    I bought the DP51 as soon as it was made available in the market. Indeed it is a magnificently made firearm with a very unique feature of the fast action trigger. The South Korean armed forces would not have adopted it as its standard side arm if it had inherent flaws. I sold several of my pistols that didn't meet my expectations. The DP51 is still with me to this day and for keeps.

    I love my DP-51c. It's Smith & Wesson-esque, for sure--but I feel it's more refined, overall. Very high-quality piece of hardware made to military standards. As far as this gun being "un-safe"... initially, I had the tendency to flick the trigger back to single action, aim then fire. Which is fine, I guess... but... if you get ahead of yourself and start flicking the trigger back BEFORE you're on target... well, you know. As you said, stopping the pull in SA position isn't always easy. Long story short: pull the Fast Action trigger all in one stroke--don't try to stop it in SA, re-aim and fire it. I find the trigger works very well if you treat it like a very, very light double action. Good to see videos from you again. Your P5 and P1 videos were hallmarks of my early days as a burgeoning gun nut.

    I have two of these pistols in .40 S&W. They are called DH40. I purchased them new in the late 90's with two 10 round mags. It was during the stupid clinton mag ban and older 12 round mags would not fit. At the time I was a revolver man and these are the only semi auto pistols I will ever own. I love them and will never sell them even though I am too old to use them anymore. I put over 1000 rounds through them and had one stove pipe on the first round out of the second mag on one of them. It must have been a bur on the mag lip. After that I never had another malfunction. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who can gets their hands on one.

    The DP51 fits the Fobus SG-21 holster (designed for the SIG P220/P225/P226/P228/P245 [and the associated S&W 39xx, 40xx, 59xx, and 69xx series]). And it is available in a LH version.

    So...can't you carry it cocked and locked in SA also? As far as lowering the hammer manually to DA, shouldn't it be the same as lowering the hammer manually on a CZ 75? I get that it's probably not ideal compared to a gun with a dedicated decocking mechanism.

    • @firydeth

      You can carry it cocked and locked, but is not necessary.

    I remember my company commender using the K5 service pistol when I was doing my service in the Korean Army.
    I believe that most officers who are issued with K5 seem not to be aware of its triple action trigger.
    South Korean military had used 1911 for a few decades before they replaced them with k5. Soldiers are likely to carry their pistol if they do, cocked and locked or with chamber emptied.

    • @martclark2128

      I can't imagine a trained soldier carrying this pistol on an empty chamber. Cocked and locked. Sure. Or hammer down, safety off in double action plus mode. Then you have the benefit of single action trigger without the hammer back to scare unknowing civilians.
      But never on an empty chamber.

    • @TheElton126
      @TheElton126 3 місяці тому

      @@martclark2128 Soldiers keep their firearms stored in armories during peacetime, only taking them out for training or certain duties. Loading live ammunition is only done in situations requiring shooting, like marksmanship training. During guard duty, except for marksmanship training, I inserted a magazine loaded with blank rounds into my rifle but did not chamber any live rounds before starting duty. Live rounds are usually stored in safes with locking mechanisms within the base or carried by senior personnel. However, soldiers stationed near the North Korean border must chamber live rounds when going on 9duty.
      In civilian areas, except for special circumstances, individual soldiers do not carry live ammunition. In summary, except for units stationed near the North Korean border, chambering live rounds is rare outside of training.
      Especially during non-shooting exercises, soldiers carry their firearms but do not carry any ammunition. I want to emphasize that issuing live ammunition to individual soldiers in areas other than the border region is definitely not a routine occurrence.

    "If you can find one." Very seldom will an owner sell one unless poverty is involved! I had one for years and dearly miss it. SUPERB shooter in any mode---the trigger pull was smooth in any style, and I have never shot so well or with such confidence with any other gun. Through hundreds of rounds of all kinds I NEVER had any kind of failure---AND IT WAS VERY ACCURATE. Not heavy, and NOT BIG---it fit a Glock 19 leather holster perfectly. Beside the S&W series 59 magazines fitting Daewoo, the Daewoo mags fit the Kel-Tec P-11 double stack 9mm perfectly. And you did not mention how SLICK that slide was on that forged aluminum frame, like BUTTAH......…………………...….elsullo

    I hate to ask, but do you know anything about parts compatibility, specifically with the slides and barrels, between the DP51 and its 40 cal counterpart, the DH40? I'm betting a DP51 slide assembly will plop right onto a DH40 frame and vise versa like many other pistols of the era... but I could be wrong.

    is the 3rd action fluid ? or a reset ( constant pull will fire in 3rd ? )

    • @firydeth
      @firydeth  2 роки тому

      If I understand your question correctly, the triple action, or fast action trigger pull is unusual. If you pull it very slowly and carefully, there will be a little bit of resistance, then the hammer and trigger will jump back to the single action position, and then it will be a normal single action trigger pull - a wall, then a fairly crisp break, though a little heavy.
      However, a slow careful pull is not really its intended use. It's meant to be pulled quickly, as you would if the gun were in single action. In that case, it's just a long single action pull. As I said, unusual, but if used quickly under stress, it's not noticeable.

    Man.. got a story of how I know about this gun. Worked at a small town police department In the 90s and the city.. the chief.. decided to save some money by purchasing these as the department issued sidearm. Before this we had to buy our own handgun and everybody was different. They wanted to get us to all having and using the same so we can be trained the same on paper..which makes sense when it comes to any potential future lawsuits. I was issued this one day and I was shown how to do the hammer deal. My first thought was it'll be 2 days before somebody accidentally discharges this. It was.. to me now this is opinion.. this was dangerous as hell.
    Edit: maybe was earlier version now i watch more but was 96 97 or so. Also yeah somebody on range etc could fairly safely use this but first hand experience I can tell you that when the crap hits the fan and you go to pull this out that's where the issue is. The pressure situation means you're not gently pulling a trigger to half cock etc or whatever. That was just my opinion..thx guys.

    Cant even get them in the US anymore. The reasonably priced LH9 from lionheart industries has morphed into the 1300 dollar plus regulus. I don’t know about you folks but 1300 bucks is seriously overpriced for a 9mm pistol. Even at today’s insane overpricing 1300 is an awful lot of money to shell out for what’s basically a service grade 9mm from Korea
