I was coming over to share the same link. Thanks, Michael! I always appreciate your perspective. Now it’s time to rewatch the Dirtywave M8 GAS Therapy video 😂
Dude 🎉😂
Awesome more wav samples added to my library, thanks man.
I wonder if there's a similar source for the og pocket operators
nice! I need to load these up to my Octatrack and SP404 MK2.
"At a first glance ... ticking all the boxes" ... waiting for an eventual bad gear review on this :)
let me guess... koala
edit: yep. this software is just unbeatable
😂
Koala for everything, but it's so late for me
Please be koala please be koala
Koala is nice but I have a small phone and big hands. Not a great combination
But.. koala is paid
Koala is an ever expanding multitool. I appreciate you for continuing to spread its reach.
This guy’s deadpan sense of humor and the way he spoofs other UA-camrs is just so top tier. I love it.
The truth of it all is that these types of products are good for maintaining the need to evolve electronic instruments over time...and as we can see, it is also good for making other products like Koala gain publicity. It is always good that there is news products in the market, for better or worse. I prefer seeing new products in our lives each year and not being stuck in Ableton Live for the rest of our short lives. Peace ✌🏻
Awesome episode as always. It’s all about making music and not collecting trendy gear! 🎹🎸🤟
Except it is about collecting cool looking gear right? I mean I like collecting stuff.
But often it’s the specific gear that is the most inspiring.
@@TheDungeonDive I can agree to that, but buying more gear than you are producing music can be a very real hazard
@@JeanLucConnery we all do, but how good of a musician are you. Probably could have made just as good music without new gear.
I really envy people that doesn’t suffer from GAS
As always, I appreciate your reminders. The siren song of hardware that does things my iPad already does-and in a more limited fashion-keeps calling to me. At least with Teenage Engineering, their marketing makes it clear they don’t want me as a customer. 😄
I'm baffled by TE as a company. I don't get how they exist, charging such absurd prices for their equipment; all of it is techno-minimalist stuff, reminiscent of mid-90's computer hardware, and is generally made using the same kinds of parts... They're neatly packaged and clean-looking, but that's about it. 🤷🏻🤷🏻
Their business model is just... weird. It's like their banking on yuppies contracting G.A.S. simply because they don't actually understand what a product does.
@@georgemeller4074 Whatever they're trying to do, it seems to work for them.
Luxury products do have advantages. I know a UA-camr who found a lot of value in their tiny-ass mixer and little speaker/looper. I don't know if the magical spells wore off yet, since I covered my eyes for protection. 🙅🏿♀️
I love how you advocate for DIY when it's more affordable and high quality!
“We got KO II at home”
KO II at home: 🐨
Finally a sane viewpoint to contrast all the GAS. Kudos!
Thank you for this wake up call! Just downloaded Koala - and if I don't get round to using it, it didn't cost me £299 :)
I just stumbled on your channel and immediately subbed after watching this vid. I really appreciate your anti-GAS approach and focus on personal skill improvement. Such a refresher after being inundated with essentially advertising infomercials from most “music gear review” channels.
Keep it up - thank you! 🤘
Appreciated, but don't take my words all, it's just another extreme edge balancing the market.
After the announcement of the K.O. 2 Sampler just waited for the a GAS therapy episode about it and here it is. ❤
Btw.: i bought a cheap ipad some weeks ago and installed Koala, from which i heared first from this channel. Quick and powerful app! I have a lot of fun with it.
Man you are my hero, everytime i have the impulse on buying new gear i always return to your channel and i stop the impulse. Thanks a lot!
You are 100% right. New gear can not make up for the lack of creativity. I love your work. Keep it up. God bless. Sani
a hardware workflow can totally change your creative process and enhance creativity. there is a reason why people choose to go dawless/outside of the computer. people who work with computers, for example
to "remind" people that they can just use their computer for free is not a revelation
thank you i had a GAS problem in photography. your channel slaps
OMG I needed dis GAS so bad this week i have had the most i have felt so meh seeing thing all over the internet but can you trust the internet any more i may need GAS Therapy
The internet is just Television 2.0. It's main purpose is selling you things while creating mediocre content to keep you watching the commercials 😜
Quality entertainment is always found in hobbies.
I don't know why… the way you typed that, I imagined you with literal gas 💨 caused by your GAS. 😸
👏🏽 this approach to gear really separates the doers from the dreamers
I’m starting to really thank my lucky stars I bought my MacBook instead of more beat making gear.
I first got the dr. sample 303. It sparked a revolution in my mind. I became obsessed with, records, different record players, tapes of various formats, the different tape players and recorders and instruments. I filled my house with all kinds of 90’s musical toys that could cost a fortune to some. Then eventually the 404 mk2 and I do love using them. Although, there is no denying that you can achieve a smoother and more tactile workflow with the same, if not better results using a MacBook with GB and Koala.
