Multiplying Binomials by the FOIL Method
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- We just learned how to add and subtract polynomials, so now we have to learn how to multiply them. This is a little tricky at first, but once we master the FOIL method, it's easy as pie!

This is my 33rd video in three days. You’ve done wonders to help me, a highschool drop out, make strides towards getting my ged and improve my life. Your videos have given me so much confidence already I cherish this playlist so much thank you for showing me the elegance and beauty of math that the education system tried to hide from us. They over complicate it and make it boring intentionally so we don’t have a thirst for knowledge when we’re older. I’m trying to work against that programming and your videos have helped that process so much!!! Thank you a million!!
I'd thought it would be a lot harder than It came out. Thanks prof for everything; even though it's years old, still helping learners like me to learn.
Anyone else getting assignments from school that we haven’t learned how to do
nah
Nope
Performance Task, but yes
My Teachers lazy and gave us this vid instead of teaching us.

Tried multiplying the trinomials at 5:10 in my head. Ended up with "3x^2 - y^2 + 2xy + 2x - 6y - 8." Could be completely wrong, but even just being able to attempt this without pencil and paper is more progress than I ever thought I'd make in just a few days. It's small, but I feel like I'm evolving thanks to this series. It's a cool feeling. Thanks for making these.
Thanks a lot Professor Dave that was helpful!
i think you're the best teacher i've ever seen
This Video is Amazing it helped me so much with my Performance Task in Math Keep up the Great Work.
Glad you explained that what you're actually doing is applying the distributive property of each monomial twice. Most teachers just tell you to memorize FOIL without explaining. So I tried something a little different and distributed each monomial by the binomial term separately, which ended up being Last Inner Outer Middle and it gave me the correct answer. Just curious as to whether this would work every time.
It should work every time
Edit: just realized, this is 2 years old
FOIL to LIOF same steps but backwards
This playlist really helped me recalling all my knowledge in mathematics. Thank you so much Professor Dave!
his introductory music became national anthem for science.
Man I love this guy he is so good at explaining
Good teacher,love from India 🇮🇳
Nothing more heavenly then getting all the questions right!
My teacher just sent me this link, it actually is helpful, btw you can use this strategy on all polynomial expressions and equations right?
FOIL is only for binomials.
You are the best
I learned so much from this series 😊
When you feel satisfaction in solving equations then you're on the right track...
This topic was incredibly interesting and simple
thanks for getting me interested in math and science!
Thank you for teaching me!!!!!!!! I subscribed to you!
A bit confused about "listing according to convention". Why can we do it if subtractions are not commutative?
This video is a life saver, talk you!!!
Thanks alot fropesor dave it helpful
Thank you so much I'm writing a test tomorrow and you have saved me
i love the intro and thanks this helped a little
Thank you so much for making this clear. I'm confused all the time!
This guy knows how to explain stuff
I'll come back here if I ever have trouble with math class (^_^)
(1) X² + 12
(2) x² -1
(3) 6x -45
wow this was so helpful! :D thanks a lot!
Thank you for teaching me! Subscribing!
Thank you so much 😊😊
Thank you
very helpful video
Yes, I agree.
6x^2 - 17x - 45
Done this lesson.
I love it
Thank you, my math teacher explained it like a roller coaster so i understood nothing
May I know what is the related standard for this lesson?
If you did 2x-9y x+3y where does the y go in the third step of foil?
@Twerk-o-tron -9 times 3 is -27, and it would be -27y^2. Other than that, I believe you are correct.
2x^2 - 3xy - 27y^2
I know I'm late, but I really don't get the fourth comprehension. Did I miss something where you said you can split up the 6x^2 into a 2x in one binomial and 3x in the other? According to your earlier example at 5:23, I should calculate like this: [n(6x)+mx=-13x]. But none of the factors of -5 ((5,1 1,5 5,-1 -1,5 -5,1 1,-5 -5,-1 -1,-5)) add up to -13. Help!
nice for all of them
Thank you so much for this TvT
So it’s like you’re distributing but with several terms. Ex: (a+b)(c+d)=a(c+d)+b(c+d)=ac+ad+bc+bd
x^2 + 4x + 12
Teaching a demo lesson for Teachers Fellows soon, and this was explained a bit too fast for me.
1:00
x^3 + x - 2x^2 - 2
My prof just links your videos for our lectures hahaha
5:40 shouldn't it be -27x?
Its quite easy i only missed up the order in which it was in
BRUH MY BRAIN IS NOT BRAINING😭😭
When combining which sign do you choose?
Do you choose the sign of the higher value of the other?
How about (x + 3) (x + 3) ??
just foil it like i show you here!
(A+B)²= A² + 2AB + B²
Is it 2X+3X+3X+9
Great video! Just change your theme song. 😉
real
thats crazy
im not high on crak
Is using the box method ok?
I don't think there's any problem with it
Who’s here from Mr. swain’s class?
Link Faron me
I cannot go to school today because there is a quarantine lockdown so my mom says you'll let enroll online on July 15, 2020 to July 31, 2020
Why did -2x and +3x when combined become x?
because 3 minus 2 is 1
Aaah I see, thank you very much
@@actuallynowone6543 Lol
❤❤❤
So if I combine like terms... the all just become x? Even though in the last lesson I learned you add them together??? Huh?????
No, they are not all like terms.
king
how to nultiply binomial using foil method
Hey that is so easy
Why 4x+7x=7x
I know 4x+7x=7x2
(×-6)(×+5)=5
Pls help thanks in advance😊😊😊
The math jesus
IMO it's overcomplicating simple stuff.
It doesn't get any simpler than this, bud.
@@ProfessorDaveExplains with that being said, i am frightened,.
😂❤😂😢😮😊😮😢🎉🎉😊
Mr paratakis class
i'm 380th like
anyone here from ms. gregory’s class
no
We don’t care bro
Then why would you click on this, bro?
Savage 👍
You dont care bc you probably dont even understand it not even when they show you how specifically I've got an idea there's a option to slow down the video maybe there you would understand it BRO
@@ProfessorDaveExplains sir I love how you break it down. You help a lot of people
Mine is a bit more complicated. Please show me how to do this one. (2/3 - 6) (2/3 - 6).
Using foil:
(2/3 * 2/3) + (2/3 * -6) + (-6 * 2/3) + (6 * 6)
= 4/9 + -8 + 36
= 28 and 4/9ths
😂❤😂😢😮😊😮😢🎉🎉😊
