As someone who genuinely does not enjoy extreme horror, I thought Survivor was superb. I really loved that a lot of the extreme parts were more implied rather than explained. I thought it was brilliant how Gonzalez portrayed through the emotions and body language of the characters instead of going for the gross out. The Road is one of my favorite takes on the end of the world. It's brutal, real, and very well paced. The Ruins is in my top ten horrors of all time. I loved the slow build and isolating atmosphere. The constant feeling of paranoia and hopelessness was so engaging and I LOVED the ending. Great video, man! I always rave about how awesome the 80's and 90's were for horror, but I'll have to start digging into the 00's now!
I agree. Extreme horror usually isn't my thing either. But something about that book really worked for me. I think you explained it better than I could! And yeah, the Ruins is such a superb piece of fiction! I love the 80s and 90s horror as well! But the 2000s was some of the first horror I got into, so it holds a special place for me. And there really was some great stuff in that decade! And thanks man! Big fan of your videos. Your hauls are always so insane! Thanks for watching!
Yes--Depraved and The Ruins made the list! Love this list and love the story about finding all those Richard Laymon Headline books. They definitely have much better cover art than the Leisure editions.
Yeah, the only other book of his I've read was The Freakshow, and I didn't think it was all that good. Also, I just realized you're Monsterblood! I've watched a ton of your Goosebumps content through the years. Thanks for watching, man!
I wouldn’t call THE ROAD a horror novel, but it’s definitely one of the best written books I’ve ever read, and it’s one of those books that stick with you.
Oh, I was thinking of Survivor when we were talking about Hawk. Like...yeah...who would enjoy a book like this? :looks around uncomfortably: Ooh a Hershel Gordon Lewis that I haven't seen. I'll check it out!
The Ruins is an amazing book. Read it in two sittings, absolutely could not put it down.
I agree! So well done!

New to your channel and love the lesser known books. More to add on my tbr. I had to subscribe. Keep it up!
Welcome, and thanks for the sub! Lesser known stuff is my favorite
I loved The Road! I'm surprised Steve called it dude bro lit. I'm going to go find his videos about it!
Haha yeah I loved it too! To each their own.
Getting caught at the airport with 30 Richard Laymon books probably got you on a list somewhere
Haha! Undoubtedly, it did!
Awesome list!!! I loved both The Traveling Vampire Show and Night in the Lonesome October, but I have to read the others!
Thanks Kelsi! Yeah, I figure he's ever present in your mind these days with your Year of Laymon!

Thanks man! Glad you agree with my choices. And yeah, those covers are so great!
Berserk is looking little different then the one i know haha but it does sound interesting.
the ruins is one i will try to get around to
Just looked it up. I guess you're referring to the Manga?
And yeah, definitely try The Rui s
@@BadTasteBooks yes i am lol i always make lame jokes when things have similar names.
Depraved was pretty good. I read a couple of other books by him but neither of them were close to the quality of Depraved

Yeah, fair enough, I won't die on that hill. But yeah, it definitely had an impact on me, whatever the genre may be.

I'd say it's at least a book that horror readers tend to like.
I feel like I'm slacking I haven't read any of these 😂
Just means plenty of books left to experience for the first time!
@BadTasteBooks Exactly:)
More snuff stuff eh? Ya sicko, No wonder you liked that Hawk book. ha. Depraved sounds like the plot to 2000 Maniacs.
