You know, other survivors might actually be the bigger issue. In most zombie lore I've read, zombies sort of fade into the background as one more dangerous thing in the world. They are predictable and hence manageable. They can be deceived, tripped up, captured and dealt with. They have a single motivation, and that is to feed. They make no plans. Most of them, at least. People, on the other hand, make plans, and that makes them infinitely more dangerous. And people able to survive the first period of an outbreak will no doubt be more ferocious, more aggressive, tenacious and straight up more dangerous than 90% of the ones that ended up as walking dead. The zombie outbreaks distills the badassery of human kind to 90% proof.
It's still smarter than all the people putting tremendous amounts of thought into a "bugout bag"... and spending money building a "bugout vehicle"... and yet, have given zero consideration to "where they will 'bugout' to".
A little off the topic but you hear a lot of folks say "I'll just go to the woods to hide out and live off the land". Those woods are going to be mighty crowded and there isn't enough game to support all those people. It would take at least one growing season if you plant crops and then you you're dependent on the weather. "Bug out bags" and "bugout vehicles" are only good for getting you home from work. The ideal situation (besides not needing it) is to fortify your home. Stock up on food, have large containers of water, have a way to purify water and have solar/wind generators and industrial batteries. Your home also has to be secure, because if you have it, and others don't they'll try to take it eventually. In about 90 days, things will have shaken out. If you're lucky, you'll have some neighbors who are like minded and you can work together. Strength in numbers.
The tiny house on the island was built and owned by a sheep farmer and his wife a long time ago (60s-70s I think), it has electricity via generator too. Bjork does own it but I can't speak to whether or not she lives there. I got to visit the island when I went to Iceland a few years ago, we were able to look at the house from a short distance but couldn't go inside or get too close.

I'd make a house on Alcatraz Island. Plenty of space to farm, great strong structure, multiple ways to escape by boat or helicopter, can fish right from home, have guard towers to pick off whatever zombie may have gotten onto the island which is very doubtful. Seems like the perfect spot.

The first house is actually a brilliant idea for seasonal homes, although with a bit less concrete and steel, it’s sort of storm shutters on steroids. If you build a home/cabin in a largely vacation community, that will sit empty most of the year, a feature like this would be great. Think about it, at the end of the season, you shut everything down than turn a key and watch as concrete slabs cover all the windows and doors, thus protecting them not only from intruders but also from Mother Nature. Maybe include a solar panel powered ventilator on the roof to move a small, but constant amount of air through the structure to keep it from getting stale and the odor soaking into the fabrics used around the house. The reason I saw have that solar powered is firstly it wouldn’t be needed during the winter, at least in northern climates, but also because that would allow you to completely shutdown the power to the home, while a panel or small array would provide plenty of power to move some air when it’s sunny out, and your only electrical concern could be isolated on the roof, and made in such a way that even if the entire circuit fried and melted it wouldn’t catch the main structure on fire.

Not really because most are not self sustainable (creates it's own food, energy, water, climate). Most of these Houses would be SOL in a power outage or without a mode of transportation. They turn into coffins. Money doesn't do much in cyber, biological or energy attack. Zombies would be easier.

