@@AphroLatinX OMG!! A whole year without an answer! So sorry. The five books, 5 novels of my life are, in this order, 1. Song of Solomon (Toni Morrison), 2. Ada or Ardor (Vladimir Nabokov), 3. Blood Meridian (Cormac McCarthy), 4. The Fact of A Body (Alex Marzano Lesnevich) and 5. Gravity's Rainbow (Thomas Pynchon) ^^ do you have any recommedation?? :)
I'm working through a list of american classics and just finished this book. Definitely in my top 3 from the 34 I've read so far. Wise Blood and The Sound and the Fury being the other two.
Toni Morrison talking about The Song of Solomon. People would quote the bible in regular conversation or they had lyrics from songs or journalism. Her mother sang like a dream. Before radio and television people use to walk around singing.
I’m listening to her read it now and not only is the writing exquisite but the reading is so beautiful. Her mother wasn’t the only one with a beautiful voice.
A most amazing and great talent in my opinion outstanding! Touching people with words of such strength and power a timeless talent all must take the time to remember.
We are in a fine mess now that she is gone . GREAT LADY : there will never be a writer like her again now ! Her novels are so mesmerazing, empowing, moving and mostly her work is a reminder of the History of Slavery . To honnor Ancient . She used to say "There are so many Black people who tend to forget way too easily all the atrocities theirs Great Grand Parents went through writing was mandatory"
What an absolutely wonderful book, full of so many layers and so political as she says all good art is. I just finished it for the first time, after owning it for many years and I can’t believe it took me this long to pick it up.
Just finished the book and ending was kinda disturbing. Why does he gotta jump off a cliff? Can't he get freed in his mind without dying. I guess it was written in 1977 so maybe it was a satisfying ending then.
I didn't think he would necessarily die. He and Guitar would have to fight to the death, but there's no telling who would win. Most importantly for Milkman, taking flight fulfilled his legacy, the one established by his great-grandfather and the one that was foretold on the day he was born.
@Enes Bergman: That's not how it ends. It ends [spoilers] with him and Guitar rushing at each other and about to kill each other. Milkman felt exhilaration in those final seconds and that's how he achieved his freedom. But if it were ever turned into a movie, we'd probably just see them kill each other.
The title of this is about a woman telling her story about her mother aunt and her own life. Nothing about song of solomon. She's just talking about her own life just as any regular dude. Her life is the subject of this content. I haven't even found anything biblical just pure my mother ,my sister, my life, my brother, my feeling, my memory.
i just finished reading song of solomon by tori morrison for school im so so so so so sso so so so so. angry that we never find out who wins in the fight guitar or milkman i thought milkman jumped off the cliff and died but it looks llike u said he jumped to fight guitar 0/10 book, pls have clear ending next time toni morrison
"You wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down.”
― Toni Morrison, Song of Solomon
Take profanity out of your comment and You will have Toni's approval!

Thank you for sharing!
I am at this video for an assignment for school and all I can say is that Toni Morrison is a beautiful soul
did guitar or milkman win the fight at the end though? most unclear ending ever
currently reading this book, my first of hers. She's amazing! Her writing and use of metaphor is just spellbinding.
my favorite one is when Hagar is looking at the make-up counter and the "pink lipstick is like a puppy's penis" lol

I just finished the The Song Of Solomon ✨ She really really took me to a different place with that amazing story. 🕊
Me too! Didn't expect to find so much magical realism in it. It's a unique story, masterfully told.

I always loved this song of songs; The Song of Solomon about the Black Shulamite maiden.

My favorite author🙏🏽😍
the most beautiful and talented woman
Next book on my list!
I just finish reading this and love some of the quotes. Great book but I wonder who won... the end just left me like OoO
Milkboy wins. He rode the wind.
Yeah that ending annoyed me. I wanted to more closure lol!
It's meant to end like jazz music, in an elevation, not closure... it is frustrating but damn she's good
Cool and every word she uses might as well be quoted.
beautiful
I'm readingthis book right now
So how was it?
@@brucejackson6451 It was enjoyable to read and very mysterious and engaging.

Does anyone know who the interviewer is/what year/where I can find a transcript of this so that I can quote it in an essay? Thanks!
MKisinthebuilding The interview is from 2004 after her Nobel prize if that helps you track it down...
Don't know when or where, but it sounds like novelist Molly Bloom doing the interview.
Oops, make that sounds like Amy Bloom, the novelist. Molly Bloom is an actress/skier.
"So as not to forget what the White people did to them " she said .
