I quit 3 years ago. I ran for 11 years 50 marathons a bunch of ultras almost broke 3 hours in a marathon at the age of 45. I’m 53 now and I’ve been back for 4 weeks. I’m building the foundation! I’m grateful for just to be running. I’m running slow but I’m running. I missed it!
Impressive!! Welcome back, I know my comeback was a little tough just had to deal with knowing what I could do before and having to mentally digest the body I was in during my come back… But now I’m back and feeling great over a year and a half later…you got this, slow and steady!💪💪💪💪
@@motivationtheoryrunning it’s been a big humble experience so far. But I’m not complaining. 3 years was a long time off. I’m 30 days back in to it. I’m working on those old routines again. I’m looking so forward to getting back! Thank you for the motivation!
Needed this! Thank you. I was running so much in 2013-2014 and life happened. Got back to it last year until the pandemic happened. Trying to get back into it this year but need to remember to still take it slow.
That was cool after 3 months out due to overloading myself with work and family this was what i needed to hear as i mentally bring myself back to the thing that has helped me most in life..running.
I’m a 4:52 miler officially and 4:48 none official, had to miss my first college season and I took online school so I couldn’t keep up with my training but now I’m getting back into it my body can handle it but my lungs can’t and getting back into it is soooo hard
Just found this. It's what I needed, lost discipline after years of running. Starting back tonight, 30 pounds heavier won't make it easy but thank you for this video.
Been there many time! One day and a time consistency builds momentum and motivation that turn into results and then your right back where you want to be! You got this!💪💪💪
Thank you man needed to hear some tips to get back in to shape been a runner 🏃♂️ for years and this last year was so stressful and been not running for a year now and need to get back in to the game ...thanks again.
solid advice! Had been dealing with an ankle injury since July and more recently with a lower back injury as well. Evey time I felt just a little bit better I'm excitement took over, upped my running miles and end up right back where I was. The past two weeks I've been feeling much better again but have kept my running very low, however given my job I've been able to do a lot of walking anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day with plenty of stairs mixed in. Still feeling awsome and tomorrow my early Christmas present arrives, treadmill, so I can ease back into higher running miles with less impact 🤞
I have been out of the game for a while and i made the mistake of running straight out of the door just like i used to do. Big mistake , my heart was saying go for it but my body says otherwise. Going to try walking for a few weeks and go from there. Great advise thank you.
I run one day after no running for months and I run straight to 5k. The day after, I couldn't walk properly cuz I had pain on my ankle. I guess i over stressed my ankles and gave up. I also gave up running and trying to run again this year by your method. Tnx!
During my time that I was not running I had several failed attempts to start again before this last time… Just don’t try to do too much too soon and be OK with just getting out there for any distance.
It’s good to review these tips as I am making a comeback of my own from having my thyroid removed due to cancer. I am definitely utilizing the principle of listening to my body as it is not the same after surgery as it was pre surgery. My HR is currently about 15-20bpms higher than it used to be just walking as I recover from surgery.
Progressive loading and patience are the key. And also, no excuses 👊 (saying this as I just skipped my morning run because I felt "tired" and decided to "give my body a break"...). Thanks for sharing your tips and experience!
I went for a 1.5 mile trot this afternoon. I didn’t stop once and went at a very slow and comfortable pace. I felt like a nerd while people sprinted past me lol but I was out there doing it. I feel good about my achievement today considering I’ve been out of it for a while but I’m curious to see if I’ll feel wrecked tomorrow lol.
The thing is, you got out there and did it. I'm getting my head around doin things correct. Like goin slower and building up. Don't feel stupid your out and happy.
@@xxyxnxwxaxx9724 thank you! This was 5 months ago. I’ve now worked up to 3.5 mile runs at a 9:30 pace . It’s amazing what the body can do when you don’t give up.
@@ECA-14 It is, I went through basic training for the British parachute regiment when I was 17 I realised the human body can be pushed far beyond you realised. It's all about keeping injury free. We'll done on the 3 and a half miles, that's good pace 👌. You'll only improve we'll done mate.
Nice tips John. I have problems with slowing down. Making the easy runs easy and the hard runs hard. No real training plan has put me at running on my own in preparation for my 50K at the end of the month. I've worked back up to 40 miles a week though.
Great stuff! Watching your comeback, and experiencing my own, in 2020 has been awesome. I can't wait to see what 2021 brings. My treadmill should arrive in a few weeks, and I'm looking forward to 11pm runs!
Fuck bro, solid advice!! I was too hard on myself I gotta remind myself I was off for 2 years and I’m not 16 again I can’t just get up and go lol I appreciate it bro I’m back at today cause of this vid!!!
I wish I watched this earlier ha ha ha, I'm ex army my mentality is pathetic. Deep down I no I'm wrong. But I haven ran for years. I went today for a 4 mile run and ran fast. 8.30 miles I'm 17 stone fairly fit as In don't drink and smoke. My next outing I will do this. Walk and run as I'm not getting younger I'm 39 this year. But I always have that world in the back of my mind. WEAK. what we where called in depo for walking. Old school millitery attitude. Very much was wrong.

I just signed up for a 24-hour in May. The nice thing about timed races is you can run or walk as far as you want. No worries about time cutoffs.
Awesome!! ATR?

Did the COVID vaccine hurt your running?
No and COVID didn’t either
