@@cykablyatman6242 It isn’t, it sounds way too strong to be 4011’s whistle. 4011’s whistle was in very bad shape by the time 4011 was retired. There’s a recording of 4011’s whistle from July 1959, made just days before all the Big Boys were out of service, and it sounded very weak and wheezy.
Glad to see that the 4014 is out operating on tour this year after the "postponed" Pacific northwest tour that was planned earlier this year. The whistle that 4014 currently has sounds like a whistle combination between the UP 844/ SP&S 700, after hearing both of their whistles this is my personal conclusion/ observation.

@@rockguitarist931 UP doesn't have the capabilities to operate much heritage equipment anymore. So they decided to donate them to the RRHMA instead of having them die inside. Be grateful, because they will run once RRHMA gets them restored.
Honestly I am torn, I loved '14's whistle he had before now, but it is cool he got his old voice back; both sound powerful and commanding but his original sounds a little tired while the other sounded alive and revived.
The whistle heard in this video is one that 4014 wore in service in the 40s and 50s. It went into private ownership for some time before Ed Dickens acquired the whistle and placed it on the 844 in 2011. 844 has thus worn this whistle until now, at which time it has been placed back onto the 4014, replacing the new-old-stock whistle that UP placed on it when it was donated in 1962.

Likely not its original whistle from the factory. That would have been replaced long before the steam age ended. Once a whistle is steam cut to the extent that 844's 80s whistle and 3985's whistle have been, it's more prudent to replace them than try to repair them. Remember that by definition, steam cutting removes material from the whistle bell, thus shortening the chambers. I'm sure you could re-machine some whistles to get some extra mileage out of them, but past a certain point, it's impractical.

It’s not you, the steam team made a good bit of tweaks to the firing system before 4014 ran last year on the tour in Texas. It’s possible they’ve since made more.
The older whistle is beyond repair, so it will either get 4014s other whistle, a whistle off of another large UP Steam locomotive, or a completely new one entirely.
Yes, Ed Dickens borrowed the whistle from Ed Gerlits in 2011 for use on the 844. Unfortunately Gerlits passed away, and so the whistle now remains in the possession of the UP steam crew.
This whistle fits Big Boy so much better. It has that grunt to it that fits him.
It's even more fitting when you take into account that this is 4014s original whistle, at least it is in my opinion.

Yes. The 4015 is specially equipped to feed the PTC data to the in cab screens on 4014.

That’s 3985. 844 is still owned by Union Pacific. 3985, 6936, 5511, and a bunch of equipment UP is not using is moving out.

Likely not its original whistle from the factory. That would have been replaced long before the steam age ended. Once a whistle is steam cut to the extent that 844's 80s whistle and 3985's whistle have been, it's more prudent to replace them than try to repair them. It’s not you, the steam team made a good bit of tweaks to the firing system before 4014 ran last year on the tour in Texas. It’s possible they’ve since made more.
The oil burner is a atomizer. I am sure that the team has made tweaks. That firebox and combustion chamber are huge.
