It might be regional, but I don’t think Brooks is concerned about needing to compete on price with any of those similar shoes you held up. Where I live, if you go to a 5k/10k and look around you’ll see what feels like 50% of the people are wearing Brooks. On women it seems closer to 75% Brooks. If you work in a warehouse setting, it looks like Brooks is winning there too. Nike, Adidas and New Balance might be winning in the world of “Atheleisure”, but at least where I live, Brooks is winning anywhere non elite runners gather. For people in the know watching UA-cam videos, at $150 they are high compared to those other shoes. In a big box sports store like Dick’s Sporting Goods, they are going to be sitting next to $180 Peg Turbos. Those other shoes in your video won’t even be in the store. So to the everyday person they won’t seem $20-25 too high, they will appear $30 cheaper.
Let's all take a second and consider how remarkable it is that Ethan is totally honest with his reviews. Most internet reviews are now bought and paid for cash grabs and yet despite that, Ethan's held firm with his convictions and hasn't sold out. Good work Ginger Runner. Good work.
Interesting review. Thanks. It would be good to have a durability update at around the 200 miles mark. These shoes are on the expensive side and it would be encouraging if they remain in decent condition at 200 miles.
I have a strained relationship with Brooks, much like you do. Every shoe that they made that I loved they managed to screw up in the next iteration or two. My son loves/trains in the Launch and my wife enjoys her Ghost, but after getting into running with the Ghost and transitioning to the original Pure Grit years ago, and seeing them ruined I've moved on (thanks Topo and Altra). I don't see myself going back and the price is disappointing. Hopefully they figure out the features, benefits, and pricing sooner or later.
Always viewed Brooks as making comfortable recovery shoes/shoes to spend all day in, but considered them too heavy for real running efforts. Whether that’s fair or not, don’t know. But this is interesting, thanks for the review.
@@MatthewVlossak I personally got it true to size (size 8) and it worked for me perfectly, but everyone's feet is different especially regarding their feet width.
I love these! I mainly used them for track workouts (I clocked A 7:15 MILE 🤯 during a descending ladder workout), but I switched to using them for my short to mid-distance runs. I feel like I’m flying when I’m wearing them.
As a runner who started late but “ran happy” in Brooks for years (Pure line, then Launch 6) I can say that one model that has gotten better lately rather than worse is the Ravel 3. It’s like a better Launch, which I discovered when Launch 7 disappointed me. It’s not my favored shoe in my serious running rotation but it’s very comfortable and a very light, nicely cushioned shoe for various workouts and crossing over into causal wear. Good looking too. I BQd on my first marathon last summer in Launch 6 but am now loving and leaning toward Adidas Boston 8 for this April 20. However I’m very intrigued by this Hyperion Tempo and wondering if I can my hands on one in time for Boston consideration. What I loved about Brooks in the past was great fit and no hot spots ever, right out of the box. Martha-- new subscriber 👌🏼
I love the Brooks pureflow, and was excited to see this shoe, but the price point, ouch. doesn't mean I won't try it tho only because Brooks is one of the few brands that really fits my narrow foot.
Considering trying the shoe but worry about the toe box. As a long time Ravenna fan I've struggled with the drastic changes they made to a good thing. Also I share concerns regarding the wear and tear. Hoping they hit it out of the park with this one and don't make major changes. Thanks for a great review Ethan 👍
My brooks experiences have been at each end of the spectrum. Pureflow 6 was awesome for me. Got it for half price in a sale and used it well for 5k pbs through to marathon at ironman. Caldera 3 was a huge let down personally and I’ve not got back...!
I just got my first Brooks running shoes which is the levitate 2, and I’m looking forward to try the new Hyperion Tempo. In my opinion the Levitate 2 it’s a little heavy for the long run.
Good review. I think I might TRY them. I wore out a pair of Ghost 13's and the funny thing about the outsole/midsoles was that on 95+ degree days, it felt like I was sticking to the pavement. the shoes got so mushy. Currently running in the New Balance Tempo's that you recommended as a BUY and for $60 shoes, I got all my moneys worth and then some!
I've used the Brooks Ghost throughout my high school and college running career and I love them. I have tried the Nike Vaporfly Next% 2 but the foam tore after a run so I am looking for something more durable that can get me through training while using the Vaporfly for racing. (Yes I know the Vaporfly's are labeled as "racing shoes" I just wanted to see how they were as trainers and how many miles I could get)
Been having a TON of fun in the Brooks Hyperion Tempo - not to be confused with the carbon-plated Hyperion Elite, which I'm sure we'll see a few of at the Olympic Trials in Atlanta. What do you think of Brooks new speedy trainer?
DNA flash is definitely fun and incredibly fast. Also agree that the laces are kind of lackluster, but everything else is done so well. Enjoying these a lot for interval work and pure speed workouts (300m and lower)
I was lucky enough to have a running store voucher and only had to chip in $30... So I'm "trying" these for sure. Now all I need is a pair of Hoka Evo Speedgoat and my buying frenzy will be done for this quarter 🤪
Hey Ethan. How many miles did these last in the end? I’m finally retiring my Hoka Rincon after 500 miles. Those lasted way much longer than expected lol
Brooks isn’t the only shoe company that starts with a solid running shoe and then with each newer model they destroy it 😩 yes I’m calling you out ASICS!
Found your video while searching for reviews since the Tempo's are on sale. I'm an 8 in running shoes and an 8 in the Ghosts fit perfectly...However...Would you recommend going up 1/2 a size for the Tempo's since they are narrow or stick true to size?
Q: Hi Ethan, you approach a very interesting subject when you talk about the controversy about competitive running. With new shoes with a carbon plate and the marketing behind those products (like the Vaporfly in the feet of Eliud Kipchoge), how can shoes than were considered to be a great distance shoe (like the Saucony Kinvara) survive? Thank you and continue your very unbiased and helpful reviews!
GR! I need some advice on a long run shoe with some cushioning, 250lbs, slow running, forefoot strike! How about doing an episode on what shoes you would choose in each type of run, tempo, easy, long, etc. Currently running in Brooks Pureflow7, great race shoe, but not a great daily run shoe.
A couple years ago I was running in the Pureflow 6. At 215lbs, I really like the Altra Torin 4 Plush. I also use Hoka Clifton 6 and Bondi 6. Based on internet reviews, the new Saucony Triumph is probably worth a try.
Hi! Any advice for runners like myself that haven't really run in many years, but am trying to get back into it? I checked out the new Nike Pegas 37, but as amazingly cushiony as they are, the front/top sits too high on my feet and the heel is a tad low, so those didn't work. I use to wear Brooks Adrenaline 18, but they were a bit too heavy and stiff for me. These new Brooks look great, but are they decent for just an average runner for daily runs maybe 3-5 miles? I need help, there's just too many shoes out there, lol. Thanks! Great channel 😁