You won’t be seeing me selling them or trying to pawn them off anytime soon though. Once you put all that stuff in the same daw, it’s like a party in there.
I love these videos. It really is showing us all and re teaching the lesson that started this beat stuff.
You don’t need all the fancy new crap that costs a bunch of money to make good beats. In fact, often times, limiting yourself to stay inside a little box with added limitations can make you compromise ideas you would of never thought of otherwise. This brings new sound to the table and usually improves the workflow.
Much like modern music corporations have a strong hold over the music we listen to on the radio. They get to tell us what is “good” and “acceptable” to be a hit played on the air.
Akai and other analog machine companies are now trying to tell you how to make beats and limit you in the wrong ways. In your wallet. They don’t want to see you as a professional musician for real. You would probably make more money than them with less work.
Everybody needs to take notes from this gentleman right here. He is onto something big.
I'm always so happy when you post. Most original videos in the hardware space.
I’ve been waiting for this one!
great to hear you again, think as you
as someone who bought and returned a ko 2 with a bad fader, heed my words: use what you've got, and don't let the gas overtake you
Your videos are very healing my friend. Thank you. Im just in the process of selling my entire studio of many synthesizes, sequencers outboard fx etc etc. Thousands of moneys worth. It all was just catching dust. Funnily I bumped into your content after I made the tuff decision but its so confirming. Looking forward to live freely again without all the stuff, Gear addiction is a serious desease lol,
Wish you happy improving yourself and getting better 🧗
Always a big Thank You for keeping us focus and show lighting Koala Sampler as a better alternative than the EP-133, for I've been a Koala Sampler user since day one! Again, Thank you from the Koala Sampler Community.
What community? Please…How on earth a 4 dollar app can have a community? How do you come up with these kind of crap. Do the community gather somewhere we don’t know of? By the way, there tens of sampler apps, do they have communities?
the importance of your work is immeasureable. thank you once again
Teenage Engineering almost got me this time around... Thanks for the slap on the wrist and the samples!
the music world doesn't deserve you man. You are awesome!!
“At the first glance it’s is ticking all the boxes” I love how Audiopilz is now a historical legend
You are absolutely correct, thank you for knocking some sense into me. Seriously. I have enough devices, enough gear, etc. What I really need to do is myself into gear with improving my abilities and skills, I need to actually sit down and make music rather than fiddling with loop after loop after loop on new toys.
Absolutely 100% agree and I was pretty much primed to buy this as soon as I saw it.
It looks absolutely beautiful. I love the whole 1980s Calculator aesthetic. But 64 MB? And don’t get me started on broken speakers and faders straight out of the box,
I say this as a teenage engineering fanboy too (before they started selling $1500 tables, I mean)
Michael I just wanna say thanks for always sharing your knowledge you've always remind me that we don't need gears to create, just a DAW and how to properly utilize it
That Cuckoo's intro killed me man 😂
This man is a saint out here saving all of us fools from ourselves with his words of wisdom.
When they released it, I thought: What’s special about this one. And you’re right: Nothing. 😅
God bless you Michael. You do a public service sir.
Some wisdom shared. Wow.
You said something that you are absolutely right, most of us who pass by here should focus more on improving musical skills instead of buying more gadgets to do more or less the same.
+1 to this: 4:53 "It's just a good-looking toy, makes you feel good while pressing the buttons. If you want to make music, then you should make music... and put your time and effort on improving your skills." I love toys, but the EP-133 KO-2 seems like it's only for making quick low-effort beats, and I'd rather use something designed for actually producing complete songs.
I didn't give up on my musical dreams and take a visual art career to skimp on gear dammit! (You are totally right as usual but I think my wife has trumped us both this Xmas)
Thank you for dunking on good-looking trash from companies like teenage engineering. I can now save money and make music instead ✨
Cheers from Guandong! You rock!
Im totally with u when u say “better improve your skills” and overall this GaS thing. Thank u for that sobriety!
But!
I guess why I dont see anybody who making solid stylish creative music with koala? I mean, if I can pick up top 100 beatmakers, chances to meet someone with koala is close to zero. Why?
Totally agree bro, I got a pocket full of money and this doesn't gas me at all. Good video
this is great advice to not buy lots of synth or music gear. The Virus TI2 was one of the greatest hardware all in one synths in a box outside of working just ITB in a DAW.
