It's almost like 765 creates her own symphony. Every time she pulls through town, she shakes the ground and fills the hearts of many with her beautiful music. There's nothing in the world like a Berk.
I remember these old steamers big time. My dad worked on the NKP for many decades. I worked for the NKP in the roundhouse, as a machinist mate helper, second shift in 1955, the boss was Art Nelson, nice guy. Cleo Yoder, our teacher at BHS also worked on this shift. Nice guy also. Many memories for sure. Dad took me on a trip one time to Conneaut for an over night stay and back to Bellevue. Great views from the caboose in the upper windows.
I have fond memories of living on the west side of Cleveland where the Nickel Plate main line intersected the Lakewood border. I remember the sound of those big Berks pulling fast freights and finishing with the classic cabooses painted red, with the white stripe along the roofline with the words "Nickel Plate High Speed Service". To this day, they remain the best looking cabooses ever to roll on rails. My cousin and I were influenced by our neighborhoods. I had a fire station next door and became a firefighter while my cousin lived next to the main line bridge over Rocky River, became a fireman and later was promoted to engineer for the NKP. Life was good to us!
I've been trying the last 10 years to get some one to restore that engine! It deserves it! The 755 and 765 ran together in the 50's! what a doublehead that would be! For now we can only dream
Thank you for showing my grandpa's old Nickelplate engine. He used to run her out of Ft. Wayne. Yes, he was a railroad engineer. Started out as a fireman and worked his way up.
Spectacular, no two ways about it. I love these great old steam combination runs. I make a point of getting to see one each summer. Seeing Challenger two times is a real thrill! I've never seen #765 though, and that's nuts because I grew up in NKP country - small town N. Ohio. An NKP line went through town and I recall lots of times riding the bike out to watch big steam roll by. I just wish they would lose the diesels though. I know it's for electric, but looks like the steam loco needs it.
With the old Caddy coming up the road there at 11:18 and the steam loco crossing the bridge a little later, I thought for a minute we had taken a trip back in time. Very nice!
This video is amazing. Awesome, awesome stuff, man. Love those shots with the curves. Nothing like a steamer balls to the wall rounding a sharp curve. Thanks for sharing this epicness. Love that badass intro too!
Nice to see a train that is still allowed to blow its horn while riding thru town. My home town of Flagstaff, Arizona recently banned the trains from doing so, as so many new comers complained about it. If you dont like the sound of trains, then dont move to a train town!
NP ran through my Grandmother's town of St. Mary's OH, and she was telling me that as a kid everyone was terrified of those engines. She says she still has nightmares about them.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to see her today in Toledo, so it'll give me an opportunity to film her and pan like you suggested I do. Thanks for watching!
sweet video nice to see the Nickel Plate road steam engine #765 and the Nickel Plate Road Heritage #8100 come together again after so long :D Michael Scott
Whomever took this phhoto trip forgot that rail cars are not the center of attention. It is the locomotive that is the star of the show. Watching rail cars go by is boting. The Iron Horse. is what is the rarity.
765 runs her historic route every year! Each time she is fired up she runs on home rails, either to get from point a to point b, or to run for NS's birthday train.
Great shots. She's a tribute to all of the staff that've committed to her preservation and performance these number of years. If you've got a good pilot in the second seat we could run hot a lot of time through some good curves. ALWAYS as good performer and remember double heading with her crews. Good to see she's stretching her legs.
Excellent film! I've also watched a couple more of your films and see that you are real train enthusiast. So am I. I'm just crazy about the steam locomotives, though! Love those magnificient machines. I'm definitely subscribing. Thank you so much for your efforts and your sharing. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your future uploads. Take care! ...anwar...
superb video of one of the worlds best steam classes and my favorite steam loco. can't wait till we get our 1/5th 752 back in steam over here in the UK Hell of a load it was hauling there, was the DE giving any assist or just providing electric for the stock and backup?
I heard this will be going from Ft Wayne to Lafayette, IN in October and I want to see it. When that happens both engines will there correct ? As always another awesome video !
Glad you are open minded about my comment. As I said, your video is great and the quality excellent. Try to follow the train as it passes so we can see it going away from the camera. You might also try to get away from the grades crossing bells and noise if you can. I realize that can't always be done. How can I tell when you post another video? Bob
Great video! Thank you for sharing. Is is true that all steam excursions now in the US have a diesel helper? If really needs the diesel helper, the Berkshires's performance (or any steam locomotive's) is not that impressive in my humble opinion. .
I know N.K.P. 765's sister locomotive 755. Because it's up here in the Conneaut Railroad Museum. I wish someone could fix it up the 755 to due excursions between Chicago and Buffalo.
every time she si fired up she will run somewhere usualy between ft wayne and bellevue. That is if she heads east. If she runs west, she will normaly use the Ft wayne to chicago route. Her home base is New HAven, IN, right along the NS mainline between Bellevue and Ft Wayne.
The new CEO of NS is is pushing steam, thats why all of the sudden the office car special is pulled by 765, I read a quote of his about bringing steam back. I think if we got a huge petition of people to send to him for the restoration of 755, he'd do it!
To fix NKP 755 we would need to win big Power Ball Lottery money to get someone to restore history of 755. I really wish 765 would come into Conneaut, Ohio for a historic moment stop. I don't think Norfolk Southern would let it run on it's own historic route. But CSX would allow it. Because I was there when Canadian Pacific 2816 4-6-4 stopped in Conneaut, OH in front the RR Museum in June 13, 2004 8 1/4 years ago.
so I noticed that Mid America has paid tribute to the cars former owners. for example if you look closely on some of them.. a couple were former SP daylight cars hey even have the SP daylight logo. but my name curiousity is this.. is Mid America a private car fleet or owner or what?
cosgirl8806 - Yeah, I know, that's why they do it. I like the whistle to but when they blow the whistle all the time, it's gets downright annoying after a time.
nightlightabcd Like it was said before: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING IT?!?!?!? There is NOTHING like seeing/hearing 765 at speed! Now if they can just FORGET to put the DAMNED DIESEL behind the tender...........
Cullen Tabaczynski- Yeah, I know, but it still gets really annoying after awhile. You don't see British steam trains blowing their whistles 90% of the time.
Your photography is excellent, but you only panned one shot. You keep the camera fixed instead of swinging it around to follow the train as it passes. Boring to see all the coars over and over. Show some going away shots. Otherwise and excellent video.

