The Vans Duct Tape + Cape Town July 2022 + FINALS DAY

The Vans Duct Tape Invitational - Joel Tudor and his entourage of the world best hand picked loggers descend on the shores of Cape Town South Africa.
We showcase the eclectic cool of the Vans Duct Tape Invitational Day 1, when Joel Tudor and his entourage of the world's best hand picked loggers descended on the shores of Muizenberg near Cape Town, South Africa. They put on a stupendous display of style and grace, while on the land, the vibe was electric as the surf culture-starved locals frothed to see their heroes close up, and wondered at the refined beauty of the latest longboards. Fans enjoyed a range of activities, including shaping demos, live music from DJs to jazz and rock, food stalls, and the infamous anything goes Duct Tape paddle races. This has laid the platform for a giant leap in SA surfing and surf culture.
Muizenberg was the venue for this year’s Duct Tape Invitational and Surf Festival, which celebrates the diverse creativity and talent within the longboard community.
Marking its 10-year anniversary in 2022, the Vans Duct Tape event series gathers an international community of surfers, artists, and shapers, spotlighting talented longboarders globally with an emphasis on style and originality and shining a light on radical experimentation through unique surfboard shapers and their craft.
Hosted in the hub of Surfer’s Corner on Muizenberg beach - an iconic community where local surf culture is alive and thriving - the Duct Tape Invitational stop will welcome 32 longboarders to compete over the course of a three-day contest, featuring a women’s and men’s competition offering equal prize purses across each division.
Beyond on-site shaping activations, the interactive event will provide plenty of opportunities to connect with local culture, including a Duct Tape Skate Jam, a beach clean-up, and a variety of workshops and on-site sustainability experiences.
In support of a diverse and inclusive surf environment, fans and spectators are encouraged to join Vans Duct Tape competitors and featured guest shapers in all the festivities, and to surf alongside these inspiring names. South Africans invited to participate include Steve Sawyer, Dylan Swindale, Dean Simpson and Sam Christianson for the men, and Crystal Hulett for the women. There are also two South African judges.
Vans Duct Tape Festival will also include Duct Tape Invitational Competition, Duct Tape Festival: Community Market and Workshops, Live DJ Sets & Band Performances and a beach cleanup.