4:56 That's a puffin hunting lodge, though you did get the island right. Bjork also was in the negotiation to buy an island of the same name, but dropped out.
The seed vault is great temporarily and to get seeds but unless you have renewable power and grow lights you aren't growing much if you stay there. The skyscraper with trees isn't keeping zombies out unless you need to climb to access the building. The zombies will enter the same way that humans enter any high rise...
I feel like MOST zombie-proof houses are missing two essential-for-survival aspects: One is a solar grid. These houses that lockdown are awesome, but they're essentially ovens with no air circulation. Solar panels or a solar grid are vital. Then there's the absolute need for a MASSIVE propane tank.
Id want to live in the seed vault. I have always wanted all the best foods plants from around the world in one garden with the best fish, game and farm animal varieties. Save trees of value too and then let people see it as a tour of what is worth saving in our world. Though I would say if I had to live in an apartment complex again having one made from scrubbing concrete that purified the air and hand edible landscaping and an internal fishery would be an easy sell too.
I'd either want the vertical forest because it is purpose-built to allow for agriculture--ie. a steady food source--or the maunsell forts after a major restoration project because their design and location doubles their inaccessibility, plus there's the opportunity to convert specific buildings to specific needs, including a survivalist garden.
The vertical forest would be a shriveled waste after electricity/water became in short supply. The forts would be about 120' below water level if the land ice melted.
I just saw a terrible idea the green waste management and maintenance 10 stories high fall constantly having windows grown over big problem with security anyone who can climb a tree can be at your window this idea will fail
Don't underestimate plant roots. They even eat away through bricks and concrete over time and will break through roofs and such, and they will breed insects and other creatures that find shelters in trees, so this vertical garden plan is honestly unfeasible in the long term. Unless you're fully enshrouded in an equally tall and wide glass structure that functions as a green house, your wide open vertical garden apartment will only invite more tenants than just yourself.
@@SecretSquirrelHD I didn't catch which way they opened, inwards or outwards. If inwards, then perhaps there is the possibility of a mussel-powered mechanical mechanism that would open a several-ton door. If outwards, then debris could prevent that. Either way, "sure" is not a term I'd use. But perhaps.
As for Bjork’s house on the little green island, perhaps the real abode is built underneath the tiny dwelling that sits on the hillside, with no electricity, nor running water.
Imagine thinking your about to survive the apocalypse only for something to go extremely wrong, now your locked in & stranded in your own creation 🤦🏾♀️
I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY BUILD AND HOW ITS BUILT WHEN THE DEATH ANGEL COME YOU CANT KEEP HIM OUT NO MATTER HOW HIGH IN THE AIR YOU ARE OR DEEP IN THE EARTH LETS PRAY FOR EACH OTHER AND KEEP JESUS FIRST REMEMBER HE'S IN CHARGE WITH HIM BY YOUR SIDE YOU DONT HALF TO RUN OR HIDE .
God won't save u lol, if u think u can't stop anything, u won't stop anything, people like u will not last long in any apocalyptic situation, not saying anything apocalyptic will happen but if it does that mindset is stupid asf
The "urban vertical forest". I like the common sense idea. I just hope they follow through and make sure the buildings can handle the additional weight of so many plants, trees and tons of wet/damp soil. Italy is prone to earthquakes, especially near its volcanos. I'd hate for it to just be more death raining down.
Milan is a fairly safe city from an earthquake point of view, it is located in the middle of the Po Valley whose subsoil is sandy / clayey, this type of soil softens and absorbs earthquakes, and their propagation waves . As for volcanoes, the closest active volcano is located in Naples at about 800 km. (500 miles) far away.
Thinking that a urban "forest" could sustain you is stupid, most crops yield once or twice a year an that balcony garden is not going to feed you trough the year.
@@HakkaDakka I don't think the idea is total self-sufficiency, but being able to take on a a lot of their own needs to lower the cost of living there. It's going to be an expensive place to live unless they produce a lot of their own food. Free fruits, nuts and veggies can ease a budget quite a bit.
Quick question, for number 15; if they had no electricity, how they gonna get out of the house? Judging from the looks, looks like it’s all connected to a power source that controls when he opens them and closes the walls
I can imagine the conversations between the architects would have been funny. "We need to make the window shutters thicker because we don't want zombies bashing it to pieces and gaining entry...." LOL
When most people say zombies they are talking about unprepared people when SHTF starving sick and possibly injuried fighting for their lives zombies will look like a joke compared to people whom see their children starving
Is it just me or is it because of todays housing market that the costs of these places are way too cheap. I've seen basic two story houses go for $1.9-$2.5mill and not be in some crazy city.
What you guys don't understand is that more high tech the house, the more it becomes irreverent in post apocalyptic scenario, because any error or dysfunction will require specialised tools and trained professionals to repair it. The ideal survival house should be underground or buit into a cliff with easy access to a water source with a single point entry and a emergency exist. Vents should be secured and should be able to shut off in case of any toxic gas leakage, an indoor air tank for temporary use. To withstand nukes, you probably need a house deep underground or inside mountain and lead layer plus thick concrete walls to keep it radiation proof. The Mechanical system should be simple and be designed in such a way that repairs are easy and accessible. Spare parts should be stockpiled too, also need a huge storage space to keep food, kerosene and other essentials. Also you might have keep something like a insect or livestock or fish farms to recycle your wastes to food. Solar or wind power is no go as it requires you to go above ground or outside for service. So only generators are only choice for power, maybe if you have access to underground water stream, you can generate hydroelectric power and geothermal power is another option. Manual controls wherever possible, anything digital is prone to lifecycle limit. Also you need a basic surveillance system to indoors and outdoors. Plus you need some kind of panic room in case your base gets broken into. If constructed, it would be ideal survival setup.
The house of „bjork“ is actually a house for bird scientists. And there are 2 houses on that island. Besides that it has running water and everything you need to life.
I'm a sailor and been out on boats for weeks at a time. On a boat, you are very limited as far as supplies and everything breaks on boats. You are really tied to the next port for parts to repair what broke on the last passage. That plus in a SHTF situation, every other boat will be short on supplies and looking to pirate other boats so be ready to defend. Long term, it's not viable but for 3-6 weeks it might be fine if the turmoil settles in that time. Get way offshore, turn off your AIS, take down your radar reflector and hope all the power boats burn up all their fuel.
From an engineering perspective (it's a curse being one sometimes) What are you going to do about the root growth through the walls and structure once those trees get a certain size? You can't dig them up, trim the roots and replant. Nice concept but the amount of problems this will cause idk is sustainable. Time will tell.

