My wife has fostered hundreds of kittens, some take time to come around, hell ive seen her take 16 week old feral kittens and be holding and petting a purring kitty in 24 hours.
My dad once fell asleep and had feral kittens snuggle up to him. He had found out a cat put her babies in the rafters of this open boat barn. Because he's a napoholic, he talked to the kittens for a while and then laid down on the concrete and fell asleep...
We used to have a stray cat that was extremely scared of people and wouldn't let anyone come near it no matter how many tried.. I worked alone on the graveyard shift and would throw out food while I was sitting outside smoking and waiting for customers.. after about a week or so, the cat started slowly making its way closer and closer to me, until it got brave enough to come take the treats from my hand.. after a month working there, the cat had pretty much adopted me and would actually come rub between my legs and ask for pets and treats.. my coworkers and regular customers who had known how antisocial the cat was before I came along, were shocked at how sweet the cat turned out to be.. one couple who had always wanted to try to feed the cat and could never get it to interact with them, eventually were able to gain its trust, and decided to adopt it and give it the home I couldn't (thanks to pet restrictions where I lived).. I've had similar experiences with other cats and dogs as well, but that one always made such an impact because I knew that I had helped all of them find their happy home together.. patience, persistence and getting down to their level was all it took for me to help that cat learn to trust humans..
not every cat is the same. It's not alright to adopt a cat thinking one day they will be in your lap. We have a 4 year old feral cat, she's ok sleeping at our place, rubbing against my mum's legs for food, but touching her is a big no-no even after 4 years. People gotta realize all cats have their own personality.
@@kart1372 ofc every cat has a different personality, I do believe tho that your cat is the way it it because humans did the cat harm when it was younger. Ofc the cat will have a hard time trusting again after being abused outside by strangers for example , there are a lot of people out there who hate cats and purposefully harm them and that is not okay in the slightest. We found a cat that also was really feral 4 years ago and my mother bonded with her after I believe 5-6 months until she really became tame, she was the sweetest cat out there and she even showed us her kitties. All of them found a home and we neutered her, she sadly never came back to us after one storm even after looking for her in the whole village for weeks. Anyway what I wanted to say is that I got one of the kittens and she also behaved feral if you could say that. she is now 3 years old and the most affectionate cat I know and I believe that this is because we never treated her bad in any way or form since she was 8 weeks old. We also had a cat that sadly died of cancer with 16, she was a cat that behaved relatively cold to everyone except to my mom. My father rescued her from teenagers that tossed and kicked her around when she was a young cat. This is what I meant with if you can tame them they will give you trust and love, you have to earn their trust and love and you also could loose said trust and love if you harm them in any way or form. Sorry for the long text but I wanted to explain myself better since English is not my first language.
@@cappuccinocappy no, she was born in our house. We have a big farm for her, no neighbors around. We tried touching her like the girl in the video but she's been a coward from the moment she was born , so we stopped and haven't petted her ever since. She touches her on her own terms and walks away as soon she sees a hand coming close to her. She had no issues showing us her kitties and all, or being completely drunk asleep, belly up in the wide open in front of us, but just wont let us touch her. It's been 4 years so we have no hope for her being loving and cuddly , but truth be told she's a good cat. She brings mice for my mum to eat lol. And we've accepted her for who she is. After all we're living in her house.
@@kart1372 that’s really nice to hear that your family has excepted her for who she is, some people would probably and sadly give her away for not being as cuddly as other cats.
I’ve been playing with and feeding a 7 week old kitten maybe 8 weeks old now, and it is a little heartbreaking but what’s more heartbreaking is that the reason they feel like that. Like that barrier was broken to just accept contact. It because they’re not tigers anymore. They’re cats. But they’re feral cats. So they have instincts like tigers and don’t even realize Love is an option. The kitten I mentioned that I play with will catch herself being too happy or comfy and she’ll run away rly quick out of anxiety of like “oh I will take her or she’ll never come back outside or maybe I’m gonna eat her” so I just still monitor if she wants domestication or the wild. But from my observations she craves attention and playtime, she doesn’t rly wanna do survival. I can tell because some cats like her mother hunt the birds around here. I’ve accidentally catered to this kitten to think porch food is the way of life. Our lease is up in the winter so I’d have to leave her with being taught nothing by her peers on how to survive or I starve her out. Or I take her in.