Just a fantastic video! So awesome to see 765 out on the high iron! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for showing my grandpa's old Nickelplate engine. He used to run her out of Ft. Wayne. Yes, he was a railroad engineer. Started out as a fireman and worked his way up.
That is amazing
I was on a fan trip on #759 Berkshire back in Oct./1969. This brought back a lot of memories. Great work ! Keep them coming.
Got see this lady today in 9-9-12, in St Charles, Mo. She is awesome. Thxs for this post.
Spectacular, no two ways about it. I love these great old steam combination runs. I make a point of getting to see one each summer. Seeing Challenger two times is a real thrill! I wish they would leave the diesel back at the yard.
the diesel is just there to provide extra braking power that's all
Thanks for the comment! Especially since it's coming from you, one of the best Railfan video producers out there!
wow, 765 that girl so strong you, I love you
With the old Caddy coming up the road there at 11:18 and the steam loco crossing the bridge a little later, I thought for a minute we had taken a trip back in time. Very nice!
Excellent job. Love all the locations you picked
Awesome!! One of the best videos I've seen of her yet!
Beautiful shots! I'll see you at the Horseshoe Curve!
This video is amazing. Awesome, awesome stuff, man. Love those shots with the curves. Nothing like a steamer balls to the wall rounding a sharp curve. Thanks for sharing this epicness. Love that badass intro too!
Got to see it in St Charles too. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Nice to see a train that is still allowed to blow its horn while riding thru town. My home town of Flagstaff, Arizona recently banned the trains from doing so, as so many new comers complained about it.
If you dont like the sound of trains, then dont move to a train town!
So what do they do WHEN someone or some vehicle is struck by a train not allowed to blow the horns? this is unbelievable!
I agree!
And those people shouldn't move to a town that's on the transcon THE FUCKING SOUTHERN TRANSCONTINENTAL MAINLINE
NP ran through my Grandmother's town of St. Mary's OH, and she was telling me that as a kid everyone was terrified of those engines. She says she still has nightmares about them.
WOW! Thats Impressive what a Magnificent Locomotive
Great stack from 765!
Fantastic video and one of the "great" moments to remember in 21st century railfanning!
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to see her today in Toledo, so it'll give me an opportunity to film her and pan like you suggested I do. Thanks for watching!
sweet video nice to see the Nickel Plate road steam engine #765 and the Nickel Plate Road Heritage #8100 come together again after so long :D

Cool too! 11:15 to 11:30 the old 50's Chevy in the scene too is perfect!!
I'm happy to see NS Heritage Unit #8100 trailing behind #765.
Excellent production!!!
Whomever took this phhoto trip forgot that rail cars are not the center of attention. It is the locomotive that is the star of the show. Watching rail cars go by is boting. The Iron Horse. is what is the rarity.
Gracias por este vídeo esta Hermoso, hermoso, hermoso, hermoso, gracias
Ah, what better to have for a helper than the Nickel Plate GEVO!
Great shots in this video. Love that stack at the start. Keep on posting these great videos.

