Wow, I must say I love Florez in this role! 🎉
Many thanks to everyone for a magnificent performance!!!
This Is priceless!!!
Thank you for a magnificent performance!!!
Finally, a full opera featuring Juan Diego Flórez.
JDF had the greatest high notes of any tenor in recorded musical history!!

What a pair!!! Blythe and Flores. Who'd have thought? :-)
Florez Bravissimo!!!! Tutto Benissimo!!!!
To all who love this production, please know that on November 20,2020, Arthur Woodley who plays Mustafa passed away from cancer. He was an amazing singer, a wonderful friend, and an extraordinary human being. He had a full life filled with the beautiful music he loved. He made it to the Metropolitan Opera in 2019 fulfilling a lifelong dream. Rest in Peace sweet Prince! We will always have your performances as your legacy! I listen to you every day!
🙏🙏🙏
So sad to hear this, this one the only performance I’d look for to watch this opera because it was so fun.

Excelente versión. El concertante del final del primer acto, muy equilibrado, con su dificultad vocal y escénica. Un placer de la primera a la última nota. Gracias por compartirla.

A young Juan Diego Flórez!! Beginning his brilliant career!!!!
This Woodley guy is fantastic
In fact, all the voices are terrific.
The pirates should sing "A nice FAT bon bon for Mastafa"...
Bizarre. Cruel. And childish.

This was superb, thanks!
Blythe has an extraordinary voice and the role is perfect for her temperamentally. Just the right comic tone without being caricature. However the non-patter coloratura really gives her trouble here, which is odd since I’ve heard her sing perfectly find coloratura in other roles. Maybe Rossini isn’t her thing
And six years later in Seattle she was magnificent including all the patter. This is at the very beginning of her professional career. Stephanie's is one of the great voices of our generation. And Arthur Woodley magnificent. JDF brilliant in his debut. Great show.
The Young boy Juan Diego Flórez was amazing in this Opera with 27 years, bravo, he is Since 20 years the best Rossinitenor our Time and learning His singing in the Philadelphia School of Music, Wie quirlig und stimmlich einwandfrei er sich darstellt, eine Oper, in der schon damals seine Qualitäten präsentieren konnte, der Rossini Tenor par excellance

Bravi JD Florez and Arthur Woodley - magnificent voices with awesome stage presence. Stephanie Blythe is extremely listenable, too. If somehow she were able to shed some pounds she would be a striking beauty.... but I realize that this can be very difficult for some people.
Not meaning to be unkind, but has Stephanie eaten Juan Diego's share of the food? Seriously though, JD is fantastic in this, and so is the man singing Mustapha.
His name is Arthur Woodley and is a marvelous Bass-Baritone. See him in the Champion - a new jazz opera
It is unkind. She's brilliant.
@@nancysikes Just not very convincing as a beautiful young Italian girl, & brilliant? Not in my opinion, but I think she's home grown, which makes a big difference to her audience. American audiences are very partisan. European audiences are accustomed to a variety of nationalities, so they don't get hysterical when it's one of their own. You may think I was unkind, but you surely cannot deny the truth of my comment.
@@ifmusicbethefoodofloveegc986 by your standards Caballe and Sutherland would be booed off the stage. The character resides primarily in the voice. See Caroline Abbate and Roger Parker on this. Those who have truly loved opera over the centuries--as drama and music equally--have been more willing than most to suspend disbelief (the rotund Gilda, the Caucasian Butterfly). Verisimilitude has never been opera's strong suit or even, clearly, its desideratum. Certainly, as in the case of castrati, there are historical moments when the public begins to regard as grotesque that which it once saw as comely. Maybe that's where we are as regards the Caballes and Sutherlands of the stage; maybe Hollywood and Madison Avenue have accomplished their work and only the certifiably gorgeous are now permitted a hold on our attention. But this is the shallowest aesthetic, isn't it? As for Stephanie Blythe's voice, it's effortless and beautiful. Patriotism has nothing to do with it. And, to tell you the truth, I find her very cute in this role.
@@nancysikes As the youngest child of an opera singer & a pianist, I was brought up on a diet of opera, oratorio.& other classical music, being taken regularly to the Royal Opera House, where I saw many of the INTERNATIONAL greats. Outsize sopranos & tenors were not uncommon, though none even close to the girth of Stephanie. Caballe was a fraction of her size & Sutherland was very tall, so her girth was relative to her height. I'm glad you find Stephanie cute, but I doubt whether she has sung at La Scala or Covent Garden. If she has, I've not heard of her. Florez, on the other hand, is internationally renowned & is fortunate enough to be slim & handsome. Whether you regard it as shallow or not, it is singers like him & his female leading ladies (Damrau, DiDonato, Dessay, Peretyatka etc) who can draw in young audiences. Ladies & gentlemen of ample proportions are objects of ridicule - Pavorotti wiping his sweaty face with a hankie, for example. Wonderful voice to listen to, but to watch? NO. I prefer to just listen & use my imagination.
Arthur Woodley is a wonderful Mustafa, his amazing lyric bass singing gives his character pathos and depth. I have the honor of calling him my friend for the last 40 years having met him in Bologna where he was studying voice and I was studying for my Master's Degree in Italian. Bravo, bravissimo, per verita'!!!
I always applaud when Juan Diego Florez comes back to take his bow.
I am such a huge fan of Juan Diego Florez. It is amazing that he made his opera debut. His voice is so incredible.
Katie Herring hallo, yes I agree he startet in Philadelphia for the third Opera i believe and than he startend His Great carriere and His Voice until now is amazing, Last year he sung in my hometown Cologne a Open Air concert, just wonderful and he is every a charming man
JD was announced "Our" tenor, because he had studied ar Curties Institut Philadelphia and they were proud of him
This is such a fantastic performance! BRAVI TUTTI.
Thank you for posting this performance. Arthur Woodley who plays Mustafa is my very good friend, a wonderful "basso cantante", who has received great reviews in the new Jazz Opera "The Champion" We met while he was studying voice in Bologna, Italy He sang at my wedding in 1979. I am honored and thrilled to have followed his career and to call him my friend. -- Arturo, ti voglio tanto tanto bene.
Audience has no clue on when to place applause
CoeliLux hahahaha ...don't blame the cowboys ...the y are in process of learning
who sings this version please ?? (not the dq singing here)
The name of the singer is Candy Race.
For the Young Tenor JDF it was a Great Debuet and a very good Performance Bravo Juan Diego
Dieter Florian I agree. Juan Diego Florez's voice is absolutely fantastic. I have heard his rendition of O Holy Night and I absolutely loved it.
I believe it was His Debuet in America, His Debuet was in Pesaro/Italy with 23 years old boy
Dieter Florian Right. And he replaced none other than Bruce Ford!
Horne was one of the greatest of her generation, even though I agree with Songelosodelzefiro her low notes were a little bit throaty, about singers in career, i think Blithe's one of the best and a REAL mezzo, almost an alto, but i find her not really in the part, her rendition being not really convincing and her coloratura a little sloppy! very very good voice though
der FÄCHER mal wieder WICHTIGER als das Playback zu kennen .... die Hauptsache Kaugummi in den Mund und ein bisschen kauen...
oh STEPHANIE <3 so so so!!!
