Before the Coffee Gets Cold - it's a genre called magical realism which is where everything that happens is realistic and could happen except for one aspect. It has 4 stories that are all intertwined, where people can go back in time in a coffee shop! I read it in one day and I found it so cute and refreshing after a lot of romance.
Added to my list!! Haruki Murakami also has a lot of magical realism books. So far I read Sputnik sweetheart, Norwegian wood and Kafka on the shore and they are all so amazing!! Only a heads up, it definitely has spice
@@petra5542 I am 30% through Kafka on the Shore, but the *ahem* spice is a tad much for me. I have currently stopped reading it, and I’ll get back to it later.

“ one of us is lying “ is supposed to be like “ the breakfast club” (if you have watched that and if u haven’t you should!!! Best 80’s movie ever) but like a murder mystery. I also read that this month and gave it 3/5 it was good but it could have been better. There’s other books in the series, you should read them.
You should really read "The thursday murder club" It's four old people that live at a retirement village and solve murders. It's such a fun and amazing book
Noooo. I personally HATED this book. I literally found it so confusing and they tried to do plot twists but it just flopped. I'm happy though that you like it:)
@@bluerays3651 I finished it but I was miserable (honestly just wanted to finish another book for the month). Also it felt like after reading 20 chapters that I was literally only 20 PAGES in (usually I like short bite-sized chapters but it was honestly getting on my nerves).

One of my favorite books is The Book Thief! It is historical fiction based in World War 2. It has no spice but is really sad (just letting you know) Love the video!
The things we never got over is probably my favorite book to exist. It’s such an amazing plot 😭 I love that you don’t love it. It took me a min to get into it
“One True Loves” is one of the best books I read this month. Despite most people, I was rooting for Sam all along. I didn’t even want to entertain any other avenues !

Incredibly overhyped book that encourages treating people with facial differences as "special" rather normal (e.g., August winning the imaginary "kindness award" instead of an academic award)
i CHOKED when u brought out things we never got over. i started it, got 5 pages in and deleted it from my kindle. i- , i’m glad someone else understands, so slay!
If you love books about authors, I would recommend Seven Days in June by Tia Williams. It’s a romance but not a rom-com, and both MC’s are authors. I read it earlier this year and loved it so much! Also, I picked up Every Summer After and Cheat Sheet after I heard you talk about them; can’t wait to read them both 🤓
Haley you have really helped me get back into reading again!! I have struggled with depression and anxiety and fell out of my love for reading. Your videos really helped me find books that I will really enjoy. to fall back in love with it all over again!!
i love one of us is lying, it is one of the first books i READ, not listened to, read after high school and for fun. i have never been a reader/audio book person, i only started sept 2021, got in a slump nov 2021-feb 2022 (took me that long to listen to 1 book). i love reading about drama. one of us is lying is knives out meets pretty little liars meets gossip girl meets breakfast club and love all. wish more people read it
The Traveling Cat Chronicles is incredible! It’s definitely my favorite book of 2022 so far! The reading experience was extremely unique since it’s written in the cats perspective. So I would definitely recommend it especially if u own/like cats.
haley i’m reading the addicted/calloway sisters series rn because of you and i am OBSESSED!!!! i’ve read 5 of the books in the span of like 6 days… i trust your book judgement completely
LOVE all the book content!! you always point me in the way of good books to read! as for a non romance book, “the art of racing in the rain” is sooo good… it made me ball my eyes out but it’s definitely worth the read!
if you want more literary fiction books i recommend on earth we're briefly gorgeous and little fires everywhere! some other books i'd recommend are tale for the time being and human acts. for some more romance you should def read the brown sisters trilogy
If you want to read a book about fantasie with a bit of romance (closed door) I higly recommend 'Legendborn form Trecy Deonn'. The book is about a girl whos mom passed away. When she go to college she sees magic on her first night on campus. This reveales more about her mother death. She goes into a secret society to find out what happenend to her mother. Bree (the girl) is black and the book also handels (the history of) racisme, wich made it not just a basic book. It's literly soooooo good. Sorry if my english isn't good, because its not my native language hehe.
if you want to try YA fantasy/sci-fi definitely try Skyward by Brandon Sanderson! He writes a lot of high fantasy and its soooo good! There's a tiny romance subplot but definitely no spice. The banter and the characters are always great in his books and Skyward is a great place to start with fantasy and sci-fi.
ma’am i was super into reading before i found your channel, but i have to say, you continue to feed into my awesome book addiction and i love it so much🤣you’re so well spoken and you never disappoint with your recommendations!
