Leonardwood for some real shaping of true soldiers with A Company 1-48th, forget about a petty 6 week field training “summer camp”, can’t even stay in step, no discipline drill sergeant, think they need more corrective training drill sergeant lol. We rucked 12 miles every other week, ran 4 miles every other day and muscle failure those other days. We spent hours marching in formation down to a science and only senior knows how dedicated and willing we were to train how we fight. We slept little, went on night missions and raids that focused on realism and tactics or else we did it all again. Going through Basic Training and AIT really shaped those of us that went straight to ROTC afterwards to value our military bearing, strength, fitness and training.

However, I went through basic training and AIT for 17 weeks with the hardest and most squared away companies that when I arrived to my ROTC, everyone from the cadets to the LTC said I was the most squared away person. To have experienced all I went through to then go 4 years to become an officer really puts me in the shoes of the enlisted men I will later command and gives me the military bearing and discipline that many of my peers lack or will never receive.
This is amazing to me. I'm old. My father passed from wounds recieved in service, brother died in service. Both grandfather's served in ww1. I have never seen a military march. I've never seen military vehicles. Hubby was special forces and I know 0 about his service. It's a world I have been vigilantly kept away from.
@Adolfo Enrique Many of them worked for Obama too, the military isn't the one doing the politics, it is an arm of the government and the strongest diplomacy arm of the government, if needed it can end entire countries, and if it was required of them they would do it because theirs is not to reason why just to do it. West Point is the finest school in the US and while yes it taught some useless officers and some controversial ones, the majority of the ones we remember are the ones who did their duty to the country and not to any one man

There is height limit. But for your information, the most decorated officer in the US Army was just 5ft 5. Prussian Army in the other hand had an all-6ft-tall Regiment which was useless.

If being tall means a guaranteed operational competency, all SFOD-D members will be 6ft tall. But in reality they have all kinds of people and shapes. Same in the Navy SEAL, a munchkin boat (a squad filled with people in the shortest height percentile of the whole Buds class) during Buds can perform better than any other squads that are taller than them. Or in the Green Beret, Look at Roy Benavides or the story of Richard Flaherty (aka the Giant Killer). It reminds me of our march back from bivouac, it was 10 miles then we had to attack a position then after that we got a critique on how we did and know one was allowed to drink water. until after we were completely finished. West point men Where good officers.
the only thing that i dont like about the us marches sometimes. is that some of the soldiers dont have the same walking speed and they take extra steps sometimes if you know what i mean its hard for me to explain.

Why is there a quarter mile between the rear of the band and the cadets? If the cadets were buggered after their march, and couldn't keep up, the band should've slowed down their pace to keep station.

I can’t speak for marines but lots of foreign individuals get naturalized through the Army by serving, I knew 3 Filipinos, 1 Dominican, 1 Brazilian, 2 Mexicans, 1 Chinese and 1 German throughout my training at Ft. Leonardwood. They all passed BCT and AIT and got through it with determination and workmanship.
If you can't think of any other way to gather information about achieving your goal of becoming a MARINE than by asking questions in the comments of a video about the ARMY, you do not have either the smarts or the resourcefulness to become a Marine. Jeeze.

This is a West Point tradition for freshman to "March Back" about 12 miles from their six week Beast Barracks basic training with full packs.