I'll never forget taming the feral kittens we rescued. Unfortunately we weren't able to tame the mama, but we did get her spayed and released her back into the neighborhood. We still see her every now and again and she's doing well, the kittens all got adopted into wonderful homes!
Very true. We were in a similar situation. Only by taking in both mamma and daughter, were we able to help them. ( They were the two worst ferrel cats that we had to date.) Sadly, mamma was very sick but still very full of fight. The mamma cat we named Grandma, the daughter we named Squirt. Squirt would never leave grandma that's why taking both of them in was important to her as well as us. Squirt was pregnant when we took them in so her kittens were no problem as they were born inside the safety of our home. Taking Grandma and Squirt to the vet was a challenge. Thank goodness we have an excellent vet who came to the house. Sadly, Grandma passed away two years later still ferrel. 😿 It has been four years now for Squirt and she is still semi ferrel but will now interact with humans and play with toys and the rest of her cat family. Squirt is still a labor of love in progress as we refuse to give up on her. Bottom line Squirt came to trust us because we cared for not only her but her mamma and babies. 😻
You can't start petting the from the head down. You have to pet them gently with something small like a chopstick and rub their chest. Then you let them smell you and gently ease your hand to scratch their chin. If you reach for the top of their head, they'll think you're grabbing them and/or trying to hurt them. I've just trapped and tamed an entirely feral kitten in a day, and have always done it in a day or two. Some cats take longer, but if at week one they're still spitting and screaming, then something isn't being done correctly. He shouldn't be in the kennel for more than two days, and should be given freedom to roam a small, confined room. If you're worried about them running under things: block off holes and gaps with an old towel or shirt, also considering a walking harness so they'll get used to your company AND have freedom to roam safely without running off. Always let the kitten sniff first and go from bottom to top. All cats love pets, you just need to find their spot and earn their trust ☺
I think another good tactic might be to let them roam freely, cover the kennel so they might associate it as a safe place to hide when they feel uncomfortable. Comfortability with human presence and the kennel at the same time!
My daughter found a very feral Siamese kitten. She couldn't handle him & asked me to help her. I put on a leather glove & we sat in front of the box he was in. He was hissing & growling the whole time. All of a sudden I just grabbed him & put him up under my chin talking soft to him & petting him with my thumb. Within a few short minutes he soften up & began to purr. He was one of sweetest little bity kittens we've ever had.
Just beautiful and it many many times my husband has marveled at how many feral cats we brought into the house it usually takes a year but it is well worth it they watch you they observe you they learn to trust you and that magical day comes when they jump in your lap pure joy Joy
The hissing starts to stop once the rubs come into play. They’re realizing “oh that’s nice. It feels so good” It’s cute to see the trust grow and then realizing you aren’t going to hurt them. We are watching love grow before our eyes. ❤
Exactly, And never force it Because it's not gonna happen overnight (figuratively speaking) If you do try to force it, He can and will HURT YOU. And older cats (of course) Are even more difficult than this little baby monster (or he thinks he is, anyway) here. I've rescued many cats, and even one Chihuahua that has been: "ABANDONED, ABUSED, STARVED and SEVERELY BEATEN" By "HEARTLESS TRASH PEOPLE" out there who thinks it's funny to do that to animals. I know I'm not the only one who says this: "PENALTIES FOR CRIMES AGAINST ANIMALS, AREN'T NOWHERE NEAR SEVERE ENOUGH YET"!
