Yes, GIRATS, but are there things you can actually fix in the mix? Let's find out.

Great video Joe! I feel like the one thing that can't be fixed in the mix is the performance. It's pretty hard to add say some 'angst' to some vocals, with a plugin. So if it's a great performance, but a little pitchy, I'm pretty happy to fix in the mix, and not ask the vocalist (usually me) for another take :)
that angst point, you can check out bobby huff's mutt lange tricks. he doubled some sorta whisper vocals on top of the main vocal for that effect
Nice video - GIRATS helpful term
I liked your bad snare sound. It has a vibe 😂
Good info. Thanks.
Great concepts but as a solo recording artist who also has other obligations and only so much time in the studio, it gets really difficult to get everything right at the source. Especially when you're trying to capture ideas quickly. This has been a somewhat more productive year for me but that's mainly because I've simplified my process. It's a bit of a toss up. Do i work; play; in my studio, or do I go with my wife to the cottage to go fishing? i live in Ontario and we have long cold winters so the cottage is almost always a winner. No complaints here! Fishing, sun, barbecues and beer. Sunshine and water. It's a win win! Or writing and recording in my dungeon/lovely little studio. Cottage always wins but this means some musical sacrifices until winter. Then the studio becomes my sanctuary. Love your show! I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now and you never fail to have great advice. For that i thank you!
I'm running Cubase 13 Pro with a Presnous StudioLive 32SC mixer. DO you have any tricks to getting outboard gear working with my DAW?
my god...I ain't got no ears. sometimes, I just can't identify the issues. Very helpful to learn what to look for in the wave...thank you
Thanks!
Always here
Hey Joe, love your videos
How do you treat your monologues? Like for example, what kind of compressor do you use (transparent or colourful) and do you think about gain reduction much?
Keep up the good work. Quality throughout
Limiter only.
I woke up at 3am the other night shouting, get it right at the source 😂
Question: I think you encouraged questions in comments?? If I am using S1 Pro and I have no plan to use “spacial audio” or ATMOS, can I disable it? Does it use resources or disk space if I am not using it? If I could “pluck it out” from my system I want to. Thanks!
Like most features, it doesn’t use resources if you don’t use it.
Great finger picking 👌 is it a Riley Green song? ‘Jesus Saves’?
I remember that snare top from the bonus tracks in your Home Mixing Course (you warned us in the notes).
I ended up adding a slap-delay, saturation, and eq to it. Did it sound 'good'? No....but it did sound better. Lol !!!
I'm curious: I rarely see you using dynamic eq. Is it to keep things simple for instructional purposes? Or - is there another reason (artifacts)?
Hey Joe
What kind of mic are you using on these videos?
from kenya
FIITM (fight’em) lol like fighting the tracks within your mix 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Do you sometimes add sample drums from transients with the live performed drums?
I'd try and salvage that one with an expander + fast limiter, something parallel, or even a negative compression with fast attack...
guitar part sounded cool wer just nerds