Thank you so much for recommending "One True Loves" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I just finished it and I'm still wishing it would lead to a different ending 💔 This book is too devastatingly good that you'd still read it even if it breaks your heart and makes you wanna cry your heart out for the characters 😭💔
I think with book lovers, I took the title as more of a nod to Libby and nora and their relationship and journey through the book. The story seems to ultimately be about them two and navigating life after their mom and I felt like it was more a tribute to what reading and books did to save their lives and give them the lives they wanted ultimately and Charlie played a smaller role in that❤
My favorite books are The Secret History by Donna Tartt and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, both of which I highly recommend if you want something weird, far from romance, but still a classic! Also, I would love to see a video of you reading classic novels (like the kind high schoolers read in the AP Literature course) and giving your thoughts on them! I can comment/instagram DM you a list of some of my personal favorites of those!
Jacqueline Woodson, Red at the Bone!!! So good, one of my favorite books ever. Short, only 196 pages. Talks a lot about race, but the whole book talks about how 2 families from different classes handled an unplanned teen pregnancy. Talks about a lot of relevant topics to the world today, for sure a special book in my heart (6 stars, as you say)...
my favorite video of the month. about book lovers not being related to them bonding over books... I KNOW. also i feel like that happens with emily henry's books. like beach read wasn't really set in a tropical beach like the cover showed (still loved the setting not complaining), and people we meet on vacation... well it's not really about people they meet on vacation lol
"The Forty rules of love", historical fiction written by the great Turkish author "Elife Shafak". A spiritual plot twist, Two stories between past and present, a lot of POVs and beautiful characters, and the main character is an editor. Some reviewers think that this book was written by an angel not a human, and I agree with them ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My favourite book of all the time I think you should read it if you wanna start getting into clean romance written by Muslim authors ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
hey hailey! i just wanted to say, i recently bought “one of us is lying” , the book you recommended and i’ve been reading it, and i love it!! at barnes and nobles i saw a section titled “booktok” and it was there! it feels so good when a creator recommends a product and it turns out to be awesome! thank you Hailey, a fellow book lover 😊😊
You’ve always inspired me and I’ve officially decided to start a UA-cam Channel because of you! I’m so excited and passionate about starting this new chapter of my life. I’ll also be chatting about books on mine. Love you Haley🫶🏼
I'm so happy you read the cheat Sheet!! It's one of my favs, and the book that made me obsessed with Sarah Adams books. So, far all of the books I've read of hers are super cute and have basically no spice. You should do a video of you reading only Sarah Adams books, I would love to see that❤️❤️
Literally my thoughts exactly for Things We Never Got Over!!! Knox was so aggressive and annoying. He wasn't grumpy, he was possessive and not in a cute way lol
Also he was so immature for a man that is in his 40s. The spicy scenes were also incredibly cringe, almost DNF’d when she called it “his weapon of mass destruction”. The only thing that kept me going was the sweet relationship between Naomi and her niece.
'Out of My Mind' by Sharon M. Draper is such a cute book & it's not romance. It's about this girl who was born unable to speak, but she's super intelligent. I read it many many years ago so it might be a bit young, but it's one of my favourite books!
mystery/thriller: behind every lie, blood junction, because you're mine !! not our kind by kitty zeldis is also a historical fiction novel that i enjoyed a lot :)
If you want a thriller i'd say PLEASE READ BEHIND HER EYES by Sarah Pinborough! The plot twist is phenomenal and you will never guess it. Pretty sure no one has. It had booktube on chokehold when it came out. Or in my dreams i hold a knife by Ashley Winstead. (Dark academia thriller/ another booktube fave) Also Nightfilm by Marisha Pessl. Its basically evelyn hugo vibes, but make it thriller version.
this is so helpful! The only books i read were we were liars, you have reached sam, and to all the boys ive loved before. I just started watching you yesterday bc i was so bored but you made it so entertaining. the day flew by! i have made a whole list of books bc of your videos... thanks!! I have you have a good day/night and stay safe! 😄
In October you should read “Two Can Keep A Secret” by Karen M. McManus!! It’s not the best in terms of writing, but it has amazing fall/Halloween vibes and it’s perfect for the fall. Also the last line literally gave me goosebumps (don’t spoil it for yourself!!)
If you loved Francine Rivers and you haven’t read her Mark of the Lion series, you HAVE to read them. It’s a little bit of everything but they are INCREDIBLE. Some of the best books I’ve ever read. Highly highly recommend and would love to hear your review!! 🤩
You should read The Night Circus!! My favorite book of ALL TIME :) It's about two magicians duelling each other in a circus setting and theres a tinyyyy bit of romance but not much. So fun to read!!
