I left colorado Springs 8 months ago. The traffic, road conditions, fatal road crashes , and violent crime were out of control. I miss the weather and being in such close proximity to the beautiful scenery but I am glad I left
I think the only thing thats keeping my mom and I from returning to Colorado is lack of water. Living in Florida we got a backyard overlooking a pond and golf course, crazy thunderstorms. But the heat sucks doo doo here 😂. Growing up in Colorado springs the front range and mountain range beautiful views, military around is so cool, seeing jets fly around. Military cargo trains crazy. Plus always went to Dragon Mans. So many positives but its that lack of water and crazy house market.
The bottom line is no place is perfect. I suppose San Diego used to be perfect but then high taxes and cost of living ruined all that - so back to no place is perfect. It is all about tradeoffs. I used to live in Orlando, Florida - which, when I mention that, so many comment why I could move here from a paradise like that? Yeah, spend a summer in Orlando, then tell me how great it is. Orlando was great for those that are mostly house bums and can afford to spend a car-payment on AC (my bill was frequently over $800 per month) and then go to the theme parks during the off peak season. I lived there because I worked for a major employer that owned a few castles. Orlando is nice for about 3-4 months out of the year. If I had to live in Florida again, I would go for a coastal city to benefit from the sea breeze, but not Orlando. Orlando is just a swamp flanked by beaches (about an hour away) - which are only good for sunbathing - no real waves. And, good luck finding car/home owners insurance. Not really much for outdoor activities beyond water parks. They had a few rail-trails, but I would only attempt doing those early in the morning. There are few natural springs - if you don't mind fighting a few alligators for a place. Colorado Springs, I can actually eat outside a good bit of the year. Yes, it gets cold but you can always put on more layers. Because of a lack of humidity, the heat/cold hits differently. I'd take -10F in Colorado Springs before 40F in Orlando. We also get some relief at night as it dips into the 60s and even 50s at night in the summer. My main issues with the weather so far - occasional extreme cold (below 0), wind, and the dryness. Lotion, chap-stick, and carrying water bottles everywhere are now part of my life. Snow isn't a big deal here - most of the time - normally melts off within a day or so. I moved here for the mountains - both the views and to play in. I went skiing 13 days last season, so I feel like I got my money's worth. Colorado isn't cheap, but just worth it (to me). If you can afford to live here and don't mind the few problems, it's a great state. If you can't afford to have fun here, then living in Colorado is a bit of a waste - might as well move to the mid-west for half the cost.
Still the best state in recent years to move to!! 🙌🏼 We have it all here!
