I had a 94 FC600 for over 10 years, loved it - it could climb a tree and I could kick start with my arm in gnarly situations. I had it rebuilt by a factory mechanic who lived on the west coast, I forget his name now. After that it ran so good. I had custom radiator guards made, bought the extra fuel cell, big gun exhaust, and street legalized it with a capacitor - had an AC circuit for the headlight to keep it bright, and DC circuit for the blinkers and brake light. But it had one serious flaw that caused me to get rid of it in the end. I wish I still had it, but at the time when it wouldn't start again - I was fed up dealing with the stator issue. The big problem was the stator was mounted to the engine case, so it easily overheated and failed. I went through 4 stators and they were getting hard to find. I used Guy Cooper's trick to vent the stator case into the air box, that helped - but didn't solve the problem.

In my opinion, the only brand that still stays true to its name is TM racing out of Italy. They are still being hand built. Regarding your comment on brands being reborn but not the same as they were before, gasgas is unfortunately another brand which has been ruined. They were at the height of the competition in the 2000's across trials and enduro. So sad......😢
TM Racing are a special bunch. and I know they dont build the engines themselves but AJP do a pretty good job too, and in another niche you could say CCM might fit, but independant companies are on the decline these days, the days of the specialists seem to be numbered as they say
This footage tells it how it is ❤ rode myself a 92 350 fe,93 350 fe, 94 95 96 97 98 600 fc and in 2003 04 05 a 550 fc. Loved every lap on it. Eyes out of your socket power!
I have a habit of finding and keeping brands of bikes that were founded by disgruntled engineers with no business sense. 😂 I have had a 2005 Gas Gas 200 for a long time and a Buell 1125CR so when i wanted to add a 4 stroke dirt bike to use for dual sport there was only one choice and now i love my FE390. It has the innovation of husaberg and just enough ktm parts commonality to make maintenance easy and great community support. Loved the video!

Great information! I have a ‘08 FE450E that I bought last year. Needed engine work and parts are hard to come by here in the States. Speaking of the bike though, I was really surprised by the technology in it compared to my Japanese bike. I am however not a fan of the crankcase/cylinder design. It makes for rebuilding a lot more expensive and time consuming. Again, great video and thanks for the info!

@@barebonesmc I had a friend who was one of the two or three guys who made Husqvarna what it was in the '80s. He helped to steer things right at Husaberg too. However, he also visited Highland, helped them with the engine but told them the their bike wouldn't work, too much hp and the engine too far back in the frame. It would always go with the front wheel in the air. They didn't listen and then they had to build a new frame. My friend called them idiots. You won't find his name anywhere and I won't tell you. He died a couple of years ago from blood poisoning. If you find a small road race bike with a tuned Husky single in Australia, you now know where it came from. The first Husaberg was a raw bike. Nobody could win with it. Who made Husaberg competitive were Vertemati brothers in Italy. Not the swedish engineer. The swedish were conservatives. The Vwrtemati were 10 years in front. So Husaberg gave to Vertemati to manage the racing department and they contracted Joel Smets. But in 1993 Vertemati decided to built his own bike and in 1994 almost won the World Championship with Smetz. All the effots done in 1994 made Vertematis totally financially brocken. Smetz went back to Husaberg bringing all the experience made with Vertemati. And became 4 time World Champion. At the end I can say that without Vertemati the Husaberg never would achieve what he did.
Cheers for adding this. Interesting stuff I knew nothing about being honest. I will do some digging . As i have often said, if we could amass the combined knowledge of all the subscribers we would have the most comprehensive motorcycle encyclopedia ever 🙂

I've worked on Husqvarna TE510's aswel as on Husabergs and enjoyed Jacky Martens and Joël Smets getting their world titles for Husqvarna and Husaberg. Finally some brands stood up to years of domination of the 'big four (Japs)'. One thing though both engineers in both companies (Husqvarna and Husaberg) seemed to forget in development is that a four stroke engine needs a good lubrification system and you just can't do that using a sort of reed valve pump system to do the job properly. What the hell were they thinking? They were not the only ones that overlooked the importance of a well-based lubrification system... even master-engineer Fabio Taglioni in all his geniousity made a huge mistake when designing his first bevel-twin Ducati engines and thinking it might be ok not to filter oil before to be pumped up lubricating those large big-end rods. before you take on KTM, you should know that KTM was already taking interest of re-introducing four strokes into MX-GP long before there was ever a mention of the brand name of Husaberg. Check out motorcross videos from 86-87 and you'll see.