I think you would really like reading Anxious People! It’s such a BEAUTIFUL book. It’s not a romance, it’s kind of a mystery, yet is so heart warming and wholesome!
okay so i've got two recommendations that are not romance books! first: Heartless by Marissa Meyer, this is a rewriting of the story of the queen of hearts and I loved it so much if you like Alice in Wonderland and a different universe I would totally read this one! second: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, this is my all time favorite book. It is so beautifully written and it is really unique. It's about a girl named Liesel who needs to stay with fosterparents because of the war. Please read it you won't regret it!!!
I LOVED ‘Funny you should ask’ I’m not on Tik tok but I saw it on Amazon and literally jsut bought it because I thought the cover was BOMB. So so pretty. 😭😭
Crazy how I love to watch your monthly wrap ups about mostly romance books while I don't read romance at all. I love to watch to the beautiful covers and hear about your opinion about the books that I probably never going to read.😊 My favorite books of all time is A caller's game from JD Barker or The chain from Adrian Mckinty📚 I think those books are out of your comfort zone.
You should do a video for people who want to get into reading this summer! It could be recommendations that are a mix of romance, mystery, etc. but focus on books that are easy to read and some of your favs.
PLEASE do a "present classics" book reading month. Maybe The Catcher in the Rye, Great Gatsby, The Outsiders, 1884... Its way different than what you read but they are great books!!!!
Haley, non romance books you should read are All The Light We Cannot See or Beneath A Scarlet Sky! I know they are books that you normally would not be interested in reading, but they are SO GOOD! Please just give them a try 🙏🏻
“Where the crawdads sing” is a good one, “beartown” is one too but look at the TW, or “liberation” by Imogen Kealey is a historical fiction about WWII ☺️
You should read A Thousand Splendid Suns!!! I read it like two weeks back and it has easily become my favourite book. It had me sobbing by the end of it. I am sure you will love it and it is definitely something different than your normal style!
My FAVORITE book series of a time is Marrisa Meyer's book series "The Lunar Chronicles". A futuristic sci-fi fantasy play off of a couple of the Grimms fairytales characters. The book has some romance and a lot of action. I don't know if it is your genre preference, but it is one of my favs. :)
One of my favorites of all time is Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly (historical fiction based on a true story-the characters are real people-surrounding WWII; the timeline spans 20 years and shifts between the perspectives of three different women from Germany, Poland, and America)!!! SUPER sad by the way but incredible writing. Includes a small romance subplot as well.
I highly recommend that you read "The Dream Daughter" by Diane Chamberlain! It was my favorite book of 2021! Such an amazing story about a Mother's love for her child!
I have a book recommendation!! You must read "Blood Red Road" by Moira Young! It is such a good dystopian novel and I am obsessed with the romance twisted in the plot!! I loved it so much that I read it two times in a row... In three days.
You should read the Replica series! It’s YA and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. Also the world building is simple and easy to navigate.
You have to read All Rhodes lead here by Mariana Zapata. It is great. The character development is chef's kiss. Healthiest relationship development. The side characters are so sweet. The best book i have ever read. Also for no spice read Dance of Thieves. Its a YA fantasy
Book rec that I've literally seen nowhere, but I have no idea why because it's literally so good: Sneak Theif. No romance, YA novel, coming of age, and girl with kleptomania that also has a secret super(?) power. It's the book that got me into reading and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It taught me just how lucky I am to be where I am today.
Hey! I would recommend the Matched series! The books are great; they are dystopian and they have a little bit of everything in there. The romance is beautiful in this book, and the characters are amazing!
This gonna be rlly helpful bc Ive only been reading HP books bc these r the only books I have rn lol I was rlly proud of myself yesterday for reading for 7 hrs and 20 mins.👏👏
you should read salt to the sea by ruta sepetys, it’s historical fiction set during the holocaust, it’s multiple pov, it has a romance subplot, but it’s not like the whole book is romance. it’s such a good book, highly recommend.
Every Summer After was such a great read ❤️ Thank you so much for your book recommendations, I was able to find a lot of gems and fall in love with books all over again ❤️
"We were liars" is a super popular booktok book. it's a mystery, and it's about this girl who lost her memory of an entire summer after an accident happened at her family's summer island. And the summer after the accident is her figuring out what happened, how the accident happened, and everything she forgot. I will warn you that people seem to either love or hate this book. I personally LOVED IT. Now it's not like the entire book was amazing, but the ending TORE my heart out of my chest. I was literally sobbing for like half an hour.not even joking. So I recommend trying that!
