- Lords from across the realm looked to Harrenhal and the thousands attending the great council of 101 ac to find out the fate of the seven kingdoms. Who would be the heir of Jaehaerys Targaryen, The Old King. There were many claims to look at, but it would come down to two. The kings Grandon Viserys or his great-grandson Laynor. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on Geroge R R Martins A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

Hello all. Just a quick note I had to edit our about 16 seconds in total from this video that UA-cam copyright system flagged up for music, which is odd because there wasn’t any. Was easier to edit the bits out that were flagged. It’s mostly seem-less but you can kinda see the cuts in the video a bit. I don’t like cutting my videos like that because it’s messes with my style but needs must. Hopefully won’t happen again

The show makes it seem like Rhaenys was trying to become queen but from what I understood when reading it, she was fighting to have her son named as heir. And he truly did have a good claim but was a child so he wasn’t considered as good a choice as a grown adult.
She was one of the 14 claimants but was rejected due to her sex. She knew this and also put forth Laenor
Although it would be interesting if Sera did visit Jahaerys. I wouldn’t think it too unlikely. She didn’t even bother coming to the great council of the year 101. And a 15 year old would look a lot different than a 34 year old Sera.
I take it as Jaehaerys guilt about the situation manifesting it’s self there. Would be cool if she did visit but as you point out she would be very different.

That’s the best picture of Viserys I’ve seen. The only pics of him I found are when he’s old and fat. I thought Viserys got another dragon after Balerion, if not he easily could have. Great character Viserys, as soon as he takes the throne though he starts to get lazy and overindulged I think.
I really had to do some digging to find some better picture. With Daemon you have loads but it was really tricky to find some decent Viserys ones

This decision bled the realm. This decision stole my mothers crown as well.

@@anarion211983 Argon Usurped the Throne. The Will of the King was well known. Visery’s never changed his mind. Aegon and the Hightowers got all the Dragons killed.
@@alexandrostheodorou8387 Viserys isn't in position to gift freely what he had gained through will of Great Council supported by the wishes of Great King - what all lords gathered and voted is for a male claim over female as it backs their own claims, not for a King to do as he wishes.
It takes two sides for a proper Dance - Otto, Daemon, Corlys, might be considered three roots of the factionalism, backed with Viserys doing not much to fix it.

@@alexandrostheodorou8387 23 years before the War starts, most died ,.some like Tyland swore no oath, some like Cregan weren't even born, both sides sent messengers to negotiate support of Lords Paramount which speaks neither had faith in oaths.

There is never gonna be another king like Jaehaerys or good queen Alysanne. In real feudal society male heir always comes first and not female
On top of that succession should have been made clear with the great council of 101

True, I don't see why Viserys would essentially spit in the face of what made himself King in the first place
Feuadal society has had plenty of queens and such so long as they descend from the male line first. Look at the kingdom of Jerusalem for example.

Isabella of Castile and Leon, Isabella II of Spain, Queen Mary II, Queen Anne, William of Monteferrat who inherited Jerusalem through his mom, King Jadwiga of Poland who was a woman, Maria Teresa of Austria, Elizabeth of Russia, Catherine the great who wasn’t even a Romanov, and a few other examples. Women were uncommon but not unheard of or rare. Even bastard kings existed. Henry II of Castile, John I of Portugal, William the Conqueror, The son of Aethelstan, and some others.
This council proved Aegon II was the rightful king. Rhaenrya's whole claims is "daddy said so!"

This council simply set a precedent on succession, they picked viserys to lead the realm, he had every right and reason to pick the heir he wanted, the entire dance of the dragon could have been avoided if all the green houses had stayed faithful to the oaths they made, in favor of that precedent, no civil war would’ve happened, it’s crazy that you guys say this when the king didn’t even want his demented son on the throne, this council didn’t prove shit but viserys kingship, and his right to pick whoever he wanted as heir, again, a female heir has never been set in stone as illegal in Westeros, it had just never been done
Great video and I remember a video from The Order of the Green Hand which was a theory that Alicent Hightower was the daughter of Otto and Saera Targaryen. Do you think that's possible?
Oooh I like the idea, I've not seen the video. The wiki says Lord Otto's wife was unknown so maybe! The ages would work out with Saera being 21 at the time of Alicent's birth, and she was briefly in Oldtown when she was sent to the Faith as punishment so could have met Otto then, but then she fled the continent and that was three years before Alicent's birth. We'd have to believe that Otto travelled to Lys to the pleasure house where she worked to sleep with her, and returned to collect his child, trusting that she was his and not someone else's.
I highly doubt he was actually married to Princess Saera because surely that would be well known, and they probably wouldn't have lived in separate continents. Besides, Saera wasn't really the type for marriage! So the unknown wife probably isn't Saera - if this is true and you're right too that she is indeed Saera's child then it would make Lady Alicent technically a bastard who's being made to look legitimate as she has the Hightower name, which would also mean her "mother" (Otto's actual wife) would have to be in on the pretence as well... unless of course Alicent was legitimised by royal decree in which case that should also be well known. So I'm not sure it's all that likely, especially if the only evidence is that King Jaehaerys mistook her for Saera in his old age (if there's anything I missed do tell me!). It would be a cool detail though!
It’s definitely possible. I like to think Ottos wife was intentionally kept vague specifically to fuel specifically and debate. I see both side of the argument but think ultimately it would make an interesting twist

My guess is since she was wife to Viserys, who own claim was being put forward, it kind of made no sense to put hers forward since she would be Queen(Tho not Queen regnant) if Prince Viserys won regardless.

@@user-ol2pk9kz7o they were only considered at all because they splashed their cash around, giving expensive gifts to poorer lords. Their claims were dismissed pretty quickly.
Laenor and Viserys were always the only two serious claims, Aemma was way down the succession order, as Daella was one of the younger daughters.
Viserys was the son of Baelon. Baelon was older than Daella.
So basically tv Show didn't do it right , it would have been amazing to see all these lords and gathering in full.
Lack of time and they could only do so much.. they can’t cover every detail of every park in the book, if they did, each episode would have been 2 hours long.
They have a lot of ground to cover, they can only cover so much.