Would you go with the Kinvara 11 or the Hyperion or the Brooks Ghost 12? I'm looking for an airy light shoe that feels comfy for Max 13 miles usually 3 to 6 miles a day.
There is a major heel drop range in the shoes you mentioned (4mm, 8mm, 12mm) so if you have a preference for heel drop that may answer your question. I try to stay around 4mm-8mm to help with a midfoot strike and stay off my heels.

Go with Hyperion Tempo or stay with Launch? I know HT is an upgrade in weight, anyone have a fit comparison to Launch? The Launch I'm able to get 400+ miles...
I wore the Launch 6 in a 9, 1/2 size up from my regular shoe size as I do with many running shoe brands (though not Hoka or Adidas). However, the new Launch 7 is huge on me in a 9. They added lot of forefoot volume, I, too, am curious how this will fit. As a speedy shoe I hope it’s a snug fit- in a good way.
Looks a bit like the old Brooks Green Shadow. Another great shoe that they discontinued. Shame as it used some recycled materials and was a great tempo shoe. Seemed like no good reason not to keep producing them or something like it.
William Lunn-Pigula ginger runner seems to complain about durability with every shoe. He said the peg turbos would last ~150 miles, mine have twice that on them and are still in fine shape. Anything he says about durability can be almost totally disregarded.
@@jacobkosmicki3392 This is likely estimated durability based on the first 100 miles or so he puts on the shoe. He also might be a drastically different weight than you as I think he's a larger dude at 6ft and 200lbs or so.
Where's a review of the Altra Escalate 2, bro? Let me edit and add, I think your input would be important for the next full iteration (I know they're listening to ur feedback), as there seems to be some controversy surrounding this shoe.
The DNA flash I felt really good for tempo run, and it is really light. To much rubber in the outsole in my opinion. A bit to squishy for slow running. And yes laces are elastic, I don't really like them as well, why not traditional ones!?! Ciao and thanks for the video!
been shopping around for something in this caliber: lightweight, fun, and race-ready if need be. I don't know about the Hyperion line though... with the direct competition in these types of shoes PLUS the price Brooks is asking for them, it's hard to jump on board.
I ran a quick km on a treadmill (well... around 4/km pace) and at the end my calves were killing me. I don't even want to think what would happen if I used them for a 5k. LOL, not my shoe. P.S. I'm a 21:30 5k runner so that pace is hard for me but not really killing over that distance.
Could be, but Rincons don't last long either - mine are dead after less than 200 miles. The cushioning has totally gone. Having said that I really like them so I'd buy another pair but only use them for tempo runs and races (10k, half marathon) rather than long training runs.
Man, I was a brooks Glycerin guy for a long time, but they kept getting heavier, clunkier, and overall suckier, so I stepped away. Maybe I’ll give these a try. So hesitant after how bad my experience was at the end 😂
After running in carbon plated shoes for a while I wouldnt spend that money on a shoe that banding so easily and not even light. Too much competition in this segment as you mentioned.
Hey man... your best videos are exploring while running with your own music. I’ve watched the reviews, think they may get views or something but come on

Man, I was a brooks Glycerin guy for a long time, but they kept getting heavier, clunkier, and overall suckier, so I stepped away. Maybe I’ll give these a try. So hesitant after how bad my experience was at the end 😂
The lighter Glycerin 18 drops 3/1
First🙂... Good review🤘
$1 a mile. I don't see why anyone would buy this?
After running in carbon plated shoes for a while I wouldnt spend that money on a shoe that banding so easily and not even light. Too much competition in this segment as you mentioned.

Looks whack.
You aint getting 150 plus miles out of these , not a chance
Stunl3y they’re a trainer
@@jacobkosmicki3392 whats your point ? , yes they are a training shoe and a training shoe that you can hardly get 150 miles from at over £100 imo isn't worth considering unless you have an endless supply of money
@@Stunl3y I got 400 out of my first pair of these