"Renegades" is also a really good series. It's a dystopian trilogy. And basically in this future world there are now people who posses powers, and the powered people are divided into two groups. The anarchists and the renegades. Nova our main character, is an anarchist, but she goes on an undercover mission to infiltrate the renegades to learn their secrets so that she can destroy them from the inside. But as she meets the people there and starts to learn more about what they're trying to do, she starts to realize that perhaps they aren't as bad as she's always been told. She also meets a boy, Adrian, who she starts to fall for. And as she spends more time with the renegades she starts to war with herself, and question everything and everyone she's known. It's really good!!! I devoured it. I would also love to see you finish the shatter me series! It's one of my all time favorite series. I know you've already read like the first 2 books. But you should read the rest! That is if you liked them enough to continue the series. The third book is the best, but the rest of the books after the third one are better then the first two, just not as good as the third. (In my opinion.)
You should read Marissa Meyer. She does fairytale retellings, closed door. I'm currently reading Heartless by her. It's like a fun magical, not really fantasy, book about how The Queen of Hearts turned into the Queen of Hearts. It's set in wonderland, and it's YA. It has much romance but it's not your typical romance book at allllll. Also I want to here your thoughts on the rest of the Shatter Me series. I'm on the very last one!
Another YA murder mystery books that has the same feel as One of Us is Lying and Good Girls Guide to Murder series is Courtney Summer’s Sadie and The Project. The best YA mystery writer for me
I also almost dnf "archer's voice". I had seen it over booktok since february so when i finally read it i was kinda disappointed. i felt the same way as you felt. But i decided the push through it and the end kinda brings the whole story together. The last third was probably my favourite because of the character development. Altogether I think its abit TOO hyped.
You should try "Tuesdays with Morrie". it's one of my favorite books ever like up until now I still carry all the wisdom I got from there. it's a memoir, a good start if you're not really into non-fiction.
omg yes! this is also one of my favorite books ever! and as someone like myself who doesn't really read non-fiction, i LOVED it. this is a great recommendation :)
Some non-romance focused books I love: Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix (historical fiction), the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society (historical fiction; there is romance but it’s not the main focus), pretend she’s here by Luanne rice (ya psychological fiction)
omg you should try reading "Before the Coffee Gets Cold"! I think it's the kind of literary non-spice fiction you'd be looking for and it's short and sweet and you can finish it in like one sitting. It's about this cafe in Tokyo where people can go back in time but they have to come back to the present before their coffee gets cold x
There’s a book on my shelf that I CANNOT wait to read because just from the back cover, it seems like a summer page turner! It’s called “The Newcomer” by Mary Kay Andrews!
You would love the Mirror Visitor Quartet! Those books square themselves. The first one is okay, but the second one is twice as good, and by the time you read the fourth one, you will be screaming! I loved them!
if u want something RLY out of your comfort zone but still absolutely wonderful i highly highly highly recommend goodbye, again by jonny sun! it’s a collection of EXTREMELY short (like, one page) personal essays and it’s so touching and fast paced and easy to read. this is one of the books that i really feel should be required reading for everyone on the planet. he talks abt so many profound/heartwarming/relatable/emotional things without making anything feel to heavy or difficult to digest. i really think you’d like it!! and it’s filled with adorable little doodles !!
You are literally doing the lords work because I always go by your reviews and am never disappointed. Thanks for always weeding out the overhyped books and finding some of my new favorites 😂💜

Some reviewers think that this book was written by an angel not a human, and I agree with them ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favourite book of all the time I think you should read it if you wanna start getting into clean romance written by Muslim authors ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
hey hailey! i just wanted to say, i recently bought “one of us is lying” , the book you recommended and i’ve been reading it, and i love it!! at barnes and nobles i saw a section titled “booktok” and it was there! it feels so good when a creator recommends a product and it turns out to be awesome! thank you Hailey, a fellow book lover 😊😊
You should do a video of you reading only Sarah Adams books, I would love to see that❤️❤️
Omg Haley I totally agree with you on Archer’s Voice - I’m so glad someone with a platform agrees!!
Also read "things we know by heart."
So good,it has that type of romance that the character's life does not just revolve around the romance.
Some book recs: Mocking Jay ( hunger games trilogy for nostolgia) Fault in our stars , Youve reached Sam, They both Die at The End,
mystery/thriller: behind every lie, blood junction, because you're mine !!
not our kind by kitty zeldis is also a historical fiction novel that i enjoyed a lot :)
i recommend ‘before the coffee gets cold’ it’s a really good book that’s not romance, i highly recommend it
If you want a thriller i'd say PLEASE READ BEHIND HER EYES by Sarah Pinborough! The plot twist is phenomenal and you will never guess it. Pretty sure no one has. It had booktube on chokehold when it came out. Or in my dreams i hold a knife by Ashley Winstead. (Dark academia thriller/ another booktube fave)
Also Nightfilm by Marisha Pessl.
truly devious is such a fun mystery, you should definitely check it out!
