I am in the same situation. I look
androgynous- I have a mixture Characteristics that make me look Like a girl and a guy at the same time. Most people can't really tell what I am but they just assume I am a boy because I was raised as a boy, so I dress like a guy so they just go with that. But even though I dress in Male clothes my facial features look feminine, and I identify as female way more then male.

Also, I'm glad to see another fellow beautiful and INTEResting person 💞💞 it's so good to see folks from the community (idk if it's a community? maybe I've just been horribly unaware of it until more recently--and I have Hans and Pidgeon to thank for being out there and letting ppl know that there ARE intersex activists out there) pointing out that there are a LOT of conditions that kind of fall under the umbrella, so to speak. I was big impressed that you knew about CAH when I mentioned it on insta btw, most people don't know wtf I'm talking abt when I mention it. and I'm also learning a LOT about various intersex conditions just from talking to ppl and watching yours and Pidgeon's vidjas. Thank you for existing, you are an absolute GIFT to this community

      Me??? ...beautiful AND INTEReresting? 🥺
In all seriousness thanks for your lovely comment! I've only gotten into activism after keeping quiet about being Intersex for years. It's FOR SURE a community and one that has welcomed me so much over the past year. It's like a big warm hug of shared experiences and acceptance from people you know but also people you've sometimes never met! I imagine that's what meeting other people with CAH felt like - it's certainly what it felt like when I met Robyn last year! This comment make me feel warm and is the reason I put myself out there so thank you again 💕

No problem! I'm thrilled to see other intersex folks not only existing in space but being vocal abt their experiences. I have also been very quiet about my experiences up until about a year or two ago. I know that putting yourself out there can be immensely stressful and risky but thank you for doing so, you guys are fighting the good fight for inexperienced creatures like me who are still learning 😊 I've never actually met someone with CAH that I'm aware of sadly, but I have met a few folks with AIS and someone with Klinefelter.

Thanks! I have PAIS and I'm immunocompromised due to medications I'm taking for an autoimmune disorder! N95 masks are a bit tricky to get right now, but my doctor said that the stress of childhood weirdness can make one more prone to this. As for my bones, my doctors aren't really taking it seriously even though I've had shin splints as long as I remember.
I've also had to conceal intersex status from some providers.

Ahhhh I was hoping someone would comment about this! Did you know that Stevonnie is canon non-binary AND Intersex? This past Intersex Awareness day InterACT day did a collaboration with Rebecca Sugar that is posted on their twitter account! I sometimes like use Garnet to describe my Chimerism to people who have seen the show. I use Garnet on account of her being two tiny lesbians stacked up on top of each other wearing a trench coat 🌈
In the movie, the song "Isn't it love?" makes me cry tears of joy every time because it makes me feel some sort of way about being who I am. :')

As someone share one form of intersex Im always intersected in what other peoples life experiences are. I too have had many health issues related to my intersex. Several surgeries as a child and more surgeries as a adult for even more surgery and almost stage three cancer. After all my struggles my mom once said she had not given birth to me. That hurt me very much because my life has worth. I realize what she was trying to convey but deep down there was deeper meaning

Chimerism in humans doesn’t exclusively happen between twins. It’s less common but possible for there to be a mix up in dna exchange from the mother to the fetus in the womb. Either through the placenta/umbilical chord or from the uterine walls cells. However the result is more or less the same so when it comes down to it is it even a big deal to bring this up? Maybe. Guess it depends on the audience and what they could benefit from that information

    Hi Hans,
This was a really great interview. It's great to see you back on UA-cam.
On one of your other online sites, you mentioned that state legislatures are passing harmful legislation while a lot of people aren't paying to them since everyone is so focused on the coronavirus. Would you consider doing a video on this topic?
I have seen some underhanded legislation get passed to and I would like to share some of that info with you if you are interested in learning about it.
The particular legislation to which I am referring does not relate to intersex issues, but the fact that government officials and representatives are using the COVID-19 scare to overstep their constitutional limits is very concerning to me?
    Thanks,
    Marlo

Hi Marlo, thank you! Yeah, this is very concerning. On social media I've talked a lot about Idaho and HB 500, having to do with sex testing discrimination in athletics. Have heard that a lot of other states are using it to pass things through quietly too. :( Would definitely love to talk about this. Happy to get any info, curious which other legislation you've been following.

      during COVID-19 Crisis
      1. NJ Governor - allows state troopers to “commandeer services & medical supplies” from individuals
      www.nj.gov/governor/news/news/562020/20200402c.shtml
      Question:
So if say someone has a ventilator at their house, the government has the right to commandeer it, because the medical professionals could use it in a hospital. Most people would reason that all medical equipment should be used for the greater good and not be hoarded, right? Well, what if someone happens to be using that ventilator they want to commandeer? (It may seem far fetched but, but I could totally see it happening.)
      2. Michigan Governor - prohibits the purchase of some goods at stores that are open

      Question:
Isn’t it a bit Orwellian to tell people that they can’t buy stuff in a store that is allowed to be open?
One of the things they can’t sell in Michigan during this “stay-at-home” order is gardening supplies.
Whether that was intentional or not, that means you can’t buy seeds to grow your own food.
Is the government trying to make us dependent on them?
(Note: This ban was eventually reversed, but that still way too controlling for me.)

Is it ok to believe that intersex is also a gender? Or am I doing intersex people a disservice by understanding by things this way?

    • @hihellohans
      @hihellohans  3 роки тому +7

Super complicated, hehe. From what I know, some small number of intersex people do consider it that way for themselves. Being intersex is a major experience that imprints on gender, so if someone feels that way, they might call it that for themselves. But broadly when I see it being talked about, that train of thought seems just less common.

    • @AZ-ty7ub
      @AZ-ty7ub 3 роки тому +4

For me, my intersexness greatly effects my experience of gender, to the point where I (privately) describe myself as being intergender, while outwardly fulfilling the male social role. I would not say most intersex people think of themselves that way however, even if their intersex-ness does significantly effect them.

    • @lindewhocares1353

You are all so young. I am rather old, and when I grew up, nobody knew anything about intersex. I was AMAB, and really don't know if I was medically manipulated on, but I neverdevelope ay secondary male sex characteristics, and my body slowly feminized. Nobody really knew why, and I was yod that some peope are just different, and I was one of them. I later in life transitioned ito a female, but the health insuranve required that gender dysphoria had to be diagnosed for them to pay anything. Intersex as such was no reason to have any surgery.
So, yes, for any medical specific treatment one has to be diagnosed to be transsexual, intersex has no weight.

Are the doctors views based strictly on chromosomes or perhaps their judeo christian beliefs about gender by genitalia? Could this also be why they try to coerce various surgeries that try to get you to look or conform to what a boy or girl should look like?
