More than two years later, this still hits hard. I have no reservations saying I like this as much as I like the classic Arch-era Fates Warning albums. No one else writes metal like this.
Αrch is an ancient minstrel reciting legendary epic stories, a medieval troubadour that sings of great deeds, a bard composing songs of mythical creatures and wizards. He is all that and many more, his voice is truly ethereal and eternal. I could just listen to him singing acapella for hours without the need of accompanying music, though the music here really lifts off. This is heavy ethereal music that will last for the centuries to come!

Never heard of these guys. Put this on out of the blue. Just had this funny feeling I should give it a listen. When the music started, I felt all the hair on my arms and legs stand on end, then I began to weep. Oh my God, this is inspired. Have also been sick in isolation for a year now; felt more alive listening to this than I have in a while. Thank you. Thank you.
This consists of the guitar master from Fates Warning (Matheos) and their first singer from the 80's (Arch). Since you like this, you should definitely check out the early Fates Warning albums. Namely, Awaken the Guardian and The Spectre Within. Also, their EP titled Night on Brocken. Great stuff!!!

Still a band that just radiates perfection, imo. Ray Alder was also the vocalist for another fantastic prog band concurrently called Redemption. Give them a listen as well!

What will never change: John will always deliver the goods, regardless of age (and his lyrics get better and better); and Jim will never grow stale, becoming even more creatively inspired and brilliant as he ages. Stuff like this JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN in music. These men are in the 50s and 60s. These are exceptional people, in metal or any other genre. And I'm proud to say I think most of the fans appreciate that fact. Anyone on metal/progressive forums during the early days of the Internet remember people like me lamenting the absence of John Arch from music, and again after A Twist of Fate. When I finally got to see him perform live in 2012 at the Webster show, I think everyone in the room cried in ecstasy at one point or another.

Are you f*&#in kidding me!!! This is a perfect fusion of true modern metal with the kick ass harking back to Awaken the Guardian. Gives me chills. Arch has that one-of-a-kind powerful voice, which has not changed in over 30 years...amazing!
How did I not know this came out back then? I've still only been listening to Sympathetic Resonance on repeat, adoring the F out of it hoping for another release.
Nothing against Ray Alder or any of the other guys but to me this is Fates Warning. Jim and Jon together writing riffs and vocal melodies. Most of the older guys don't have it anymore. Jon is an exception. Brilliant record.

Why does the arch/mathoes stuff blow fates warning out of the water? Its pisses me off because i know Ray Alder has a powerful voice. Its like Matheos uses Arch for the metal and Alder for the boring progressive shit. Just curious what your take on the two bands is.

Well, I think this is fine but not heavy enough for my personal taste. That's what counts in the end, right? I would never leave a dislike or a hateful comment if I don't dig it though. No energy wasted for something that leaves me cold. :)

For me personally the singer is a big no no, no matter how good the band would be, if the singer sucks, its just impossible to enjoy the whole package, this dudes voice is so typical and annoying(whining) in the mix.. One reason why i personally prefer instrumental music.

Soon, I'll be getting the disc. This is simply amazing. It is interesting to see Jim take a page out of the O.S.I. playbook by having another band with two core members and using talented guest musicians to fill out the rest of the band on the different tracks. It is something that he mastered with O.S.I. and it seems that the formula works extremely well in the case of A/M's second album.
Honestly it's the best case scenario for Jim. He gets to compose diverse music while working with some of the best artists in the industry. And he still has his full time gig with Fates. Win win for Jim and us fans :)
I became a fan of the music of these twos guys when FW 2 and 3 were released all those years ago. It’s so awesome hear great new music from them again and it picks up where they left off with “Awaken the Guardian.” Ordering my copy now.
I love all of john arch and jim matheos work and albums. All their albums are top awesome notch the best music and vocals. John Arch has superberb mystical high pitch bad ass vocals its like a combination of Bruce Dickinson and Geof Tate combined but still it his own vocals he his the best metal vocals in metal and progressive metal of all time and jim shredding hell yeah and bass and drums fucking killer
The creativity in this new album is beyond genius! After listening to it about 50 times now, I have to say, IDK what to say. It is so unique. I have always been a Fates Warning/Arch Matheos fan. They are SOOOOO underrated! This is what happens when singers take a break. Their voice gets saved. Awesome vocalists like Geoff Tate and Rob Halford lose it cause they just kept going. Arch sounds like he did in awaken the guardian. IDK if I like this better than sympathetic resonance . Both albums have awesome tracks. I did not like pitch black prism when i first started listening to this a few times. Now it blows me away. Kindred spirits is an awesome way to end the album. My favorite part of the whole album is from 52:15 to 53:45. IDK how many times I've played that over and over and over.
