So this is going to be a huge wall of text, but I really feel like I need to write this down, so bear with me. Exactly a year ago, in early 2023, I was going through a VERY rough patch in my life. I had broken up with my girlfriend in the summer of 2022, who was practically my only friend, and I was practically alone. My autism (undiagnosed at the time I'm speaking of) made it very difficult for me to connect with people or have any kind of relationship all my life, and the various people I had met (especially during these years studying at university) ended up distancing themselves from me or just started ignoring me. One that especially hurt was a guy (who I had a bit of a crush on, ngl), with whom I thought I was forming a good friendship until he began to ignore me, and ghosted me.
All this loneliness led me to a very depressive state throughout the first half of last year, and I fell back into old habits (self-harm, alcohol). It was then, in April, that I decided (I don't remember why) to replay Max Payne 3, to try getting the 100%. If you haven't played it, there's an extra mode called "New York Minute Hardcore," which is basically completing the entire game in one go on the highest difficulty without dying, which as you can imagine, wouldn't be easy. I remember spending 2 weeks playing every night, trying that challenge on various runs, just alone my thoughts, some beer and especially music, listening to bands like Uncle Acid, The Smiths, and King Crimson. That's when I found your music (it probably appeared in my recommendations) and especially this song, which resonated too much with me. In the end, on April 16th, I managed to beat Max Payne 3 without dying. I remember the last level, the airport, with this song playing on loop, so freaking well. Those experiences and those two weeks were really something to me, so cathartic. Managing to do that challenge really motivated me to finish that year at college and your music was part of it.
But this story didn’t end there. That summer was the best of my life. I got diagnosed with ASD and I met some friends, two women who are two of the best people I've ever met, who became very close to me (one of them is now my best friend) and have accepted me for who I am. However, in November, one of them went to Germany. She's still there and will be for an indefinite time, although she visited this week and I was able to spend time with her. I'm not alone now, of course, but in March and April of this year, some sadness has returned to me, perhaps because of the stress of college. Curiously, last week UA-cam recommended your music to me again, which I hardly listened to since "that" time, and THIS particular song. And today, April 4th, now that she has returned to Germany, my best friend has been busy all day and it seems like I'm back to exactly where I was a year ago (not literally, of course), I reinstalled Max Payne 3 and played New York Minute Hardcore again, and surprisingly I did it on the first run. When I reached the last level, I put this song on loop, and I just went with it. It was awesome and it made me feel so good again, especially that the song ended just as I finished the level in-game, perfectly syncing. So now I feel like I can take the next 2 months until summer, pushing through my finals and onto better times.
So, thank you for your music, it has meant so much to me. I related to those feelings of loneliness, sadness, and hopelessness. If I survived last year, I will survive this one, and you played a part in it. (btw, sorry if there were any errors, i’m not a native speaker).
