Im guessing its on another frame thats a tad longer. thats why they added the two inches to the fender. is it possible its actually a lincoln with a merc clip? id take the filler strip out and put them back so your hood fits. then cut and reshape the wheel opening to fit if you have to. lots of work but you got a good start. looks cool.

That was my first thought too. I would just leave it and work on the hood.
