In General Patton’s words, “ Thank God such men lived.”
why was they smart
RIP General. Thank you for your long and faithful service to our country.
RIP, General. You set the banner high for good, honorable men. Thank you for your glorious service and for setting such a fine example for our young people in this country. You will be missed.
I knew Norman. He was a very wonderful man who created the Elementary School I went to. I met this man as a kid. May he forever rest in peace.
Your leadership gave those of us trapped inside Kuwait during Desert Storm hope, so we continued to wake up everyday and help take care of the wounded waiting for liberation ..... thank you Sir🙏
As a British soldier that he led in 1991, I find it somehow surreal, he has passed. He has always been a legend to me. I'm now fifty, but time deceives a bit.
Rotorhead99 MY SALUTE TO YOU SIR, TO ALL US AND BRITISH SOLDIERS...PHILIPPINES
It's scary isn't it. I remember that Christmas of 1990 wondering if father Christmas could get down the barrel of a tank like it was yesterday.
I was a little 18 year old. Now I'm a 48 year old grandfather whose is almost as close to 70 as 30.
Terrifying!
Thanks Rotorhead and Fishyc for your recollections.
WE LOST THAT WAR WITH HEAVY CASUALTIES IN BOTH LIVES AND MILITARY HARDWARE. THE IRAQIS/RUSSIANS WIPED THE STREETS WITH US. SORRY BOYS BUT YOUR GOVERNMENT LIED TO YOU ALONG WITH THOSE "WAR PIGS" UP IN THE PENTAGON WHO WILL BE ON THERE KNEES BEGGING GOD FOR FORGIVENESS FOR STARTING NEEDLESS WARS AND MISUSING MILITARY POWER TO SPILL INNOCENT BLOOD.

I've always had tremendous respect for General Schwarzkopf, he was an outstanding leader and a well respected officer! Rest in Peace sir, and you will not soon be forgotten! I would also ask that all negative comments be kept out of funeral service videos or videos here on UA-cam that are in support of our great country and service men and women! Thank You.
I remember him well during the time of Desert Storm all those years ago , and man he was the general and a great one to . Rest In Peace Big Bear 🐻
I was honored to be on his aircrew when he was the CINC of Central Command. When it was time for fun, he was the best but when time to be serious, he was that. He made sure we were taken care of and made sure his troops were protected and taken care of during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. His wife, Brenda, we used to call her Mom for she made sure we had cookies, candy, and other things for our TDY's to the MidEast. One time she told me not to let Norm have anything out of the snacks for he was on a diet. I said ok and once he tried to sneak some cookies out of a bag. I caught him and told him that Mom said he couldn't have this type snack. He looked at me like a sad puppy and yes, I let him have some cookies. He had a patch on his flight suit that no one else had and I begged him for 2 years to let me have it. On his farewell tour, he gave it to me and I still cherish it. A great man and I am so honored to have known him and be on his aircrew for 3 years. God Bless General and Rest In Peace.
Beautiful story

What patch was that?
@@yascoolskychief His Centcom patch. He was the onlyu one to have this certain patch.

My earliest hero. I was only 7 when Desert Storm broke out. I was so scared. I remember my mother crying hearing the first gunfire on TV.
Despite my young age, I was very perceptive. General Schwarzkopf was talked about much and I looked up to him and trusted him to protect our country. So when I heard those first shots, as my mother cried, I knew we would be ok.
A great General! I was a US Navy officer during Desert Storm and was glad we had a real fighter to lead us! Rest In Peace dear Sir!

@walter cuperidge You can thank Saddam Hussein. We waged war against him and his military not the people.
@walter cuperidge Those were moved to Syria during the build up of coalition forces. Assad used them to gas his own people. Saddam had created a major threat in the region to neighboring countries and instability in the whole region. Which would of affected us and most of the rest of the world eventually. And finally, he illegally invaded Kuwait, so he could control and have direct access to the sea for his oil production. Kuwait asked for help from the world including us, not to mention threatened our ally Israel. How's that for starters?
Rest N Peace Sir, ARCENT Damman.

Words alone are insufficient to describe how well respected and well liked the General was. Sir your service was with courage, valor, loyalty and dedication and I thank you for all you did for our country! Rest In Peace General!
What exactly did Schwartzkopf do to earn a Medal of Honor?
Bless all those who served honorably whether you are a private or general we all deserve praise and accolades regardless if you disagree with politicians which I cannot stand!!!!
To all those leaving negative comments. The General was more of a man than any of you could ever hope to be. Thank you General from this Canadian.

Professional, Dedicated, and Respected by all, even during the meeting with The Iraqi Generals at the end of Desert Storm, he showed respect towards them. A true "American Hero" brought to you by "The United States Military".Thank you Sir for your "Dedication to the protection of our great nation". May you rest in peace.
A True American Hero. May God protect his soul.
Why was he a hero?
@Christopher Bogie Because I don't have a huge, powerful army to beat up a much weaker foe. That's why.
@Christopher Bogie And how did that effect the price of your cheap hamburgers in the U.S.? Who appointed you world policeman?
@@SteffiReitsch you do. You’re too pompous and arrogant to stand up for yourself.
Rest In Peace, General. We never forget your service and advice to the South Vietnamese 9th Airborne Battalion when you are a Major. You have done an outstanding service!!! THANKS YOU!
This is the best American General in current time. Unfortunately, he was not promoted to a 5 star general as he deserves to be. You are the General of the Army in my eyes!!! Rest in peace in the love of our God!
Rest in peace Sir! Proud to have served under you during Desert Shield/Storm.

