  • Why League of Nations Failed | The Outbreak of World War 2 | Flashback with Palki Sharma
The United Nations was preceded by another organisation called the League of Nations. Its job was to prevent another world war. But in 1939, the League failed its most important mandate when Hitler's armies marched across Europe. Palki Sharma tells you why the League of Nations failed to stop World War 2.
Flashback | League of Nations | United Nations | Adolf Hitler | Benito Mussolini | World War | Woodrow Wilson | Treaty of Versailles | US Congress | Geneva Protocol | World War II | Italy | France | Belgium | Norway | Germany | USA | United Kingdom | Russia | Ukraine | Flashback with Palki Sharma | World News | Global News | Firstpost | Latest News | Trending News

I am originally from Togo and now reside in the states. I have yet to meet any American that know the history of the League of Nations. This organization was very consequential for Africa and the reason why we have the current nation states. At the end of the 2 war, the league decided to share all previous Germany colonies to the Allie-French and the British, like a cake just like it was earlier in 1884-1885 with the Berlin conference.
Thanks Palki for going into the memory lane and teach the West this evidence of the past. Every single African in Africa who finished high school know about this.

Just a suggestion: Your app needs a lot of work. It seems dated, congested, has the same old story from last week still featured prominently. For all the fans of Palki and Firstpost, we need the app to be as crisp and informative as your shows. For news junkies like me who like to stay on top of headlines, I have to go to other news apps for more recent updates since yours isn’t up to date. Hope you guys will work on that as well. Ma'am Palki usually you are accurate but in this flashback, errors have crept in. Czarist Russia had joined the Great War in 1914 as an ally of Britain and others of that camp but had left after the revolutions of 1917, so it was not a 'victorious' power when the war ended in 1918. It was not represented at Paris where leaders of other countries held negotiations or at Versailles where the treaty was signed.
But interestingly India was present with two representatives, one of whom was Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner. He personally met American president Wilson and argued that India should become a founding member of the proposed League of Nations. Wilson agreed and the British rulers could not play spoilsport. So the Maharaja and the other Indian delegate signed the treaty at Versailles and paved way for India to become a founder member of the League of Nations.

"Today, it is us, tomorrow it will be you". Famous words uttered from the podium of the League of Nations by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1937 after Fascist Italy invaded Abyssinia (Ethiopia), raining mustard gas (hiprite, phosgene) on defenseless civilians, Geneva Convention be damned. The powers then, mainly Britain and France, decided to sacrifice Abyssinia, a member of the League, to appease Mussolini. Haile Selassie was prescient. 50 million people would be dead when WWII broke out in 1940 and raged until 1945. A great majority of the dead would be Europeans.

Exactly they always seem to leave out that part when judgement was cast by the emperor and it fell on death ears so WW2 started Europe fighting each other while the king treaded the winepress

Shocking that League of Nations sanctions didn't prevent or stop war. One could conclude that they helped start WW2, maybe those preaching sanctions on Russia now might learn a thing or two from this.

the editing is great but those who have read history are the ones who understood it, it could have been much more systemic and organized. some events like why Germany revolted because of the Treaty of Versailles, the imposed sanctions on Germany's army, the rhine valley conflict, and the shattered economy, in general, I expected more, and I'm sure it will improve, the episodes can be longer and more elaborating and can u touch parts of history which are not generally talked about or mentioned in history books it'll great this way and much more lucrative to watch,
anyways thank you for this show

Great episode. Congratulations well researched nicely, put easy to understand, and of course fabulous delivery, one think I would like to say however, i liked the relaxed and laid back sitting positions of gravitas pluse, which made it feel like relaxed sunday conversation rather than a presentation/lecture.

I like the way it was presented palki, in my school days I didn't understand this topic so much with Indian perspective and connecting it with today's geopolitical scenario , keep it up 🎉!! Also I would like you to touch the topics of soviet union formation to the cold war era strategy, it is very much fascinating for me 😊
