- So sorry there was no uploads from me last week everyone.. My last couple of videos got blocked :( I had to take out a huge chunk of this one as well as it got blocked due to Art is Dead, so there's only one song reaction for this video sorry. But Words Words Words deserves it's own video anyway!

It's a shame we're not getting the "art is dead" reaction. That's, in many ways, the start of him switching up his style.

It wasnt a switch, or a view into his mind. Listen to tim minchin, an influence on bo. Besides it's all ironic detachment. Bo is a lyrical genius but even tom lehrer was doing this back in the 60s. Hes still alive too, like 96.

I think part of what's great about Bo is that he makes it virtually impossible to catch everything the first listen. Love the post-lyric-lookup (we've all done it) bit - it's fun watching people realize just how much he packs into a three-minute song :D
This is the first song that really moved towards his standard model of comedy plus a message on the third act. Great one for sure.

As someone else said, the big thing I see others do is cranking the transparency on the video and flipping it. If that doesn’t work, I’ve seen people just blur it out or put words over it.

If you still get blocked after trying out everyone's suggestions, then try editing in a few 3-4 second breaks/pauses during the time you're reacting to the videos. Maybe put in a fun fact about you or the person you're reacting to. If you're able to upload after doing that, then it's probably both video and audio. I honestly don't know if it this will work, I'm just sort of thinking out loud....well not really out loud since I'm typing....and people tend to read to themselves in silence........Anyway, I hope just flipping the video or making it semi-transparent works, and you don't need to do this. Love your content! Looking forward to the next one!
If breaks are needed, just make sure to pause a few times while recording future videos.

It's nice to revisit these after loving Bo's material for years now. English being a second language, there are jokes still that I've missed through who knows how many listens.

flipping the video in the playback apparently helps. Can also blur it if needed. Would love to hear your other reactions even if you have to make adjustments and re upload
Making these videos transparent and flipped doesn't get it blocked and you can watch the video with the reactor unlike if you blurred it

@@Aliceingingerland flipped as in mirrored (if there was captions they would be backwards) i watch a lot of youtube reactors its the visuals that cause it to get claimed 60% transparent would prevent it watch a cliffbeats video as an example

Hey alice please give the videos around 30% transparency and push the video a little further into the top left corner such that you cut off a slight sliver on the left and top. This will make it where the automated system cannot detect it. This reaction obviously falls under fair use but the automation doesn't know that so I hope this trick helps you. Hope to see you give the videos another try.

Hey Alice such a shame about the lost reactions! Could you try flipping them, making them transparent or putting writing over them and trying to upload again? I would hate to never see them. This is something other reactors have done and they have got them through, maybe something to try for the future too? Been looking forward to this, watching at 4.15am in the UK! Also, he's not touring, you will learn more about that further down the line...

People have been helpful about the videos getting blocked: lowering the transparency and mirroring the video you react to do seem to help. There is also something I'd highly recommend: pausing and actually commenting on the content then rewinding few seconds and continuing. Providing commentary in the middle of the content might feel disruptive but that actually is a way to somewhat mess with the automated copyright system and give you a fighting chance when it comes to the copyright laws and fair use. Providing more commentary and criticism is more work, but it is also the only thing that copyright laws give you permission to do with other peoples content.

Give the first tip a try, and don't do it on the plain white wall (do it over the bookcase, or something equally as non-uniform). Also, I much prefer reaction videos where they stop (and do the 5 second rewind (left arrow key does 5 seconds back)) and chat in the middle.
@@Aliceingingerland You can also put a transparent overlay over the video, and when it comes to anything music doing simple things like slowing to 0.9 or speeding the audio to 1.1 or putting a filter over it to distort it can help. It's all just a computer program flagging things automatically so it's just finding ways to trick the video and audio scanning to not match something copyrighted.
@@Aliceingingerland Some put a light text overlay over the video. Look at other channels who uploaded the same video that you were trying to and see what they did to get around it.
Glad you seem to be enjoying. I think your chronological method of watching these makes sense, but you're hitting a huge span of videos that are famous for being copyright nightmares. His new stuff is fair game but there's a good bit of context that you wont get if you jump that far ahead. Hopefully you can figure out how to navigate all this

I'm a new fan of Bo's based on his 2021 extravaganza, and have only minimally poked at his early work because he's said in interviews (and a recent song) that he's not proud of a lot of it, that he was a teenage boy being "edgy" and often went too far. Going on this journey with you confirms my choice to avoid the early stuff, but it's fun to watch you laugh so hard at it. I am all the more anxious for you to get to his more recent work! Frankly, it's a little heartbreaking to watch him become more jaded, and he seemed rather miserable in the Welcome to UA-cam performance. He seemed happy experimenting with the Words Words Words video though! Thanks for doing these videos.
Your tim minchin video showed up on my phone last week but when I tried to watch it was blocked so i figured copyrights were the cause of the absence.

