  • Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is estimated to affect one in every 270 people worldwide. But as the saying goes in the autism community: “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” Because the behavior, mannerisms, difficulties, and points of view of autistic people are wide indeed. But there are common traits - repetitive stimulation and difficulty with social connection that render ASD visible. These traits can feel isolating for parents, but understanding them as a means of communication no more or less valid than any other can help parents see their autistic children for the individuals they truly are.
