I learned....that they failed to recognize the third type: Urban Tundra. Inside Large Cities where Former Automotive Factories and Train Yards used to exist, have since been demolished, leaving giant kilometer-wide Concrete Slabs as a footprint of what was once there! These flat, treeless regions, without atmosphere-inducing vegetation to cause natural rainfall are absent of it throughout much of the year, reducing soil quality and causing widespread Species Extirpation of Plants and Animals, which is illegal in Canada according to Federal Laws. These regions during Winter become places of Intense Windchill Gusts, becoming extraordinarily lethal during events of Polar Vortex, contributing to lose of human life, particularly amongst homeless and low-income families and children. These events also occur in Major Urban Centers, such as Downtown Areas, which are also void of Natural Vegetation and become Wind Tunnels due to the presence of Sky Scrapers. I live in East Windsor Ontario, next to one such Urban Tundra. People in Wheelchairs have died when crossing that area, the cold air freezing their batteries leaving them trapped overnight without anybody to hear their screams for help. Everything I have mentioned here, is absolutely true and avoidable, but is of no interest of Municipal, Provincial, or Federal Governments, to solve. People Are Dying, and the environment is already dead. This is the nightmare of Global Warming, it is real, and it is a killer.
I thought I remembered reading somewhere that in Nunavut Canada some of the small plants are technically trees but just aren't what we normally envision when we think of trees. Is that true?
Thanks Nat Geo, today I reviewed the meaning of tundra, learned that in elementary school and had forgotten about it. Thank you again. Amazing video but the information is top notch.
Uff it's too good and awesome presentation with effective and appealing approach towards the changing world. We aren't the only one who lives in that earth so we don't have any right to detoriate it.
. Polar bear, Arctic fox, Arctic wolf, lemming, Arctic hare, Arctic ground squirrels, caribou, musk ox, mountain goat, elk, ptarmigan, grizzly bear and snowy owl are some of the animals found in the tundra region. About tundra
There are three types of tundra territories: the Arctic tundra, the Alpine tundra and the Antarctic tundra ( source - wikipedia) And this video described 2 typ😢???
The growing season in tundras is 180 days - less than half a year! What new facts did you learn about this distinct ecosystem?
