Was in a river near there doing a freshwater pearl mussel survey when a sounder of boar appeared on the bank. They stopped and looked at me really confused about this daft human was doing up to his waist in the river😂. I was in need of new waders after that.
They lived here before but we're hunted to extinction around 300 years ago. The modern ones are mostly pigs that escaped farms and have gone feral as well as a smaller number of actual wild boar that escaped captivity.
@@pluffer96 I helped a mate who rehomed pot bellied for years (I grew up on a farm and was the only person he could find who wasn't scared) and one rescue made his garden look like the Somme overnight also destroyed a panel door. We only kept them in concrete sties so never had that problem. From what I've seen they are more effective than a rotorvator on unbroken ground.
@@frechwieoskar8052 - Wrong. The wild boar in Texas are descendants of boar brought over from Europe, not simply feral pigs, though they have occasionally interbred with them. This hardly matters, however, because it only takes a few generations living in the wild, for the descendants of domestic pigs to become unrecognizable from their primeval cousins.
@@frechwieoskar8052 - [sigh] First, that's what "wild" means. Second, wrong. The boar in Texas were originally imported as game animals. Now they run rampant. Third, _any_ breed of domestic pig will revert to a primitive state, along with appearance, when left in the wild, after only a few generations.
@@varancophow do you get into hunting in Scotland? Im in Aberdeen but would like to get into the scene and help save the landscape. Any contacts/advice is appreciated. Thank you
I thought they are a keystone species, very good for the habitat
Very wrong, they can plough a field in a matter of hours and they kill lambs ect

Pigs will plough big areas overnight, not good for habitat.
I beg to differ on that one? We just need to keep them in check? They are really good for habitat, after all they are native of the UK.

Any contacts for opportunities to hunt them?
The UK's best known sounder of about 900 wild boar is in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.

Monsters are more than 250kg (500 pound)
In the southern US, pigs are dispatched with 5.56mm rifles using 68gr bullets. Yes a 308 wlll do it [and the tree it stands in front of] but why?
Get dogs or bait creamed corn holes and shoot ‘em