I agree but i understand many people got the PO K.O for the portability and having a small and portable device with physical buttons and potentiometers you instead of another app I'm your phone. I don't think portability is a key feature of the K.O II and I will totally try koalas. Thank you for sharing
Yes, a cool hardware device can inspire you to create. However, people are great at lying to themselves about their decisions. I think it is very difficult for people to be able to differentiate between a genuine inspiration that a device *might* provide and a simple craving to buy a shiny new toy. It's usually a craving to buy a shiny new toy. GAS is real in the music and photographer community. Some people are able to honestly admit that they are suffering from GAS, but many people will rationalize their craving-driven purchases instead.
Id agree the ep-133 is basically a toy but I bought it knowing that, and judging it on that basis ive had a lot of fun messing around with it
I was as gassing over this box but you and Koala saved the day. Thanks 👍
stuff like koala gives old phones a new purpose haha dedicated sampler and sample/best of everything collection etc. also the touchscreens and displays are still amazing. also your content is amazing keep us on the wright path haha:)
As always, thanks for speaking common sense that people need to hear. The anti-capitalist hero we need.
Gracias bro estos vídeos son necesarios y aportan un gran valor. Ojalá Koala pueda esponsorear tu gran trabajo!
Love the toaster in the back. KO roast!
So heres the thing. This is an instrument and should be treated with the same expectations as one. It's like saying why buy a guitar, I can make all the guitar sounds on my DAW for free with my keyboard. Everyone would agree it's not the same thing. At the same time to make good music with anything you need talent, skill and patience. Regarding mixing and mastering, 99% percent of people will need a profesional to do this properly for them. Which obviously costs money. So even with a $1000 phone, a $2000ipad, $2500mbp a free app or a $600 DAW, music will still cost additional money on top of that to be legitemately produced. For the average consumer, all these programs, applications and instruments will be just toys anyway.
Thanks for remind us to control our gear acquisition syndrome
thanks so much Michael for those videos! greetings from italy
As soon as I saw this product and the price and heard everyone saying "what a bargain!", I could here you saying "too much!". And I tend to agree. :) Although you couldn't find a good way emulate a broken fader with software. 😅
Yes! Finally someone said the truth. Don't spend your time and money trying to find better tools... work on improving your skillset as a musician.
I agree 100%
Koala is AWESOME!!!
This is your best video yet Michael!
best channel on synth tube
I needed that . The GAS has passed
Koala Sampler plus free Synth One by Audiokit and you have a hell of possibilities to be creative.
Had exactly the same thought, glad I could avoid the gas purchase
I’ve been making music off and on for 20 years. And you are absolutely right. Social is full of product videos masquerading as reviews though.
I use Koala Sampler everyday and I was dead set on buying an SP404. Then came the EP 133 which is less expensive and cool looking so I thought I would buy the EP 133 instead. After watching this video I've changed my mind. Apparently koala is all I need. Thank you.
haven't even watched it yet... but YESSSSSSS! you're back!!!
You're the best cure for my crazy GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). I always think that a new 'toy' will make me able to make music... but need to just make it with what I've got.
Loving the lofi girl cosplay at the end 😂 🎧
🤔
I watched an in-depth review of the K.O.II by Cuckoo few days. Although i love watching Cuckoo’s review, even he cant save me from clicking off the video due to how clunky the K.O.II workflow is.
This comment is like yesterday once more 😅
Thank you for continuing to make videos for this series!
was thinking ,He will talk bout KOALA , and BOOM !!!!! yes on many point far the best machine weither on a tablet or + a midi controler
Been subscribed a long time. I don’t need to know…but your vids are a wonderful and welcome reminder to focus on creation and beauty and music rather than spending money on hardware…especially if it takes one back in some form or another.
Pretty funny how your older MacBook and my standard 2020 iPad have far more options and capabilities than these overpriced things which do so far less with little to nothing that’s above.
Yes. Let’s focus on creativity and music first. First. Always first!
Keep creating and challenging, brother! I’m…WE are loving it! 🙂
Wow... I wasn't even aware that Koala Sampler is available for PC and MAC! 😳😳
Thanks for sharing! 😎
I was waiting for this video. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Man legit therapy I needed, and them Hollywood transitions at the start.. phew
The Koala updates are AWESOME!!! The Mixer and Important libraries are fantastic 👍✨
I totally agree with your assertion that the K.O.II is an overhyped feelgood toy. Koala popped into my head right away! 😂 I've been using FL Studio Mobile a lot lately as well. Between the two, the possibilities are endless ✌️😮
I'm a victim of Fader gate, I downloaded the samples and now I'm going to return.
I do like how the device is quick and easy to use, the keyboard click and playing is very satisfying, it's very intuitive and the punch in FX are the best thing the KO II has going for it imo.
Cons are high other than the faulty faders, no resample, theres only 64 MB of memory no storage slot, theres only 6 stereo/12 mono poly.
When it works it feels great but when it doesn't its clunky and it shows.
