Excellent, excellent instructional! Your video provides excellent information to keep everyone safe. It also contains an attached clip showing how a microscopic spark can find its way into an open powder container. Some have explained such occurrences may be caused by static electricity; while I won't discount the possibility, in ANY case, keep that container effectively capped or closed! You have a thorough knowledge as well as a cordial yet authoritative manner in your presentations. Stay with that style! You're able to make even the most mundane BP subject interesting & enjoyable. Look, all of us with varied amounts of experience can certainly benefit from an accurate safety or operational review. Bad habits have a way of creeping into some of our practices, so congratulations on posting this instructional . . . & thanks for sharing!

Excellent.. This is a great tutorial, and refresher.. It's been (to many) years since I last took my T/C 50. Hawken out shooting.. It not only helped reestablish the ground rules, it also pointed out the very important "What Not" to do list! Especially the lose, free hinged, or 'break free' seals, and their importance.. Example: Years ago our whole house hearer was located inside, up against an exterior wall.. Access was from the outside, via a spring loaded catch on the door.. One night the pilot light failed to initially light the gas furnace.. When it finally did, the accumulated gas went off as well! I leaned that night WHY they had installed the spring loaded catch, as the door flung open, avoiding what would have otherwise been some major damage..

Very Good Advice and lessons and I Thank You Kindly! Just yesterday I was shooting my CVA Hawken. I had my powder horn, which I made and my brass flask that measures 30 grains. I started off with 60 grains and used my brass flask, that was to start. After I fire my first shot I found myself reaching for my brass flask instead of my horn and powder measure. I have plenty of experience but this shows how easy it is to make a mistake. I figured for the first shot the brass flask would be fine but a practice I quit yesterday, which was the first time I’d done this. Now it’s always the flask or horn in the brass measure, cap on then pour. Loading a muzzle loading gun does require some concentration in order to do things safely and properly. So developing good habits is essential. Thanks Again and Good Shootin! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

I watched a UA-cam video where the creator did blow down into the muzzle. I think my heart rate jumped up about 30 beats per minute. That action did absolute violence against every instinct of self preservation that I have. Never point a gun at your own head for any reason.

Wow! This video is a must watch. I’ve been shooting black powder for a couple years now, and I thought I was safe before. But I will be safer now, thank you!

Excellent presentation. In the last couple years I got into black powder. I did quite a bit of research. Though I am far from an expert, I got to be fairly knowledgeable. I learned a couple new things with this presentation. Never knew that an ember could find its way into a open container like that! I do keep my containers closed out of habit after pouring the powder, but it wasn't for that reason. It is now!

Never put your thumb over the muzzle when you snap your first cap, DON"T DO IT! I saw an old timer that forgot his gun was still loaded from his last hunt, blow his thumb off. I just point it towards the ground and snap the cap. Thx for the videos good stuff.

Thank you very much for these videos! I enjoy watching them. In the video clip of the cannon shooter...maybe that wasn't caused by an ember from his fuse or cannon firing, but from enemy counter-fire. :) They hit the magazine! But, when that container goes off...wow! That's not funny. I SHALL keep my containers covered! I SHALL NOT pour from the container into the muzzle. That is, if I'm ever able to get any black powder. I hope this isn't the end of the sport...no powder, no caps. :(

We can still get other brands of powder, Schuetzen or Swiss. Politics being what it is, everything shooting related is in short supply for now.

Seems like EVERYTHING about shooting is hard to find... except locks. We can find as many locks as we can haul off! Locks are EVERYWHERE! I was lucky. A friend stopped in at a small town shop and brought me 500 #11 percussion caps! I was thrilled because I'd checked several local stores ... empty. Talk about luck!

In germany it's not allowed to use a powderflask or horn or even a powdermessure at the range. You have to put the right amount of holy black to a small glass tubes with a cap.
At the range you just open the glasstube, pour the black into the barrel, put patch and ball and have fun.
Safetyregulations are very strickt at german shootingranges. And that's ok.Better be a bit strickt than be a bit dead.
