I don't think they ever left. They never abandoned their faith. It's part of who they are and you can hear it clearly through all their albums. This song it may be a bit more obvious though!
Yes...... but all musicians CHANGE as they age, get married, have families & children. I have been with #SWITCHFOOT since they were all young, & just starting out. I called them "my boys". lol They have ventured out into many "topics"...... homelessness, racism, & helping the youth in San Diego. But those are all "earthly" pursuits. They are returning to "relationship" with God songs. Speaking of their personal experiences now that they have circled the globe many times and seen, "That those that have the least, are usually the most spiritual". #JonForeman's journey is truly an amazing one. And I was so happy to see them in concert with my 18 yo daughter who enjoys them too. :-D Have a nice day Andy.

I just want to thank you guys! :) you changed my life with this song when everything was falling apart for me and my family because God spoke to me through this song and many of the songs of the new album.I just listened to it after my grandfather had a really complicated surgery and my grandmother passed away last year. They came in the right time because i was so confused, dissappointed and sad that i didnt know what to do I even got angry with God and stopped trusting Him, but you know this song made me appreciate life as i never did before, "I wont let you go" made me understand that God was not responsible for my suffering and that He didnt abandoned me durign those hard times, "hope is an attempt" made me believe in God again and relearn all the lessons He taught me in the past. Words are not enough to tell you that you change lives with your music and God uses you to heal people´s souls. I hope God blesses all of you a lot :)

this accoustic version honestly kinda saved the track for me. the album version, musically, seemed a little to generic sounding for my taste and expectation for switchfoot but this version gave me a new appreciation

I feel bad for Drew sometimes, he's always so into what he's doing, but it seems like his parts are drowned out and can only been heard for brief moments.
Drew has definitely made his way to a lead member in the band. He plays all the lead guitar parts while Jon focuses more on singing, atleast when they play live. Maybe for the video, the person directing it wanted Jon to be the main focus. But I recommend seeing them on their upcoming tour! Drew stands in front now with Jon and Tim and he kills it on the guitar.
Honestly I think he's playing it that way on purpose, the parts he is adding are super tasteful and add to the song. Perhaps he felt like playing out louder didn't suit this "acoustic" version of the song! Also, to me it looks like he may be playing the same part as Jerome is playing on the piano. Just my observations!
One thing I have learned in playing music is just how much playing little to nothing can be if used in the right moment. I think he is showing great skill in holding back. But very good point too. Because when they play live Drew rocks the house from the front of the stage with the other guys :D
Absolutely, Drew is an incredible guitar player, and an equally incredible man. HE is as much Switchfoot as Jon, Same goes for Jerome and Chad. I love, and admire these men for so much more than just their music.