TE gear is about limitations and if you need limitations to be creative we as creative people can set these parameters by ourselves and can do that with the gear we already have.
All in all, I don't think I'll ever buy another piece of gear from TE again.
Just stop falling for the hype, GAS, and FOMO buying new toy samplers in this day, and age.
Yoooo! I'm so glad to find you, brother. Michael is keeping it real 💯. 🔥🔥🔥
In my view, having a hardware sampler is not a comparison with what you can or can't do in software, it's a feeling of playing on an instrument, which you lack when you're using a software.
THE LEGEND RETURNS
You forgot to put a picture of Buster Douglas on your computer desktop wallpaper to complete the effect.
Designers: Design
Engineers: Produce
Factories: Manufacture
Employees: Spent hourless days to work, so people get a hand on the device
Cargo: Delivers the device to your door.
You: You just complain and promote 4 dollar app with your camera and your 2K Mac Book whatever the model is and your lame accent. Congrats, you have solved the Big Uknown. You are a the Greatest UA-camr and ticking all the boxes.
If you want to support them, buy their products, comment doesn't help anyone.
You are on the Music Radar front page, you have succeded by crapping other people’s honest effort to make living, are you happy now? No one will remember you in a year or two, but TE has been making gear for over a decade. Now, go play with your mac book’s plastic keys and don’t erase my comments.
You can't replicate the novelty of getting a new hardware with a laptop
I would never choose an app or vst over playing an actual instrument
Welcome back
Bless. Your videos are dope af
So....using a computer/app is your answer? I thought the whole point of things like TA’s gear was to get away from that
But the ko 2 and OP are both apps too, the only difference is that they are apps with a midi controller built around it !
A well designed , musical and enjoyable interface, which makes all the difference
Koala sampler is amazing
Waiting for this one! X
Cool video. I agree with a lot of what you say. To the using of the computer keyboard, i have tried countless times over the years and
use it for auditioning sounds for a few seconds but if i want to play a melody i will use my external midi keyboard.
The computer keys dont feel good to me if i play more than one note. The tactile feeling .
For the Koala i can imagine the akai mpd 218 pad controller as being the perfect partner and you can get it relatively cheap used i suppose.
Its an amazing controller if you want to play with samplers.
I understand people that want to use something like the ko 133 . It is the idea using a dedicated hardware for the tactile feeling.
Teenage engineering is a weird company that i am not supporting but i get the appeal and design.
I share your view that you can use anything to make music.
The defining instrument is ones own mindset after all
I use the MPD218 with koala! It's perfect for it, a go to combo for me to jam or just catalogue samples
I'm tired of working 8 hours a day with a laptop in front of my face and when I get home I don't feel like a computer anymore so I prefer to buy devices like this one you criticize or an SP-404, Elektron etc. As simple as that. Greetings!.
Totally feel you, after bought everything you mentioned, I got tired of repeating myself learning how to do the same old tricks on different gear.
You can’t teach a new trick to an old dog😂
If you get a proper device, it is a tremendous piece of gear. It looks amazing and it’s inspiring to make music on it. You need to hold it in ur hand to know what I mean. I watch on my Screen 10 hours a day. That’s enough. I love my K.O. 2
I have it...Koala is pretty cool.
5:10 This guy has sense
I wonder if there's a picture of Michael pinned to a bulletin board in the back office of every hardware synth/sampler company, while cigar smoking bearded hipsters try to figure out what to do about him.
I actually agree with this one, I am a TE hater really lol, i dont want to be, i thought this ko2 looked pretty cool, but ive seen lots of problems with it, and i hate the workflow. I love my sp404mk2 and it does way more and it jives with me and I can just throw it in my backpack and go play a show without worrying that my laptop is going to crash or need an update or something like that
plus live shows on a laptop are usually pretty boring, i like setting up right in the middle of the venue and being surrounded by the sparse crowd and taking my free drink tickets and going home hahaha
the final point was, you might think that you learn stuff from a new synth or whatever
that is definitely the case, learning all the ways in my diy synth journey has made me a much better musician that i definitely wouldnt have been without building each block and learning every little part of it
I think it was worth the cost for some of it, I definitely think most of this stuff can be done with one or two synths, or as you say playpm "for free" haha
I also hate being at a computer all day for work and then going to make music and have fun on a computer
For me is just a big screen or small screen thing in my brain now 😄
@@playpm haha
Thanks for the reminder to build skills vs buy unskilled builds.
yes `KoalamSampler is great I love it when I travel
I mean, you're eliminating the appeal of NOT being in front of a computer to make music, which is a different creative process in most people's experience. Functionality fine, but a functioning box for only 299 is pretty cool. Niche, but cool
Dude I love you 💪🏼
I love this channel.
