Holes in the brackets, eyeball a straight line an evenly spaced. You're calibrated eye does you credit Kieth.

I like your simple no nonsense approach and teaching that not all things need to be super accurate depending on the service in which are part is to be used. This is really good advice for those beginning in live steam modelling and will, I'm sure, give those the confidence to forge ahead. I am looking forward to the series

That's a good point. When I volunteered in the Search and Rescue (SAR) network we were always taught that the calibrated "mark-one eyeball" was the best technology you had.

I look forward to seeing this series as I have been thinking of getting a Stuart 504 boiler to run my Stuart Victoria.

Your videos remark often " comments on doing it wrong ". Is that a running gag or is that really something you get so often ?
I really like your videos and have learned a lot, so no negative comment from me.

Hello Mr Appleton, If I remember correctly, that's the inner fire box. That goes in the Stuart boiler? They handled everything very well. looks good. Greetings Michael

when i could still be useful, i used to drive my son-in-law nuts using a well calibrated Eyeball Mk 1 . . . i did a few years as a draftsman and worked a lot in ⅛ scale . . . i was designing lighting and a lot of fixtures are 4' long (½" on the drawing) or 2' or 8' . . . son-in-law rented a sheet metal brake and i would help him line the metal up to make trim for the windows in his house . . . he would say he wanted a half-inch of stick-out and fiddle with his end for a bit before coming over to check my end . . . it was almost always dead on . . . much rolling of eyes ensued.

I made a flash boiler using a coil of automotive steel brake line. The boiler is fed by a fixed displacement pump (peristaltic). so the hot tube only gets a fixed amount of water and can only produce a fixed amount of steam. I also have a pop valved at the pump end between tube and pump. I use only the bare minimum of heat. I can tell because too much water and not enough heat and I get hot water out the end. So far I have not blown myself up BUT>>>>> am I doing something stupid??

Blowing up a Flash Steam Boiler is not the same as in a conventional steam boiler, as there is not a large volume of high pressure, very hot water in a Flash Steam Boiler.

With enough practice your Calibrated Eye will even tell you that a measurement was out.

But What IF it could end up as part of a satellite in the future? Then what? Wouldnt that be embarassing.
