It’s interesting how Gypsy is getting a positive perception from the public and getting all these interviews but they couldn’t offer that same treatment when it came to that black Hispanic lady that killed her assualter out of self defense. She wasn’t treated the same way that Gypsy is getting and it speaks volumes

I honestly feel extremely sorry for Gypsy Rose. She was in a horrible situation, and she tried to run away and called the police several times, only to be severely punished by her mother. Gypsy obviously regrets having to resort to matricide, but she saw no other viable options. I honestly wish her the very best going forward.

I’m gonna stop you right there.. “she didn’t see any other viable options” **in the moment** emphasis on that.. watch more of her interviews. She says it herself, that there are other ways she could have gotten out of the life she was living, but she was too scared to take action on any other viable option. She damn sure could have disappeared from her mom’s life and exposed EVERYTHING she put her own daughter through, for her entire life.. she could have gotten media involved and I’m sure she would have gotten help from many outside sources. Look at what the internet is doing for her now, and has been doing for many people for years now… she definitely could have gotten out, without having someone off her mother.

She admits that she NOW knows there’s other ways she could have gone about it but I recall her saying multiple times that she felt like her mother would find her if she ran away and that her mom had gotten paperwork declaring Gypsy incompetent so Gypsy believed no one would believe her.

this whole situation is weird. while it's great to see a victim of abuse/the system getting justice, I feel like people are starting to use it to romanticize her story, what she's been through, and what she did. people are using a real life horrific story to feed their parasocial loneliness and delusions, and as understandable as it is it's still concerning, unhealthy and sad. rose is not a "girl boss slay queen" she's a victim/survivor...

@@Venus._x romanticising it by watering it down to some "slay queen" legendary moment in time, when it was deeply traumatic for rose, and when she's said time and time again that she isnt happy she killed her mother and aided in it out of desperation. there's a balancing act when it comes to responding to trauma in a tactful, supportive and productive way. it's important we don't trivialize survivor's experience and inact shame/blame on them. but it's also important that we don't chalk their experiences up to them being goddlike, iconic and glamorous, because that again strips away the humanity and severity of the situation and how they've been impacted by it. I feel like alot of people are taking the latter approach to rose's situation

This is such a weird phenomenon come to life. True crime is such a strange genre to me to the point of being unethical majority of the time. I think Gypsy is the "perfect victim". She's still alive, unlike many of the other young white women true obsessed over. Her experience sounds unique and "new" to the public eye. And there are clear cut "villians" in her story, being her mom and her ex boyfriend. She also sits in a unique position of being a victim twice, that of the justice system (depends on your viewpoint tbh) and the crimes her mother committed against her. Now she's out of jail and seems relatable enough to capture the attention of young people in desperate need of a new parasocial relationship

Let’s not forget that her mother also pulled her out of school very early and convinced her and everyone else that she would forever have the mind of a 7-year-old child. Only bought her childlike clothes, had her watching disney movies, kept her from making close friends, etc.. Meanwhile she’s actually a woman in her early 20s with the wants and urges of anyone else that age… feeling that natural desire for independence but living as a disabled little girl. I really can’t imagine what that must do to a person’s mind. So considering that on top of the horrific medical/physical abuse, it’s not shocking to me that everything ended so horrifically. And because she was so isolated for such a long time, I’m not surprised that she’s relishing in all the attention or that she was so eager to jump into a relationship. Or that her behavior is “cringey”. She’s living in the real world for the first time and she’s in her 30s like damn. I wish her the best and I really can’t judge her because I have no idea what it is like to go through what she went through. Honestly I don’t think this is as “cult-like” as a lot of people seem to believe. We as a people are clowns and a lot of this is just meme-culture/stan-culture clownery. In a couple weeks, the majority of the internet will be onto the next thing. If we didn’t already know about her from the documentaries and the Joey king movie, she wouldn’t be getting this much attention.

She wasn’t in a “really unfortunate situation”, she endured absolutely HORRENDOUS childhood abuse. This whole situation blew up due to an in-depth piece from buzzfeed (when it was a whole thing) and led to was major news coverage, and not just tge critically acclaimed series The Act on Hulu, but another critically lauded HBO film and that doesn’t include all the random true crime shit OR the deluge of UA-cam essays over the years. I think Gen Z in particular is so worn down from the constant negativity of the world that seeing someone overcome something so traumatic feels like a win and inspires hope. It’s especially meaningful to those who endured parental abuse, even if it’s different. In a way, she signifies that in a world where everyone lets you down, you still have the ability to make a change. Is it incredibly messed up that this is the story people are latching on to? Yeah, absolutely. But is it understandable given the current climate of the world? I think so. I would love to see the trend of glorifying crime go away in favor of healthier forms standing up to oppression, but they’re not always as flashy as things like matricide.

