- In this video I face off vs the King of Lightning on AfroSenju's stream, and we debate on if Dragon Ball Z at any time can be scaled to be faster than light in combat.
Felt like this was more of a debate on powerscaling in general than dragon ball, but hope y'all weebs enjoy regardless.

I honestly think I understand what lightning was trying to say. It's almost like having the mindset of there not being any absolutes, and using the things we don't know for certain to back up why it's not a known fact. That's why he says "maybe" and words like that because it's not a known fact. Many assume that the distance of the moon to earth on dbz is just like the distance in real life or that the universe is just as big or that is was buu attacking the planets in the clip. It's assumptions. So for all we know we could throw out all kinds of ridiculous sounding theories. Did we actually see him do it? How do we know he did it? There's many points to nitpick that would support the "you have no evidence proving it" argument. I think lightning could of done a better job at explaining it but he did well here too.

Because it's already been proven time and time again that just because someone in the show says it doesn't automatically mean it's true. So saying "they said it" isn't evidence automatically proving something is true because we already know that not everything said is true. Also, "unless there is evidence that the moon is closer to the earth then it's the same as our world"? No it doesn't work like that. The absence of evidence isn't the evidence of absence. That's just as much "truth" as saying "unless there is evidence that the moon is the same distance to the earth then it's closer." There's no evidence proving either is true. It's just assumptions.

It's likely the timeframe for Piccolo's beam hitting the moon was more like 10-20 seconds, so Raditz wouldn't be light speed.

Buu traveling from the other world to the living realm and the kaioshen realm almost instantly and no he doesnt know instant transmission because he never sees it used. He is just that fast. Being able to destoy the universe in a thousand years. And if we use super and the movies. Broly destroying the universe within 80 years and champa traveling multiple universe size realms in an instant to get to the supreme kai's planet and beerus traveling multiple nebulas in minutes to find whis.

Lets ignore the "slower for the audiences benefit" idea since, if the usual Super battle wasn't slower for our benefit, it would be moments of cahracters talking and freaking out, and literally only a couple minutes at most of a shitload of noises, maybe shockwaves, explosions and flashes of light appearing in the air and along the ground, and literally nobody being visible.
Or: The Camera capturing the battles in anime are all able to match the speeds of the protagonist at any point and it's not so much that it's slower for our benefit.

The anime is easily maleable in terms of lighting, time, etc. So how can you base ones claims off of a maleable source? (animation) Seth is wrong here. But the problem is that Seth used ANIMATION (not ANIME. there is a difference between ANIMATION and ANIME) to prove his point. He used the lighting of the animation to calculate Plancks constant. Which is absolutely stupid. Seth then used the many exploding planets to explain Buu is FTL. Which is another stupid point. These two scenes in DBZ are so maleable in terms of lighting and animation time lapse. These scenes are exaggerated only to please the audience. Not to be taken as a fact. You cant use these two scenes to prove that dbz characters are FTL as these scenes are not concrete. What if a different company animated dbz huh? Then the planets exploding would have been different. The lighting would have been different. There are too many factors that can effect the animation so the only thing that Seth should have used is the storytelling, not the animation. There is something called "animation style" for a reason. Animation is too maleable. Storytelling is not.
Let me explain it simpler for you. I am not talking about the story here. I am talking about tbe ANIMATION. Seth is using animation as evidence to prove his argument. But animation is too maleable to use it as evidence. While KOL used the manga, which is not animated and is not susceptible to maleable factors. So KOL has a much better source material, while Seth used a weak source material.

Toriyama: The DBZ universe is based off of our own universe.
KOL: In theory, sure, whatever. But it could be slightly different.
Seth: Well, all the relevant sources say its based off of our universe.
KOL: But hypothetically... I'm going with Dyspo.
Seth coulda easily posted the scan of Vegeta stating their speed increases along with their strength.
And the guy says their attacks are faster than light. DB characters dodge these attacks or atleast react to them, how would they not be light speed in comparison
Just because their speed increases doesn't mean their speed increases at the same rate as their strength, while I DO believe it does and you can prove it does with more scans, the Kaioken is FAR easier to use since it just straight up says "Speed and Strength are increased by x" against a skeptic like KOL this is more efficient.
The only thing that violates that rule is trunks(super saiyan grade 3) increases your power by 150% and speed decreases by 50%
Naruto dodged Haku in the beginning of Naruto and Sasuke outsped Haku by enhancing himself with chakra. See what makes your argument flawed.

What am I doing with my life watching a black otaku and a weeabo debating about DBZ power levels... what a time to be alive.
Basically Seth brings statements and feats to prove his point. King brings head cannon to debunk those points and doesn't actually have anything to back it up.

Specifically BECAUSE toriyama wasn't thinking "too hard" about the lay out of the world if anything gives us MORE of a reason to take his statements such as "based on our world" literally. He's not thinking that the DB world is as bizarrely different to ours physics wise. He's thinking of it as mapped as close to ours as possible, then with DB powers on top. So the calcs for planets and other general physics stuff should be consistent with our own real life physics.

I expected a slaughter the second I read the title and that's exactly what happened. KOL is used to Torkio which is a little problematic. I enjoy it, but the series also spoon feeds every detail to us, and that's what KOL is used to. KOL's problem has always been that he's not even remotely close to being as smart as he thinks he is.

Anime Is Real I’m a diehard KOL fan but I agree with you. That’s an issue I’ve noticed with him for the longest time. He can make great points, but once he believes in something hardcore, regardless of the facts or evidence stating otherwise, if there is even the slightest room for debate, he will debate you.
Well, its hard to believe literally anything in DB when it contradicts itself all the time.
Seth argued that the moon was in the roche limit of earth.... its not... you would have to divide the distance between the moon and the earth by 21 for the moon to reach its roche limit. The roche limit is not a set distance for all objects.Its calculated based on the density of a given object. If you destroy the moon in any way that causes fragmentation around the entire moon, as soon as those fragments seperate from each other the roche limit based on their distance from the earth would increase significantly because they are smaller and havr less of a resistance to the tidal forces of earths gravitational pull. Because their density.... aka the very thing that allows massive objects to resist the roche limit would decrease. They larger fragments would break apart into small piece that would be too small for the roche limit to effect them anymore. Eventually the fragments would form a ring around earth.
Another important fact. Roshi blowing up the moon would have killed everyone on earth within 20 minutes. So so much for Toriyamas brilliant understanding of science let alone Seth's jackassery that oh yeah, claims and feats in the anime match our world cause Toriyama says so.

KOL makes fantastic reviews/rants/discussions but when it comes to power scaling the ball is firmly in Seth's court. Awesome vid though, definitely was worth the watch.
Burter is stated to be light speed according to the freeza saga and later on in super, It's stated dyspo has surpassed light speed.
There's litterally nothing contradicted by having freeza saga characters at light speed.

In the manga though, wasn't there a moment where Piccolo is shocked that Raditz moved at lightspeed? I also saw a panel of Burter boasting that he was faster than light. My point is that I believe the characters reached the speed of light multiple times and that the characters' speeds are being constantly retconned.
