God’s sovereignty vs men’s responsibilities: and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, ... Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. ...: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, ... ”(Daniel2:18-23 ESV)
?? I have been watching your Matthew series and loved what you said about the Lord's Prayer already being in circulation minus the one line. How certain is that? A quick Google search showed that the Amidah was around for hundreds of years already, but you were pinpointing that portion of it to being only a couple decades before Jesus. I went out on a limb and taught it to children as fact that the Lord's Prayer was already being prayed by Jews (less v 12). Now I am regretting that I did so. I would love to find a way to verify this for myself. It makes perfect sense in the context of the text with the follow-up verses as you said. But 20 or 30 years seems awfully close to Jesus' life. How can we be certain that it was already in wide circulation BEFORE He taught it? Thank you so much!