the most important thing is that you have given this kitten a chance at life. SOOO many owners would give this kitten up and I respect your resilience. They love you for giving them a warm home and food. It is just hard for them to express it because they are so scared :(! We love you! I love you for loving your furbaby unconditionally
Actually, the best way to tame a feral kitten or cat is to simply just spend time with them in the room where their kennel/crate/enclosure is, sit down facing away from them and just be there. Let them take the time that they need to accept you as part of their environment without expecting the reward of affection from them, and don't impose yourself upon them. In due time, curiosity will win them over, and they will come to you -- if you are patient enough to give them the time that they need. While still facing away from them, try introducing food treats by holding a few behind your back in your hands. Again, allow them to come to you to investigate you. The smell of food will draw them in towards your hands where the food is. Sniffing your hands will encourage them to associate your smell with the offering of food, imprinting you on them with a sense of security and safety and not something that poses a threat thereof
Definitely the long way to socialize a kitten. Kudos for not giving up. Faster progress is made by using food a motivation and also built trust. Can socialize in about 5-10 days or do it this way and take months 😊
@@andymejia5456 Socializing with food =/= just leaving a food bowl in their safe spot. Hand feeding, for example, is a method of socializing with food.
Bless you, It's a rough go for the strays. I've rescued so many cats, and it's not easy to gain trust. May blessings rain right on you for having compassion and patience for this precious baby.
What a cute little kitty Tips: let the cat befriend you first. Let it decide when it wants to approach you. If it hisses and seems scared, back away, sit down (get on its level sort of) so you don't seem big and dominant. Let it approach you. Let it smell your hand and if it lets you, try petting it under the chin, rather than on the head. If it wants you to stop, then stop. It's okay. You can befriend it with food. Offer the cat some food. First from a distance. Like put some food in a bowl somewhere nearby, and keep distance. Sometimes they'll enjoy the food and want more try luering them to you with food, they see that as friendly Let it know you're a gentle friend and eventually it will get used to you
fostering cats is so rewarding. if you have a corner for a pet play pen u can foster kittens. it’s so important and we need more foster parents out there

took me one day to calm down a kitten that fell out of my ceiling. didn't feed him one day. (he had water) the next day I took food in & could pick him up & never had anymore trouble.
It's most important to give them space, let them explore and feel comfortable, then they will eventually realise that you are not a threat and start approaching themselves

The realisation on day 14 that ear scritches are a thing for the lil hisser is the cutest thing I've seen
My wife has fostered hundreds of kittens, some take time to come around, hell ive seen her take 16 week old feral kittens and be holding and petting a purring kitty in 24 hours.
That works 👍🏼.
My dad once fell asleep and had feral kittens snuggle up to him. He had found out a cat put her babies in the rafters of this open boat barn. Because he's a napoholic, he talked to the kittens for a while and then laid down on the concrete and fell asleep...
Thank you for not giving up on her. There’s so many people on the Internet that would’ve given up on her own day one, thank you.
AWWWWWWWW

You did that without any captures or without forcing it to be socialized
You are the cat whisperer
If you can tame a feral cat you know that it will give you its unconditional love and trust for the rest of its life
not every cat is the same.

I think him being so angry makes him even cuter. Such a tiny fuzzy ball of pure anger!
At last, after 30 days, the beautiful kitty recognized your good intentions, love!❤️
Thank you
That sort of sad looking expression they get when they're just starting to accept contact breaks my heart.
( They were the two worst ferrel cats that we had to date.)
Sadly, mamma was very sick but still very full of fight.
It has been four years now for Squirt and she is still semi ferrel but will now interact with humans and play with toys and the rest of her cat family.
Squirt is still a labor of love in progress as we refuse to give up on her.
Bottom line Squirt came to trust us because we cared for not only her but her mamma and babies. 😻
Whatever this poor precious baby has gone through, thank you so much for showing him/he what love is🥰🥰
It was fear,so happy for her.We need more good people like you in the world.❤ Noreen Australia 🦘
SHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUT
Yeah always sniff then bottom to top
I dont think its a good idea to rub their stomach.
@@stajan8532 wuuuuuttttt????
My daughter found a very feral Siamese kitten. She couldn't handle him & asked me to help her. I put on a leather glove & we sat in front of the box he was in. He was hissing & growling the whole time. All of a sudden I just grabbed him & put him up under my chin talking soft to him & petting him with my thumb. Within a few short minutes he soften up & began to purr. He was one of sweetest little bity kittens we've ever had.
NEVER, EVER do that again. You are lucky the kitten warmed up to you after forcing yourself on to them like that.
That was crazy and unadvised but I'm glad it worked!!