Difficult to lose a leader like Norman 👍
I remember an interview he gave. He showed the white business card from his wallet. He was given that by the French Foreign Legionnaires. He was made an honorary member. He was told that any time he was caught in trouble and needed a quick response and evacuation he was to call and help would come by them no matter where on the planet.

Britain rightfully honoured this great military man by knighting him. So technically he was General Sir H. Norman Schwarzkopf KCB. Because he is not a British subject, General Schwarzkopf did not have to kneel and be tapped on the shoulder by Queen Elizabeth II when he was knighted. The Queen simply handed him a box containing the cross and silver star of the Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. He was only the ninth US military so honoured. And truly deserved.
Elizabeth II honorablely knighted both Gen. Schwarzkoph and Powell. But because neither is a British Subject, the 'sir' is only for that day.
According to British Laws, and the Queen, only those born in Great Britain, Canada, Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand can be knighted/damed with the OBE.
Jimmy G.
Not quite correct my friend. They would not use the title 'Sir' or 'Dame' as they are not British Subjects and have no allegiance to Her Majesty but they do retain the Letters KCB after the name. There are different Knights Garter but I am afraid the OBE is not one. That is the Order of the British Empire.
You also have a violation of US law in that to fully accept a knighthood, one must bend the knee and swear fealty to the sovereign.
I never knew this fact! Interesting.
1chish - American citizens knighted by the United Kingdom are not properly called “Sir Norman” or whoever in the United States. Source: The Protocol School of Washington.
Highest respect to you General. RIP
He was a great general, he was a great soldier. We need more great leaders like him today. Sorry to see he was disrespected by being cremated they should have honored him by burying his body and not burned it.

What an impressive expression of respect for a fallen warrior!
I served under his command for awhile! He retired before Iraq invasion, part two!
He was a proven war fighting leader whom grasped what humanity can be. I knew he passed away, but I must've been distracted, down range!
God bless him!
He took each casuality serious & with good faith for God. He didn't risk our lives for the glory of it! He had less casualty losses than most! That's called leading & fighting with a conscience!
His earned respect says it most!
So sorry to read this....god bless you,sir... from Ireland.
A great man and soldier who served his country
What a deeply moving video presentation of the Funeral of one of our greatest military commanders. Thank you
It's a pity he never received his 5th star. "Stormin' Norman" deserved to be a "5 Star".
That rank is in abeyance. When it was created, Congress specified the sailors and soldiers to be promoted. The subsequent promotions of Bradley and Halsey, plus the creation of a new rank for Arnold, also required Congressional approval. There is also the issue that creation of just one 0-11 would change our command structure enormously.
A fifth star for a general as a reserved for times of extraordinary emergency that's why they're so few of them.
Thank you for share this video.

Soldier rest! thy warfare o 'er,
Sleep the sleep that knows not breaking ! Dream of battlefields no more,
Days of danger, nights of waking.

He did his duty. May he rest in peace.
As an aside, for those of you who either did or didn’t notice the uniforms of the New Jersey State Police, what an awesome show of respect. General Schwarzkopf’s father was the first Superintendent of the NJSP, seems like they too remember absent companions and came to show their respect and gratitude to both Senior and Junior Schwarzkopf’s.
Is it true that his father was among the detectives investigating the tragic Lindbergh baby kidnapping?
@@largol33t1 his dad led the investigation.
Leaders come and go as do the changing seasons but every great now and then you are blessed with a leader who stands out from the others...an individual who has the integrity and ability to lead men into the worst possible scenario man has to offer...war... and at the same time humanitarian enough to not only care for the souls placed under his guidance and command but those in opposition to him as well as those who are innocent yet suffer loss due to the conflict surrounding them! It is an honor, & privelage, to be able to observe this service ...deeply grateful to all 🙏 ...great man, General, and leader 👴
Great man and Commander. RIP sir.
Most people know him as a General or commander of CentCom and Desert Storm, and the things he did after his retirement. But to know the man is to read of his exploits as a junior officer and before he reached Flag Rank. He was a formidable opponent, a good leader and an Officer who cared for and understood the role of the enlisted man. He was a consummate professional Military Officer.
He was also our Commanding General, so I am extremely sorry that there were no Brits there to say goodbye. It was his plan and his personality that meant so many of ours and yours, were able to return home. Rest in Peace Sir, you have earned it.
My hats off the you sir, thank you for our freedom. I’m all ways in your debt.
Schwarzkopf was highly decorated in South Vietnam Airborne, being awarded three Silver Star Medals, two Purple Hearts, and the Legion of Merit. Rising through the ranks after the conflict, he later commanded the U.S. 24th Infantry Division and was one of the commanders of the Invasion of Grenada in 1983.
Didnt know that.