It’s why I hate when we as millennials dump on Gen Z. I don’t feel like we put in enough effort to understand you all, and instead we make trauma dumping on your already trauma taxed generation a sport-like all of our timelines aren’t already the embers burning the flames of hell.
Actually finding pearls of joy on this spinning 3rd rock from the sun is a healthy way to operate in the midst of this planetary chaos. I remember a world before social media, when our TVs would go off and we COULD disconnect. If you were born after 2000, you know nothing of that.

I feel like a lot of her attention comes from sympathy. She was this young, healthy girl convinced that she was sick by the person who is supposed to care the most about her. Of course there is racial bias + the numerous drama series that have been made on the Gypsy Rose situation. I am happy she is living her life, that she IS NOT glorifying what she did, and is overall (so far) being realistic and normal. The entire situation is insane and I am happy she is finally getting to live HER TRUTH -- I hope she can take the opportunity to shine a light on other former convicts who had to __ in order to escape a seemingly never ending tunnel of despair. She's got the platform now, and it would be amazing to see her talk about the hispanic woman who __ her assaulter -- there are many racial biases and disparities. More than anything I hope her story does not make weirdos out there commit __ because they see this life that GR now has.
I wish her the best and I hope she spreads positivity.

i feel like part of her positive reception compared to other cases mentioned in comments, she wasn’t escaping an abusive partner, she was escaping an abusive parent. a recent point of discussion among gen z, myself and my close circles included are our relationships with our parents and parenting in general. you see it a lot on all platforms, people talking about how they had toxic and abusive parents, people trying to raise their kids differently, people calling out content creators and people for being bad parents and etc. parenting and the effects of children with bad parents vs good parents have been a hot topic among gen z and millennials as of recent years so the reason why a lot of people are able to sympathize with her in a few ways is maybe not as extreme as she went through but they see traits of their own story in hers. even i myself can say i find similarities with her story in comparison to mine and my mom’s relationship, granted mine on the opposite spectrum while being extremely ill but having a medically negligent mother to the point of leading to more extreme complications. there’s a strong dislike and distancing and disconnect from our parents when you look among gen z and millennials. many see her story as a sort of “win” and underdog story where she finally was able to escape her abusive parent and is now getting a chance at life. and the reason why they are making bucket lists and such is again they connect with her and when you find a connection with someone you start seeking more ways to bond and connect with them. there’s a few more i could go on about but that’s the basic gist of how ive perceived it and ive had friends and others on tiktok make a similar point

the last ex-con I remember getting a lot of media attention was Jeremy Meeks aka “prison bae” - but once again, he was pretty privileged because he has lighter skin and he is conventionally attractive, which is what allowed him to get modeling deals and see success once he was released. and he wasn’t even a victim either lol he did some real crimes

Personally as someone who was abused similarly... this is why I'll never tell my story publicly.
People never care about the abuse when it's happening. They turn a blind eye because it's too much of an inconvenience to their own lives. The moment that the person being abused is out of their situation people only then will sympathize and show support conditionally... but the truth is its not even that. It's entertainment. Sure it might not be enjoyable in the same way... but humans just have this weird fascination with bad things as long as it's the "right" kind of bad. Gypsies story has a "happy ending" that was already capitalized on by media outlets. People see this as nothing more than a catch up similarly to reality TV.
Hopefully gypsy realizes this and doesn't let it go to her head. The moment she slips up one bit people will change their emotions in a switch of a second.
Its really disgusting behavior and I have no idea why this is normalized.

You know, I know a lot of wheelchair users don’t like the term “wheelchair bound”, because it implies being stuck or trapped when their wheelchair actually gives them freedom and mobility that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
But I feel like in this context, it’s fitting, because she legitimately did not need it. She *was* being bound to lessened mobility, as she’s always had functional legs.

I love how you cover topics about Gen Z, like looking at how we do both good and bad things, the way that we are lol. Also, i can understand why people who find her story so interesting and her personality captivating who would want to follow her and give her that fame. I just hope she gets to have a decent chance at life after all the abuse tbh. I don’t care if she’s famous or not but I do appreciate her story being out for the public to witness. I’ll admit, it’s quite interesting, educational, and entertaining (though the ethics of someone else’s trauma being a form of entertainment… that’s certainly a debatable topic).

One thing I will say is that her story is quite interesting. What I appreciate about her social media is that she’s promoting mental health awareness now because of it serious implications on the life’s of others. Mental health can make or break someone’s life and hurt others and her case really showed that.

It's honestly disgusting.

I feel like alot of people dont really understand her as a person and the complexities she holds. She was absolutely a victim in every way. However, she also holds a lot of the attributes she learned from her mother, such as the manipulation, lying, etc. Those are all traits that she needs to fix and get therapy for in order to heal. People are infantilizing her when she is a grown woman. Even if she didn't do the actual act, she is still a killer. She manipulated her bf to kill someone and planned it. She is no different than other killers hence why I dont understand why people are glorifying her story. She needs to step away from the light for a while.
