Alabama and Penn State have played some great games
Penn State was so good at creating turnovers in 1986.
Thank you for all your videos
That Lion defense was brutal
D.J. Dozier was a big strong back hard to stop. He wasn't quite as fast, but he reminded me in some ways of Herschel and Bo.
paterno had some shiit QB's in his day... his teams won on defense, specialty teams and discipine. He was an amazing coach.
For a "shit" QB, Shaffer was 13 of 17 for 168 and 0 picks that day. Looked it up.
Yeah ask Georgia how "shitty" Todd Blackledge was in '82
@@okedoke1234 Right, but this team was strong too. What a dominant performance. Joepa probably couldn't believe he hit all those field goals and 5 turnovers, what a dream day.
Kerry Collins was a very good QB who played for Penn State in 1994 they were even ranked #1 for a while with Collins at QB. Kerry Collins became a good starting quarterback in the NFL he lead the Giants to a Superbowl that they lost to Ray Lewis and an all time great loaded Ravens defense but Penn State has had a few legit QB'S back in the day.
@MagikApothocary Agreed, that was his job and he was the best at it in 1986
Man look at those classic unis, Bama crimson and Penn State all whites, classic.
My 2 favorite college uniforms, Alabama is my favorite college football team and Penn State is my favorite BIG10 or team from the north.
Lifelong Bama fan and a student during this time. I was there for this gray, rainy, frustrating game. Everything is a blur except 5:03 because I'd guessed it was about to happen. This wasn't a great Bama team, but '86 PSU was a machine.
That was a good Alabama team
Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky had Shula and Humphrey in trouble all day, even before they left the locker room.
@@stevemtc1 100% agreed, it was a good Alabama team. But not a great one so I stand by what I said.
I heard Nick Saban is going to retire as soon as his contract is up. Is that true?
What a day for the Penn State RBs!
Masimo Manca was so reliable in 86
This defense was the typical bend but don't break!!! They were fantastic, Shane Conlin and Andre Collins were phenomenal and D.J. on the offense as well!!!! I loved when we went into the Fiesta bowl all about business!!! And, Miami got off the plane wearing military camaflouge and laughing, and then we intercepted Testaverte 5 times!!!!!!
In the final four games in Alabama ('84, '86, '88, and '90), Alabama did not score a TD. However, they were 2-2 in those games:
84: Bama 6, Penn St. 0
86: Penn St. 23, Bama 3
88: Bama 8, Penn St. 3
90: Penn St. 9, Bama 0
Final four home games of the ten-year series 1981-90.
Bama would end up winning 6 of the 10 games, in the 1980's series, it was a great series set up by bear , joe pa
@MagikApothocary Thanks for the explanation. Penn State was always tough and physical. This 1986 team, I believe, was his best at Penn State.
Hard to believe there was a time where Penn State could actually beat Alabama, in Tuscaloosa.
patsflysfan2 to be fair, BDS wasn’t really Alabama’s home stadium in 1986. Legion Field was.
If Alabama played in the Big Ten, they's lose two games during the regular season.
They had D.J. Dozier and Blair Thomas in the backfield that year.
This PSU team was on a mission that year after the Orange Bowl debacle.
I think John Schaefer only lost one game in his entire hs and college career(the '86 orange bowl against OU)
Lost @ WV on a sat nite on ESPN... remember it well, I lost money. Paterno had a tying FG, but passed it up going 4 the win. The FG would have covered for me, oh well... who says you'll forget the losses?
@@bishlap Odd choice for joe too. I'd have rather he went for the win more often but he played the percentages, minimized mistakes, fundamentals, good d.
John Shaffer was 66-1 as a starting QB from 7th grade on.
@@bishlap Shaffer was 66-1 as a starter. He did not start that game. Doug Strang was the starter.
@@e2go iirc, joepa had made a derogatory remark along the lines of “I won’t leave college football to the Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrills of the world” at some point during the ‘80s and Oklahoma used that as extra motivation in that Orange Bowl loss for the nittany lions. As a Bama fan I miss the series that we played back in that decade-much mutual respect between our fan bases.
absolutely beautiful played football
Wait...THAT is Bryant-Denny Stadium? I thought that that place held over 100,000. Perhaps the television network got it wrong and meant to say Legion Field because that place does not look anything like Bryant Denny Stadium
Keep in mind that was in 1986
Wish we could get this quality football at Penn State nowadays....
Legendary opponents...I hope PSU can win in 2011 so this will be a 1-1 worth remembering!
@scarfacelikespizza
Do you thing Penn State has Classy fan now?
There are high school teams that could beat these sorry ala teams. That Shula curse, he was a sorry qb, and an even sorrier coach. Not one player was drafted into the Nfl in 2006. pitiful.
30 years later...teams have gone in opposite directions.
yea i remember this game.penn state had a great team that year.i thought alabama was going to just whip the hell out penn state the day before.......oh well.
It's funny cause I'm thinking the same thing here before the 19 cotton bowl Memphis game
the PSU line was awesome the out weighed Bamas line by at least 75 lbs a player They dominartedf that game but Bama was so drunk from wolluping tn they shuld of played better I just think PSU was awesome then
1:00 how is that not a missed field goal?
Alabama refs😂😂
1:45 BUILD THE WALL
Textbook spearing at 6:12
The greatest college football program of all-time ( more D1 national championships than any other team) versus Penn State.
And more cheating.

Hahaha you wish, envy boy.
I still love PENN STATE. Kept faith through institutional tragedy that sapped mortal strenght of one of the greatest all time IVY LEAGUE quarterbacks.
By contrast, I loathe bama. Never once rooted for the program. Needless to say I enjoyed the video.
Alabama played horrible in this game. Alabama had a great team that year. They ran out of gas late in the season. Look at their schedule from that year. They was emotionally drained by the time they reached this game. Penn State would have probably still won but Alabama would have given them a much better game and atleast had a chance. The halfback screen hurt both teams. Penn State had a great team that year no doubt
WOW. You're related to Bear?
We had somewhat of an advantage when we played Bama in the 1980s. Bama was always one of our biggest games, while we were not one of Bama's biggest games. Bama's biggest games back then were against the likes of Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Auburn. I guess some things never change. This game was played around October 25, right in the middle of the SEC schedule. Bama was ripe for a let down game.
Too bad, son, the schedule is the schedule.
apologist
Jerry Sandusky had the Tide right where he wanted them - in the locker room!!
Now psu has a pathetic fraud of a coach named James Franklin!!
Penn State calling somebody a freak ? That's funny
