Most of the time when a full cross pattern includes 1/2 crosses they are done with only 1 strand. It makes the background more subtle.

I don't remember where I read or saw it, but I was told to use just the two strands on 14 ct for half stitch to create a highlight or shadow effect.

When my hand starts hurting I change how I stitch. I prefer the sewing method but it makes my hand hurt after awhile. Moaning Myrtle! lol Reminds me of Harry Potter. Here we just call ourselves whiners. LOL I thought you use the same amount of thread for half stitch as you do for full, but I haven’t been doing it long.
You do use the same amount. Where I got cpnfused 8s when you dont do full crosses on your normal stitch and want to doubke You double up. If that makes sence🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️❤️❤️🌟🌟

Sorry about your hand Sanet. When a pattern calls for half stitch it’s normally to create a shadow effect in the design so if not completing the entire project (by choice) in half you actually only use the normal thread amount (in this case only two threads) to create the shadow effect. Four would be a choice for full coverage only .. Hope I’m making sense

14/16 ct 2 strands. 11ct 3 strands. So same amount like you do your fullstitch. I heard of the double up too and made the same mistake and struggled the same way like you did here. Its hard to get it out again and it just doesnt look good at all. Veeeery frustrating... 🤨 2 strand are much better. Also its meant to show alot of the canvas. Its mostly used for shadows or foggy areas etc. It looks weird because you still see parts of the symbols but once you washed it it will be so much better 😊 imagine like having background dancers in a show. You notice them but the dancer/singer will be the mainattraction. 😉
but pls be careful. When it hurts you so much than better take a break. I can wait till youre fine again 🩹❤