Nah you're crazy
I love how it slowly went from swats and big spits/hisses, to just hisses, then _teeny tiny_ growls and nervous looks, to love and sweetness.
Thank You for your PATIENCE & GENTLENESS. ❤🐈⬛
That's a lot of patience. Mad respect
Cat: yo ayo YO DON'T TOUCH ME oh this is actually kinda nice
😂
Poor little baby kitty is scared.
it took way too long, she approached the wild thing over head every single time, they hate that
that’s how straight people turn gay after their first gay experience :/
Just beautiful and it many many times my husband has marveled at how many feral cats we brought into the house it usually takes a year but it is well worth it they watch you they observe you they learn to trust you and that magical day comes when they jump in your lap pure joy Joy
The hissing starts to stop once the rubs come into play. They’re realizing “oh that’s nice. It feels so good” It’s cute to see the trust grow and then realizing you aren’t going to hurt them. We are watching love grow before our eyes. ❤
Awe thank you for your love and patience to the beautiful kitten. They're not angry, just very scared. 🥰😾😼😺😻😻😻
Exactly,
And never force it
Because it's not gonna happen overnight (figuratively speaking)
If you do try to force it,
He can and will HURT YOU.
And older cats (of course)
Are even more difficult than this little baby monster (or he thinks he is, anyway) here.
I've rescued many cats, and even one Chihuahua that has been:
"ABANDONED, ABUSED, STARVED and SEVERELY BEATEN"
By "HEARTLESS TRASH PEOPLE" out there who thinks it's funny to do that to animals.
I know I'm not the only one who says this:
"PENALTIES FOR CRIMES AGAINST ANIMALS,
AREN'T NOWHERE NEAR SEVERE ENOUGH YET"!
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞👍👍👍
I’m glad the precious baby found trust in 30 days 🥺❤️🙏🏻
Will you find trust I find resignation
First the hissing and immidiately after the petting starts the kitten is like: "oh wait... i LIKE this!" 😂❤
"Don't even DARE to touch me!!!"
Two seconds later: "Oh, yeah, scratch me right there!"
two seconds later: oh ya I accepted to violate my limits, because I have no choice
the most important thing is that you have given this kitten a chance at life.
I've always done this and it works! it helps if you slow blink too. also, you seem very intelligent
Trust is everything for animals. When you get that trust, nothing in the world is more heartwarming.
Those half-hearted hisses in the middle were so cute. Glad to see trust finally get formed
Definitely the long way to socialize a kitten. Kudos for not giving up. Faster progress is made by using food a motivation and also built trust. Can socialize in about 5-10 days or do it this way and take months 😊
i’m pretty sure they gave it food 0__0
🤓🤓🤓🤓
Bro it sounds like a videogame conversation
5-10 days is still a very long time.
@@andymejia5456 Socializing with food =/= just leaving a food bowl in their safe spot. Hand feeding, for example, is a method of socializing with food.
It's wonderful that the kitten was able to overcome it's fear of you and learn to trust you !
Kitten looked so adorable when he was bursting in hiss 😂
Bless you, It's a rough go for the strays. I've rescued so many cats, and it's not easy to gain trust. May blessings rain right on you for having compassion and patience for this precious baby.
What patience and love will do for people and animals.
Blink slowly at them whenever you make eye contact. When they blink back, you have a friend.
It’s cute seeing them realize pets aren’t so bad and they aren’t in danger the confused looks after feeling pets for the first time is so precious
Bless you. You changed this baby’s life and outcome.
Beautiful gray tabby kitten. Thank you for rescuing the sweet baby. ♥️🐈
What a cute little kitty
Tips: let the cat befriend you first.
Sometimes they'll enjoy the food and want more try luering them to you with food, they see that as friendly
Let it know you're a gentle friend and eventually it will get used to you
So in short, there's boundaries. Nice! I'll definitely keep this in mind
Such persistence. Love conquers all.
I... This Kitty is just so cute and I'm happy they warmed up to you eventually, it's really sweet to watch 💚
You'll actually make quicker progress if you use a scratcher and gradually bring your hand closer.