Bjorks house is am attenpyed at a settlement by a few families that didn't work out and is now a privately owned puffin hunting cabin and vacation house owned by the same few families. Totally false on this guys account.
Is that because it depends on electricity which then would not be avaliable in post apocalyptic era because all power plants would shut down and probably leak radiation

I see three times where images form various houses by the same architect are shown like they're the same, single place.
Then there's the absolute need for a MASSIVE propane tank.
except the propane tank would eventually deplete.
@@companyoflosers Yeah, but better to have it than not to.
The best house to survive a zmombie alpaca-lips?
A boat.
My 1st thought as well.
But have you ever seen Alderney Island? More forts per square mile than anywhere else.
Sorry ? The best house to survive a ...what...?? I want whatever you’re drinking !
I think it's weird and creepy when you threaten everyone for not liking or subscribing to the show ...
" Slenderman, spiders " really dude !?!?
If Zombie outbreak ever happens, its the humans you need to prepare for.
I think that the houses with electronically controlled concrete slabs closing on windows and doors can easily become a trap itself. :D
Yup. Without power the technical term would be "mausoleum".
@@drususmaior1641 Im sure they can be opened and closed with mechanical gears.
They need to rename this video to " The Hobbies of people with more money than brains"......
I was thinking the same thing!!!
Free fruits, nuts and veggies can ease a budget quite a bit.
the golden rule with prepping is dont let anyone know your doing it. if i knew someone that had supplies id just force them to share with me
*Vault-Tec: Pfft... hold my Pipboy.*
haha shit...hahaha the comment was better than the video.. xD
Quick question, for number 15; if they had no electricity, how they gonna get out of the house? Judging from the looks, looks like it’s all connected to a power source that controls when he opens them and closes the walls
Generators, mechanical levers…
The river Thames is pronounced 'Temms' not 'Th-aims'...
Plot twist:
They got bitten and died on the way to their "zombie proof" house
How can I regret not seeing something that I haven't seen?
"When Excrement hits the room cooling device" alright I'm using that in the future when I want to say "when shit hits the fan" properly.
2:20 that looks like Kielder reservoir valve tower in Hexham uk
I can imagine the conversations between the architects would have been funny. "We need to make the window shutters thicker because we don't want zombies bashing it to pieces and gaining entry...." LOL
cool houses, better than the sarcastic narrator
What an eyesore for that beautiful landscape @3:15
There is a much greater chance of getting harmed by other humans than zombies
When most people say zombies they are talking about unprepared people when SHTF starving sick and possibly injuried fighting for their lives zombies will look like a joke compared to people whom see their children starving
When you hear me call out? Kick the wall out and crawl out through the fallout back to me!
Is it just me or is it because of todays housing market that the costs of these places are way too cheap. I've seen basic two story houses go for $1.9-$2.5mill and not be in some crazy city.
Why am I watching zombie apocalypse safe homes in the middle of the night? How did I get here
So most of these were not houses or zombie apocalypse approved. SMH

2:07 “i sleep on an air mattress as of last night lmao”
Survival experts have looked at some of these "crazy" people and found that they are prepared just about any kind of emergency situation
The house of „bjork“ is actually a house for bird scientists. And there are 2 houses on that island. Besides that it has running water and everything you need to life.
“When the dead rises”?? I didn’t think rise was plural.
Right!
This creator of this video is proof positive that zombies do exist .
How about a sailing ship? It would be a mobile home that is very hard to reach for anyone that does not have a boat or can't swim at inhuman speeds.
Ok, so in short, not a good idea.
Good video.
The WWII forts off the coast od Britain are so cool, that's the type of place I'd like. Close to the land & can fish.
Safe zombie proof houses don't matter. All the safer communities fall whenever the main characters join the community.
#2, the tree apartment building. I imagine the residents probably have an issue with spiders getting in their houses at an alarming rate.
I love the eskimo pod house! Cool.
From an engineering perspective (it's a curse being one sometimes) What are you going to do about the root growth through the walls and structure once those trees get a certain size? You can't dig them up, trim the roots and replant. Nice concept but the amount of problems this will cause idk is sustainable. Time will tell.
The zombie spiders are more of a concern. 😂
Premise 😂
Ingenuity 😁👍🏼
I’d be more worried about flooding!
850,000 dollars? Thats like a majority of the houses in NY nowadays
Same in Atlanta... when he said "out of your price range" I was thinking multi millions. 850,000 is pricey but not insane.
Well, that's 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back.
Bjork did not dress as a swan, she dressed IN a swan, With a swan. That's a whole nother level of insanity LOL
@0:14 had a drill sergeant at basic training announce loudly "gentlemen, the fecal matter has hit the rotary device" right before he fucked us up because someone had a candy wrapper 😢😂
Bjorks house is am attenpyed at a settlement by a few families that didn't work out and is now a privately owned puffin hunting cabin and vacation house owned by the same few families. Totally false on this guys account.
Puffin hunting! Now that sounds very dangerous , count me out
everybody gangsta until the zombies strat digging
first house....the roll down steel door is a serious weak spot..
Is that because it depends on electricity which then would not be avaliable in post apocalyptic era because all power plants would shut down and probably leak radiation
@@pianoman1379 no generator would fix that.i mean that door could easily be forced then theres only glass to get through.
It's not that Ill regret it if I don't see any but I regret even clicking on the video 😂 duuude you can make anything zombie proof, literally anything
Asking for likes at the start of a video just makes me hit dislike
Man I love Bjork...shes so unusual but cool!...wish I had a place like it so peaceful and spiritually beautiful