I never noticed that! Very cool!
cant wait for may 12th for it to be back in bellevue miss it the first time but got a treat as it ran right by my house in toledo also nice vid
Yeah, her catalytic convertor is in the shop for spring cleaning. And, it's not a "thing" to most people. Great Video work

impressive footage and presentation. Just great!
This is a very nice video indeed! Shows the 765 really doing what it's meant to do!
The first scene is awesome! Great job.
superb video of one of the worlds best steam classes and my favorite steam loco. can't wait till we get our 1/5th 752 back in steam over here in the UK Hell of a load it was hauling there, was the DE giving any assist or just providing electric for the stock and backup?
I heard this will be going from Ft Wayne to Lafayette, IN in October and I want to see it. When that happens both engines will there correct ? As always another awesome video !
It legit happened that way! It worked out great!
Glad you are open minded about my comment. As I said, your video is great and the quality excellent. Try to follow the train as it passes so we can see it going away from the camera. You might also try to get away from the grades crossing bells and noise if you can. I realize that can't always be done. How can I tell when you post another video? Bob
Great video love the steam engines wish they where used as much as they used to be and is that a Baldwin engine
Great video! Thank you for sharing.

If really needs the diesel helper, the Berkshires's performance (or any steam locomotive's) is not that impressive in my humble opinion.
.
nice video and chase!...now if we can get the 765 on NS's Chicago line via wasueon OH Elkhart IN and Chesterton IN also note the car at 11:24
Pentrex should hire you! Nice work!!
Yes.
Good video! However, 765 is not part of the 21st century steam program. She was only part of NS's 30th birthday train.
Well done!, She looks at right at home.
Great run by shots.
Well done.
the light on the front of the engine used to swing from one side to the other.
Saw this locomotive today in Rocky River, Ohio
I know N.K.P. 765's sister locomotive 755. Because it's up here in the Conneaut Railroad Museum. I wish someone could fix it up the 755 to due excursions between Chicago and Buffalo.
i remeber this when i was 5 or years old
Was that a setup shot when that old cady came rolling up the road just befor the 765 came over the bridge, or did it really just happen that way?
every time she si fired up she will run somewhere usualy between ft wayne and bellevue. That is if she heads east. If she runs west, she will normaly use the Ft wayne to chicago route. Her home base is New HAven, IN, right along the NS mainline between Bellevue and Ft Wayne.

Ooooooh will there be any special excursions?
She blows a perfect smoke ring at 4:58. How awesome is that?
hey did norflok and southern switch out her whistle or is it the original factory whistle.
Awesome video!
To fix NKP 755 we would need to win big Power Ball Lottery money to get someone to restore history of 755. I really wish 765 would come into Conneaut, Ohio for a historic moment stop. Either I'm going crazy or from 3:18 until the 765 passes her whistle sounded familiar to how it did back in the 90's
Is the diesel locomotive assisting with the pull??
Where does she start and end her historic route. Does 765 come through Conneaut, OH!? I would love to catch her. When does she run the route.
Ah. Thanks.
LOVE THE WHISTLES
Awesome!!!
You got me on camera at 3:50 and at 6:24 😅😅😅
the model j maybe coming back my dad told me that he read in a train magazine not to long ago
so I noticed that Mid America has paid tribute to the cars former owners. for example if you look closely on some of them.. a couple were former SP daylight cars hey even have the SP daylight logo. but my name curiousity is this.. is Mid America a private car fleet or owner or what?
well has the 587 even got out of restoration yet?
but is the 587 even out of the repair shop yet?
Like Horseshoe curve and places?
No, not totally true. Besides, when they do use a diesel helper, its usually for dynamic breaking only.
well, what about the route that #765 did?
No, it's not. It's the ex-N&W, nee-PRR mainline from Sandusky, OH to Columbus, OH.
i would love to see an articulated on that line
Fantastic!! Love All the Trains Rode over 200,000 miles on all of them!! 1943 to current date!! www.hooksettfireworks for another ride!
hey. what happened to NKP 587?
Love it , but hate that ugly diesel in tow.
Great video, but I wish they would knock it off with the damn whistle already. Good grief!
If you don't like it, don't watch. Some people like myself LOVE the whistle.
cosgirl8806 - Yeah, I know, that's why they do it. I like the whistle to but when they blow the whistle all the time, it's gets downright annoying after a time.
nightlightabcd
Like it was said before: IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING IT?!?!?!? There is NOTHING like seeing/hearing 765 at speed! Now if they can just FORGET to put the DAMNED DIESEL behind the tender...........
nightlightabcd They are required to blow the whistle four times at a crossing.
Cullen Tabaczynski- Yeah, I know, but it still gets really annoying after awhile. You don't see British steam trains blowing their whistles 90% of the time.
i have seen a train just like this one but all of the train car said barnem and bailey circus
Anytime.
Your photography is excellent, but you only panned one shot. You keep the camera fixed instead of swinging it around to follow the train as it passes. Boring to see all the coars over and over. Show some going away shots. Otherwise and excellent video.

Look at all that pollution that thing is pouring out!
Awesome! I'm foaming. ;)
That means hating train
Фуууу! Паровоз как декорация - тепловоз поезд тащит. Не интересно это!