Thank you for having the patience with this cute little furball.😾🙀😽😸😺😻
Super cute that once the petting is initiated, the hissing stops.
fostering cats is so rewarding. if you have a corner for a pet play pen u can foster kittens. it’s so important and we need more foster parents out there
Itty bitty spicy kitty is just so cute! So amazing how he or she calmed down over time and started to trust humans! Extremely cute kitten too, love the colors and pattern ❤
This makes my heart happy! ❤ I adopted an old cat from a shelter. The people had to literally give him a sedative to put him in the cat carrier. He hid in my pantry floor for 48 hours. After that, he lived on my lap. Some babies just need love! ❤
Great story. Some cats need time to warm up to you. You just have to be patient.
Reminds me of my Tabitha, found in a dumpster as a baby, who eventually lived to 17 years old, mostly curled up purring against my legs. Thank you for loving on this sweet kitty.
I love how you can always see that realisation somewhere of "oh this actually feels really nice"
Such patience and finally the kitty trusts. 🙏
took me one day to calm down a kitten that fell out of my ceiling. didn't feed him one day. (he had water) the next day I took food in & could pick him up & never had anymore trouble.
It's most important to give them space, let them explore and feel comfortable, then they will eventually realise that you are not a threat and start approaching themselves
I tried that with other ones and they do not let me touch them, if you give them a place to hide, it will be very difficult to socialize.
Yes! Best to not even touch them at first! And I always spray the Feliway calming spray inside their cage. I always play cat specific healing Frequencies, found here, on UA-cam. Then Always starting w/ tempting food on a baby spoon, making them eventually come to you for the treat. I have found success using a training clicker as well. It's super important doing the click properly, at the exact moment they are receiving the treat.
I highly recommend everyone check out "Kitten School" on UA-cam. She has Excellent tips & tricks that are very helpful.
@@Rosa_avila yup, you are right!
Nah, sometimes that could literally take a year. You have to make them realize you aren't a threat.
That's an interesting thought!
“You are still annoying, but tolerable”😂❤
The way they grab our hearts...even when they throw claws at us
I really appreciate this. I’m trying to help feral cats and community cats in my neighborhood and watching something like this gives me so much hope he’s poor little babies. They’re both predator and prey and I have such a sensitive nervous systems and a lot of people don’t understand that when an animal is reacting like that, they’re living in pure terror. Thank you for all you do to bring comfort to the abandoned.
You are appreciated for taking the time to work with this baby
Love how in the middle period it’s just like “ DONT TOUCH ME--oh right this feels nice nvm”
I'd have that little bastard purring and loving within a week. Feral kittens are so much fun to work with.
I've raised so many stray ferel cats and once they trust you they're the sweetest
Its good thing to know that people take the time to help these babies so they can find homes. Thanks for caring great job
I can understand that kitty reacting
I glad you understood and being patient with the kitty to trust you “ that’s love “💗
We all have to appreciate people with the time and patience to make an angry/scared animal become trusting and soft
Been there, done that, it took a while but the emotions you experience when they begin to react to the gentle touches and respond to them are priceless.
They are. I remember when mine first started purring.
Thank you for treating that kitty with love and patience❤
I love the moment you can tell (s)he is like, "ooo, wait, that feels nice!"😂
Scared baby. ❤ patience, treats, and stability work well.
I've been feeding a few ferrel cats over by a church but they told me to get rid of them. I was devastated because I had already adopted n domesticated two of them...and had no more room at home for more cats ...I quickly came up with a plan which was to request permission from the next door to feed them in his back yard . The neighbor reluctantly agreed as long as it was just thier bowls for food..so I feed them every day there at the neighbors . In the mean time I hav been trapping and getting them fixed....I feel alone in this endeavor no support group of like minded caring people ........no proper shelter in most counties here in Wyoming......there are two small groups of rescues but rarely ever answer the phone .....I m getting attached to some of the ferrel cats ....I named them all...I'm a bit discouraged n sad because I haven't seen about half of them lately not sure where they are.....
I know the feeling. I had a feral cat that gave birth at neighbors property every year, she has a litter now and now she disappeared and I am feeding and socializing 4 kittens.
Reach out to other people who do spay and neuter work they should be able to help you get info to apply for grants.