So fun to read!!
so good!! but takes like 200 pages to get into
I think you would really like reading Anxious People! It’s such a BEAUTIFUL book. It’s not a romance, it’s kind of a mystery, yet is so heart warming and wholesome!
Ah! I’ve been looking forward to this video forever! Thank you!
okay so i've got two recommendations that are not romance books! first: Heartless by Marissa Meyer, this is a rewriting of the story of the queen of hearts and I loved it so much if you like Alice in Wonderland and a different universe I would totally read this one! second: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, this is my all time favorite book. It is so beautifully written and it is really unique. It's about a girl named Liesel who needs to stay with fosterparents because of the war. Please read it you won't regret it!!!
I was just about to recommend the lunar chronicles by Marissa Meyer, one of my favorite series of all time!
agreed with both! they are both heartbreaking
I love to watch to the beautiful covers and hear about your opinion about the books that I probably never going to read.😊
My favorite books of all time is A caller's game from JD Barker or The chain from Adrian Mckinty📚 I think those books are out of your comfort zone.
You should do a video for people who want to get into reading this summer! It could be recommendations that are a mix of romance, mystery, etc. but focus on books that are easy to read and some of your favs.
Karen M McManus is my favorite author. She writes really good mysteries!
Yes!!....
It's such an amazing book...it's historical fiction and the writing isn't cringy at all!...
..And it had me sobbing for hours 🤧
My FAVORITE book series of a time is Marrisa Meyer's book series "The Lunar Chronicles". A futuristic sci-fi fantasy play off of a couple of the Grimms fairytales characters. The book has some romance and a lot of action. I don't know if it is your genre preference, but it is one of my favs. :)
Me too!! Love the Lunar Chronicles
I can’t believe you didn’t finish “Archers voice”!!!! I freaking love it!
You need to read the seven husbands of Evelyn hugo!!! It is my all time favourite. I think you would love it
WOOO! obsessed with all of your book videos. i cannot wait for the summer i turned pretty series to come out in June!!!
You should read the Replica series! It’s YA and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. Also the world building is simple and easy to navigate.
I CANT KEEP UP WITH ALL THESE RECS !! Hahah thanks for the great content Haley!💕
I am SOOO glad i’m not the only one who didn’t enjoy things we never got over 😅 literally i need more book vids please ❤️❤️
You have to read All Rhodes lead here by Mariana Zapata. It is great. The character development is chef's kiss. Healthiest relationship development. The side characters are so sweet. The best book i have ever read. Also for no spice read Dance of Thieves. Its a YA fantasy
just now realizing this channel exists and my life is so much better and my amazon cart is overflowing
The romance is beautiful in this book, and the characters are amazing!
your book videos are always the highlight of my day/week every time u upload and I rewatch ur book videos all the time!!!!
This gonna be rlly helpful bc Ive only been reading HP books bc these r the only books I have rn lol
I was rlly proud of myself yesterday for reading for 7 hrs and 20 mins.👏👏
That’s amazing you should be so proud! I don’t even know you and I super feel proud for you 🥰 love this :)
@@cinnamonbun1354 Thank youu I appreciate it♥♥
you should read salt to the sea by ruta sepetys, it’s historical fiction set during the holocaust, it’s multiple pov, it has a romance subplot, but it’s not like the whole book is romance. it’s such a good book, highly recommend.
I'm on the very last one!
omg im pretty sure you're the first youtuber i watched for not liking things we never got over, and i'm right here with you on this one
A book series you should read out of your comfort zone: The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee. It’s amazing!
I never thought of simpler wilder being compared to the Inheritance Games but now that you’ve said it, I can’t unsee it!
If you are looking for a murder mystery “Good Girls Guid to Murder” is amazing. It is YA and has a bit of romance in it as well.
i think you should try reading Circe even tho u didn’t really like the song of Achilles it’s worth a try 💗
I just started this book !
"if the shoe fits" is really cute. and it is one of my favorite books. you will like it if you watch the bachelor/bachelorette you will like it a lot.
I just love your book vlogs so much! You inspire me to read more books every month 🤩
you're probably not going to see this but you're voice is soooo soothing and comforting 😫
THE MOTHER FREAKING OUTSIDERS! Ik it's old and for teens but it's what got me into reading and I really do feel like it changed my life
You would love the Mirror Visitor Quartet!
Book recommendation that is historical fiction: The Book Thief. One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking books I ever read!!
