  • The apparel industry is churning out new designs so quickly that its inventory can almost be considered single-use plastic. In the outdoor world, most clothing designed for camping, hiking, and other rugged conditions uses nylon and polyester, fibers made from plastic.
Enter Repair Lair: a Minneapolis-based shop repairing and selling second-hand outdoor clothing and gear, extending its lifetime. Repair Lair is one of many companies transforming the apparel industry, leading the way with a revolutionary business model to keep our clothes out of landfills.

I have heard of repair day events in some cities around the country (USA) . One of my friends participated as a sewist to repair minor clothing issues. Others repaired small appliances etc.... There should be more of these events around the country to keep things useful and out of our landfills.

I love this! People should also check out the companies they've bought from. Some will repair their items for free or low cost. Though usually shipping isn't included. Fast fashion is up to 52 micro seasons of clothing, general retail is around 22 seasons a year. I'm not sure about outdoor retail but it's definitely more than 2 seasons a year.

Seems like a reliable way to fix planned and perceived obsolescence.

I loved this video. Very inspiring to go it our way and do what we feel is right. It takes all of us, and every little bit counts. Request to the manager of the page to turn off ads on all of your videos! They cover up the text on the screen, which is critical for understanding the video, since much of it doesn't have a voiceover. The link (card, or tile, or whatever youtube calls it) at the end also covers up the words on the screen, so we can't find out what they said.

Thank you for making the same comment I was going to make. The darn ad covered up the text on screen!

If I wanted to read I’d have looked for a blog post, not a UA-cam video 😅

I couldn't see the text in the last few frames; what gives? You need to allow people to see the ENTIRE IMPORTANT Message!

Wonderful idea. But I had to look up the meaning of 'micro-seasons'. Wow! I had no idea such existed. Now I have a new reason to be disgusted by the capitalist model of human management...
