Great episode. Just to play advocate for Mike’s supporters:
- Mike is mostly correct about using full ROM, however the caveat here is that you need to use the biggest ROM you have for the target joint/muscle, without compensating elsewhere to achieve that ROM.
I have always noticed how he executes movements very differently to Jared and other people he trains. Something I’ve seen you point out as well!
- I believe that Mike’s advice around programming is pretty good. It’s definitely a touch dogmatic and may not be the best method for everyone. However, for the most part it’s pretty good!
My criticism is how he attacks low volume training. There are so many real World examples of great results being achieved with lower training volumes and higher effort levels.
Again though, the people who have had success with this have executed movements in a very effective manner. Guys like Dorian and Dave Henry for example.