Rode Husky all my life, until they closed shop. They were the best engineered bikes, what took seven parts on a Jap bike, the Husky did with four parts.
Also saw the Video from KRANKiT about Husaberg some days ago. HUSABERG were the only guys I bought a new bike from in my live until now. Still have the 2000 FE600. Before I always got back to my twostrokes after testing fourstrokes . The Husaberg changed my mind ........

I raced a 98 FX 501 in Ohio harescrambles. I don’t think I was ever passed in a straight stretch. Fantastic bikes, but like a beautiful woman, high maintenance.
never passed on the 501...you must never have come across the fe600. i had them all except the 550 and 470. the 501 was the best all around. the 600 was too much for ohio scrambles but would stretch your arms if on a straight, and the estart was a blessing.
Those Husaberg engineers (previously with husqvarna in pre Cagiva days), were legends. Anyone riding 4 strokes in the mid to late '80's would know what rubbish the Japanese were offerring with 4 stroke bikes TT600, XR600 etc. Big,heavy and lazy docile engines. The TE510 was a breakthrough in true performance 4stroke dirt bikes. They continued that innovation with the 70 degree engine etc. Its unfortunate that smaller companies will always be vulnerable to large corporations regardless of how good their products are.
I had a '96 and everyone that rode it was highly impressed. It drew so much attention, especially at hare scrambles where it was in its element. The only issue I ever really had was hot or cold starts were bear at times which was its ultimate undoing for me. I miss that tank sometimes still.
i think they were reliable if you were over the top on maintenance like me lol, they didnt like not having frequent oil changes and some people took the piss and got bitten back i think
I have 3 650s; a 450 and now, a 550 and wish I had a slant motor (390; 450; 570, I don't care which). Truth is, without KTM, Husaberg would have died due to inability to get good prices on materials and lack of dealer network. The early Bergs were expensive and unreliable as casual riders due to a lack of an oil pump (the spitter was fine for racing, not good on the trail). Still, it was sad to see KTM treat the Berg like a red-headed step child after the acquisition. They really are great bikes.

The Husa 70 Degree was never used in any MX bikes, only enduro bikes, and the american Harescramble classses, Called FX. The Husa 390 has nothing to do with the Ktm 390 engine. No similarities other than being single cylinder fourstrokes. Ktm never got any tech from Husky. When Bmw owned Husky, they shut down the red top engines, 510, 610, 630 etc and created the Terra model with the Rotax engine also used in the bmw 650 Gs and other bikes. bmw developed their own 450 enduro engine, and it later became a Husky 450 and 511, with red valve covers. Ktm only bought the name from Bmw, nothing else. On a personal note, i have never owned a Husaberg, but have had several friends riding them. These were the models prior to the 70 degree models. And i must say. They were not reliable.. The ktms were much better..

The world of sales is 100% dependent on marketing….. Husaberg dropped the ball…KTM is not to blame…Huasaberg could have hired a marketing team and didn’t…..so what would you expect?….innovators are innovators….and yes they need to have 100% of the credit for that…..but every rider wants to pay less for bikes and economy’s of scale matter….if you want less expensive products….the fault lays with us the consumer…when we demand better products and are willing to pay higher prices…these sorts of stories will be a thing of the past….just sayin….its us the riders who are to blame…not the companies that just give us what we want….cheap prices….love your videos🥰

Great information! I have a ‘08 FE450E that I bought last year. Needed engine work and parts are hard to come by here in the States. Speaking of the bike though, I was really surprised by the technology in it compared to my Japanese bike. I am however not a fan of the crankcase/cylinder design. Hmm Highland bikes look good I saw an article from last year saying a Chinese manufacturer is interested in a partnership with them. I bought an SWM in 2020 that I ended up not liking much, another European/Chinese partnership. CFMoto is the best of the Chinese bikes I think. Good luck to Highland!

I've just come across a Husaberg over here in Phnom Penh and was considering buying it. I'm thinking about the price of spare parts though.
might not be easy, but great bikes, good forums should help, try asking on a few

Also has a ton to do with market and economy. When times tight toys get put.off. times good toys sell. When and how you market are key, also i am one that sticks with honda and kawasaki. My skills do not reach their limits and parts are readily available even in my not big city town. If i want ktm.ducati or the luke nearest dealers are more than 100 miles away in birmingham al. Or 150 in atlanta. Not worth down time and travel time
I see your point Jack , having said that, buying a company to sink it is brutal to say the least. but i guess kill the competition and you guarantee the win, if KTM had put a fraction of their marketing budget behing Husaberg instead of asset stripping then we may have had a very different story. cheers for watching mate, ride free
