This is Judy Garland‘s only death scene in all of her movies. In little Nelly Kelly she played the mother and the daughter and she died when she gave birth. So it was originally written that the same actress would play the mother and the daughter but Louis B Mayor forbid it saying that we cannot let that baby have a baby even though she was almost 19. So they filmed the scene at night when the studio was closed in secret and Louis B Mayor didn’t know until he went to the premiere of the movie that she was playing her own mother and died. And he was so angry afterwards because they wanted to keep her a little kid and her having a baby and dying ruined that perception. It’s good she did it, even if it was in secret, because she’s so good It’s a shame that the scene was so short because it’s obvious she’s an incredibly talented actress way beyond her amazing voice
They did NOT film this at night in secret. 🙄 LB Mayer made that comment because he did not want Judy Garland the actress to have a baby with composer David Rose in real life. If Louis didn't want this scene to happen it would have never gotten to movie theatres. That is a false story.
@@nzarzecki You're right. Mayer's outrage about "that baby having a baby" was the idea of real-life Judy ruining her childlike image, which could have had a few more years to go. The idea of Mayer being kept in the dark about anything at MGM is pretty silly, as is spelling his name Mayor.
I love this movie. When she sings Singing In The Rain and rolls her eyes at the end 😍 . Also when she sings It's A Great Day For The Irish. She is so beautiful and her voice is amazing.
Tears come easily and quickly when it comes to Judy Garland. Purely for the love of money, those she trusted abused and destroyed her precious life. Judy was a priceless treasure.💘
this scene is so hard because he loses the love of his life and the way he cries makes my heart break, but at the same time he gained a daughter that reminds him of what a wonderful person she was and later on he was such a good father. he defended her against her grandfather and stuck up for her a lot. no matter how much she looked like her mom he always tried to be happy with what he had. this movie is so good and I recommend buying it because its one of her lesser known films but it was still beautiful.
+Al Mueller Liza works very hard, spends a lot of energy, but often looses the key, doesn't have her.mothers range, or her mother's emotion. She made it in this business because of who her mother was. She knew it too, that's why she kept saying I made it on my own. She made reference to that at the Academy Awards the year she was given.the award. In That's Entertainment Fred Astaire said when he introduced Liza, she made it on her own, yes she did. Again another attempt at trying to convince the World she made it on her own. She is a women with so-so talent. who worked very hard to get everything she could out of what so-so talent she had. And as far as her singing goes, Lorna was 5 times better than Liza. Now neither can sing.
That’s so sad that Judy garland died I gonna miss her so much she had a birthday 🎁 🎂🎊🎉🌈 in my favorite movie called the wizard of oz she sang somewhere over the Rainbow 🌈
1 Jerry stared Off A Husbend And JUDY GARLAND Neille Noonon Wife And Dies 2 Jerry Ends Off Now A Police 3 JUDY GARLAND Back To Life As Litte Nelle Kelly And Sings 4 Jerry As A Police And JUDY GARLAND Married Again And Like The Princess Bride And Its A Great Day For The IRISH Or SCOOTLISH
She's saying "Jerry, you and Dan must pull together from now on. For our daughter's sake. You will, won't you? Promise me? .....you've got a job on your hands. But I'll be near you, always."
Doctor: Your wife has been picking cotton. Man: Is she making cotton candy for me? Doctor: Go see ya wife you prick! Man: O. k doc but do want some cotton candy? Doctor : Guard, take this skank out and put him with the trash!

I’ll cry for real too if I were to act in this scene and that Judy (who was such an adorable young girl at the time) was pretending to die.

Another touching scene with her in a bed. Even the placement of the window, her laying on the pillow reminds you of the Wizard of Oz.

If you didn't like this, you don't have a heart. As for Liza, she is a person of so-so talent, who made it on her mother's name period.

Typical misogynistic old film. Girl looks 17 man looks old enough to be her grandfather 🙈
