Thank you for posting this performance. Arthur Woodley who plays Mustafa is my very good friend, a wonderful "basso cantante", who has received great reviews in the new Jazz Opera "The Champion" We met while he was studying voice in Bologna, Italy He sang at my wedding in 1979. I am honored and thrilled to have followed his career and to call him my friend. -- Arturo, ti voglio tanto tanto bene.
The Young boy Juan Diego Flórez was amazing in this Opera with 27 years, bravo, he is Since 20 years the best Rossinitenor our Time and learning His singing in the Philadelphia School of Music, Wie quirlig und stimmlich einwandfrei er sich darstellt, eine Oper, in der schon damals seine Qualitäten präsentieren konnte, der Rossini Tenor par excellance
Excelente versión. El concertante del final del primer acto, muy equilibrado, con su dificultad vocal y escénica. Un placer de la primera a la última nota. Gracias por compartirla.
To all who love this production, please know that on November 20,2020, Arthur Woodley who plays Mustafa passed away from cancer. He was an amazing singer, a wonderful friend, and an extraordinary human being. He had a full life filled with the beautiful music he loved. He made it to the Metropolitan Opera in 2019 fulfilling a lifelong dream. Rest in Peace sweet Prince! We will always have your performances as your legacy! I listen to you every day!
Pensa alla Patria when sung by this mezzo makes the difference betwwen her performance and that one of Marilyn Horne. This rendition needs real deep grave notes and high ones.(indeed) Besides the affection of her character is another need. I am sorry but Marilyn Horne has left a standard for those who dare to produce an original version of L'Italiana in Algeri From Santiago of Chile June 2015
Luis Montecinos I'm not an expert, I have no musical education, so I'm writing only about my impressions. Stating that Marylin Horne "left a standard" of rending "Pensa alla patria" seems to me rather subjective. Horne's lowest notes sound very throaty, her timbre at quaite a lot of times is simply ugly, though her interpretation of the aria is undoubtedly (at Met in 1986) impressive and her technic is brilliant. But if you want to hear "real deep grave notes" sung in this aria listen to Ewa Podleś (real alto) at her debut at Carnegie Hall in 1998. Her lowest notes are clear and natural, her voice is like velvet throughout the whole aria and her tops and technic are impeccable. Why wouldn't this be a "standard"? "Pensa alla patria" has been sung successfully by various shades of mezzosoprano (sevral versions available on YT). Stephanie Blythe has a beatiful, ringing, warm voice, she sings easily and very enjoyably. If she only were a bit slimmer...
Horne was one of the greatest of her generation, even though I agree with Songelosodelzefiro her low notes were a little bit throaty, about singers in career, i think Blithe's one of the best and a REAL mezzo, almost an alto, but i find her not really in the part, her rendition being not really convincing and her coloratura a little sloppy! very very good voice though
This is my favourite production 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.....

Esta excelente opera la he disfrutado tanto en Viena y en Santiago de Chile. Y esta presentación es muy grata al igual que la de Marilyn Horne.

Songelosodelzefiro There is also a very noble rendition from Teresa Berganza! I like it.