@@Aliceingingerland like others are saying mirroring the video and upping the transparency always seems to help, especially since none of us watching actually need to see the video (or shouldn't cause why would we watch reactions to things we haven't seen)

You don’t come across as not getting the jokes… Bo Burnham loves to layer his comedy (and this increases as he matures), so it is very difficult to pick up everything on one listen… for anyone. I have the same problem with some of my doctor who reactions getting blocked my most recent one got blocked once and I was just like, "I'm not ready to re-edit that four times." It took so many tries just to get the last one that did that.
Yey another Bo reaction! I appreciate the Edit-Alice comments about jokes you didn't get on the first listen. I still find new jokes that I didn't get before when listening to some of his songs for the 20th time.
Many suggested tips for the video, to which I add: write something on it to make it less "recognisable" while still giving the idea of what is going on to us that know the video already. As for the audio, try changing the pitching or stopping the video more frequently to give your opinion so yt sees it more like ab edit or an analysis than a reaction
Sad we didn't get to watch you react to Grew On Me, it's probably my favorite Tim Minchin song. Made even more frustrating with UA-cam putting it in my recommendation feed over and over, but not letting me see it!

No worries on the lack of videos last week Alice allowed me time to catch up on some of your older ones. Glad you are safe and healthy and that we all were able to share in the expierence of this video. Sometimes on any journey we happen to go on there is going to be some unexpected bumps and roundabouts but despite that we keep going. After all wouldn't be a journey worth taking part in otherwise. I admire your perseverance I would have sworn off technology for a week as well with that frustration. After all technology is only great when it wants to work same goes with UA-cam in general that's why we will burn'em with Burnham the next time around. Haha

Would you at all consider uploading the blocked videos somewhere else, and then linking them in the description of relevant not blocked videos, so we could at least still see them? I know it's not ideal, but if you're not gonna try to get them on UA-cam anymore, it would at least be nice if all the effort wasn't for nothing, and if we could still experience it. I've seen a few reactors do that with blocked videos using things like vimeo, onehub, or I think even dropbox.

Hopefully you can reupload all the Tim and Bo content you've already worked on with the video adjustments everyone suggested in the comments. Since some of those are some of the best songs from them. Also, like you said, you've already put time and energy into them so why not.

I prefer the album version to the studio version of Words Words Words because it's far faster and that feels more impressive to me. The version you watched is actually the SLOWER version so that audiences could keep up and the editors could make a more cohesive video.
So many good bars in this song! My favorite was the Xenophobic Princess (I really liked Xena the Warrior Princess. Australian TV show :-). )
I really think you should pause more, it would allow you to go over specific lyrics that were just said easier, intake the material better so you may not need to come back later like you did in this video, as well as help avoid copyright.

Why didn’t you watch the entire thing? Like… the whole show?
Keep in mind, most of your viewers who are commenting on these videos are coming from recommended videos and have probably had like 10 years to "get" all the jokes and puns and wordplay in Bo's stuff. On top of that, Bo's early stuff before the 'What.' special was purposely written to basically be impossible to fully get on a first listen. Bo got better as an artist over time, and now his stuff still has lots of cleverness, but it's accessible on a first listen.
All that is to say that anyone who thinks you should get all the jokes in something like "Words Words Words" or "New Math" on a first listen is completely bonkers.
I've seen other reactors change the opacity the video they are watching and they seem to get everything through so you might want to try that. Even if its at like 20% the people watching you react will know whats going on in the video.
Personally I'd say make a drive file and upload all the blocked videos on to patrion behind like a dollar/month paywall.
I've decided not to make this comment either funny or clever on purpose to protect you having to try and pronounce my name again... :)
As I saw in other comments, a lot of people have experience in avoiding upload errors/blocks/bans, so perhaps with a few pointer (putting the footage in mirror, blurring it out, put letters across the footage, keeping below the 10 minutes "fair use" limit, etc.), we'll get to see those reactions in the future.
