his character. The whole reason he went BACK to the dungeon and is eating monster is because he wants to save his sister Falin. Laois also DID not hesitate to go back to the Dungeon and try to get Falin back. Yes he likes eating monsters and is not good at social cues. But that does not mean he is not empathetic Laois cares for other people feelings. He misses social cues but he wants the best for his party and his sister! He also is not dumb or stupid. He misses a lot of social cues yes. BUT he knows a lot of knowledge of monsters he likes eating them but he is also very observant of how monster fight and how they survive as well and that's usually how half the time they are able to eat because Laois uses his knowledge to find a weak point and kill the monsters.
